IMPORTANT!!! In the WebGL version, clicking can cause your character to freeze up because it will select text outside the game. To avoid this, please HOLD your mouse buttons to attack instead of clicking.
HERE IS AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE GAME! Includes music and is easier to beat for those who want a more chill experience :) If you choose to play the UPDATED version, please either skip voting on the audio altogether or vote solely based off the SFX. The soundtrack was not in the original game so it is unfair to vote on it. This alternate version is only here so more people can enjoy it, regardless of skill level, and to show off the awesome soundtrack my friend made for this game :D

My first ever Ludum Dare entry! :D I wasn't even sure I was going to get this done in 72 hours, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought. I was able to take it easy on the second day :) The game takes less than 7 minutes to beat if you're fast enough.
How the theme applies: You are able to play through the game normally if you wish, but you will find that it may be very difficult. If you make certain sacrifices, the game becomes easier to beat. Do you want to do it the ethical way or the easy way?

Edit: before I wrote that the controls felt a bit floaty, after playing for a bit longer I take that back, they feel fine. :)
Ethan - In what way do you think the implementation of the theme could have been improved?
- Buy 1 damage upgrade from Jack and then eat him
- Eat Jezriel to gain Life steal ability
- Save mom until the last level - spend all money on potions and then eat her to gain +3 health.
Glad you liked the game! :D
Graphics are nice and sound effects too.
Good job.
And I'm not really sure if there is sacrificing somewhere
In terms of enemies some of them move so slowly that they honestly may as well be standing still, and they also generally feel like they have maybe too much health, it's not super satisfying to have to shoot them a dozen times to kill them. Also having them flash white or something when you hit them would make it feel better to shoot them.
It feels like maybe the player was purposely made under-powered to incentivize sacrificing, but it wasn't made clear what sacrificing people actually did for you, so I didn't do it at all on my first playthrough. And even once I did a run where I sacrificed everyone it still kinda felt like the enemies had a lot of health.
The sound was a little lackluster, there wasn't much of it, and the shooting/hit sound fx weren't bad but weren't very satisfying. Also if you can't put music in, even just a little ambient noise can go a long way.
The mechanics worked well though, and I didn't really have any trouble dodging around or shooting enemies, no real complaints there, though maybe aiming with the mouse makes slow/stationary enemies too easy to hit, since you can just keep your mouse on them while dodging around.
The Eat button looks almost greyed out, and unless you remember what you had before it's pretty hard to tell what the bonus is for it.
Maybe I've played too many shmups but the low firing rate and lack of impact makes the beginning a bit slow, and it takes a bit too long to build it up. Also the graphics were nice but I didn't get a feel for the characters hitbox, and generally prefer a smaller hitbox for some fun weaving in and out of bullets, but it might just be the shmup fan talking.
Very good (if derivative) graphics and mood, some background music would work wonders!
Good
- Goat was well implemented
Could be improved
- The movement felt floaty and sometimes the momentum makes it hard to dodge the bullets
- upgrades felt inconsequential
- did not see the need to eat loved ones
They kinda don't fit the isaac-esque aestetic.
I still beat the game tho (because its fun ^^)
