Avoidance by Triastase
2D Retro Shooter
"Where did all these geometric bodies come from?!" is the biggest question in Avoidance, a retro-ish game where you have to avoid and shoot these bad, bad shapes to get the highest score.
The twist: The higher your score (i.e. the more enemies you annihilated), the slower you and your fire rate get.

But how does it work?
- Avoid geometric bodies
- Shoot geometric bodies
- Get the highest score
- The higher the score, the slower the player and his fire rate
- WASD or arrow keys to move
- Mouse to aim
- left click to shoot
Software
- Unity3D for making the game
- Blender3D for modeling and UV mapping
- GarageBand for music
- sfxr for sound
Have fun! This is my second Ludum Dare, so I would really appreciate some feedback!

The music is cool (I was less convinced by the sound effects - my ear is getting used to the bfxr defaults settings :-)). Some solid obstacles would have been cool!
Also, you could have made the game also playable using the direction keys (some of us are left-handed).
We had a somewhat similar theme idea, based around health and damage balancing.:D
A not really innovative entry, but still a good one! Great work ;)
My highscore: 182
But game control and game feelings done pretty well and it was good time to play this game
At first I though the amount of enemies introduced a major slowdown, but it was all intentional! I'm not a fan of such artificial mechanics. If fire rate and movement speed go down with the amount of enemies on screen then my survival chances are limited much more by your design than my skills! I don't like that idea, feels very arbitrary.
I would prefer incrementally increasing enemy numbers and behaviours. Eventually I will lose, but it is up to my skill level only not to having my ability to fight slowly taken away!
The graphics are fine and the music is quite catchy in fact. Good job on those.

It would be great if there was some kind of weapon upgrades, or any sense of progression.
Also, sone kind of explosion when destroying the enemies would go long way in bringing satisfactiory and rewarding gameplay.
My take in LD40 was fairly similar in complexity, you can try it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/heist-of-kharon
