Apocalypse by Manafest

[raw]
made by Manafest for LD 39 (COMPO)

In this game you play as a warlock fighting the forces of good and trying to destroy the world with your ultimate spell. Running out of power can be a challenge as you must use your power to cast spells to kill your foes and defend yourself from killing blows.

This is my first LD entry and I have definitely learnt a lot from it! Drawing 1.png Drawing 3.png Drawing 2.png Drawing 4.png

It's quite challenging. I like it

There are some typos in the How to Play section: "destoryed" and "absoped"

The gameplay is very engaging, but I found the 'chain lightning' to be very broken. Other than that, though, this game is very fun!

**Overall game impression:** The semi turn based movement similar to that of Crypt of Necrodancer really impressed and surprised me, didn't expect to see movement like that. Enemies have a good path finding too. The movement and path finding probably took a lot of time. The spells work well and are pretty cool to use. I like the idea. The game idea is very cool and I expected more robots and machines when I saw the theme but the more games I play the more unique and cool ideas like this I see which I didn't expect and love. Very interesting and catchy game. Well done!
I really like the skill animations btw :D the lightning is my favorite

**Suggestions and comments on improvement:** Sound effects would be nice.

p.s. check out my game as well please.

Pretty impressive! If there was music the mood of the game could be better. I had this problem of not being able to see the money indicator which I guess is at the top of the screen. Could be a resolution problem.

i like that you included a how to play instruction within the game (only the second I have seen so far) so keep that up. nice idea but i agree with some previous comments that the difficulty spikes

Very nice idea and good graphics.

I found the gameplay to be pretty innovative, although I feel like the game is a bit frustrating to play because of one single reason: the enemies attacking diagonally.

The way your 'pathfinding' works they will always try to stay at diagonal range and attack immediately once you get into their attack radius. That means that at the beginning, when you're trying to Cone of Flame the guys, you'll often get hit and they keep moving in ways that makes it impossible to use your spell on them. Later this is not much of a problem, but it really turned me off at first, because I like to conserve as much energy as possible. And I was trying to not spam my strongest attacks.

Once you get the other spells the game is quite fun. But I think you should just be able to attack diagonally with that spell as well, to make the beginning better.

I also got a bug where I zapped myself and then stayed like that forever and randomly lost energy all the time. That was weird.

Overall very good entry though. Great job.

Yay! I destroyed the world! :-)
Great entry, espesially if this is your first LD!
Liked the different weapons (I think the lightning stroke had the best cost/effect ratio) and how you implemented the end of the game.

The game is really good. Yes, there are not that many levels, so the game stuck on the last one until I got to 250 energy, chain lightning is overpowered, sound effects would be nice, but I still had a lot of fun with it.

Fun idea and fun game! Seems like the best spell for efficiency was chain lightning, couldn't save up enough for the final spell without just spamming that one. Great idea though!
