Play it: >>>> https://elingranath.itch.io/goatwrath <<<<

IMPORTANT!!! In the WebGL version, clicking can cause your character to freeze up because it will select text outside the game. To avoid this, please HOLD your mouse buttons to attack instead of clicking.

HERE IS AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE GAME! Includes music and is easier to beat for those who want a more chill experience :) If you choose to play the UPDATED version, please either skip voting on the audio altogether or vote solely based off the SFX. The soundtrack was not in the original game so it is unfair to vote on it. This alternate version is only here so more people can enjoy it, regardless of skill level, and to show off the awesome soundtrack my friend made for this game :D

My first ever Ludum Dare entry! :D I wasn't even sure I was going to get this done in 72 hours, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought. I was able to take it easy on the second day :) The game takes less than 7 minutes to beat if you're fast enough.

How the theme applies: You are able to play through the game normally if you wish, but you will find that it may be very difficult. If you make certain sacrifices, the game becomes easier to beat. Do you want to do it the ethical way or the easy way?

i liked the "binding of isaac" feel it had to it, and the graphics were great. the idea of sacrifice that made the character more evil was cool. could use some background music or audio

Nice! I sometimes got stuck in the walls but otherwise, looks good and feels good to play.

beautiful graphics, but there is a bug - you can go beyond the screen and uncomfortable that the bullets are too fast

Hi, @ternarycat - I have not noticed an error with the wall. Can you recall which level this happened on, or was it on all levels? Was it a specific part of the wall?

@fat-cat first level, i just ran near the walls a lot and often fell through them

@ternarycat That's odd! It doesn't seem to happen to me but it seems that one other person was having the same issue D: I tried intentionally running into the walls for 3 minutes but it just didn't happen for me.

Amazing use of the theme, I love how dark it is. The graphics are crisp and gameplay good. I really like how the NPCs react to you changing as well. One of my favorite games I've played this Ludum Dare so far.

Edit: before I wrote that the controls felt a bit floaty, after playing for a bit longer I take that back, they feel fine. :)

@ethan-losten @jakobthequizguy Haha your comments contradict eachother :P Thank you both, I appreciate the feedback!
Ethan - In what way do you think the implementation of the theme could have been improved?

Well done! It definitely feels like I'm playing a Binding of Isaac type of game! The only suggestion, the character seems a bit slow compared to how fast the bullets are... but some people like more difficulty!

Really good game with nice artwork. I instantly saw, how it was inspired by isaac, but I love Isaac. The game is really great and I got killed by satan :c but it was fun to play. I upgraded dmg and healed myself every round bcs dmg is important, but I also don't want to die. The only thing the game lacks are maybe a bigger variety of enemies and more soundeffects + music. But all in all it's a great game. I love it

Here's the best strategy for winning:
- Buy 1 damage upgrade from Jack and then eat him
- Eat Jezriel to gain Life steal ability
- Save mom until the last level - spend all money on potions and then eat her to gain +3 health.

Glad you liked the game! :D

Wow, definitely one of the best games I've seen so far this jam (especially as I have a soft spot for bullet hell rouge lites xD) It has great art, strategic choices on what to buy or to sacrifice one of your shops and overall a solid game with a solid game loop. I think one improvement would have been some music to go with the action. Overall great work.

Gameplay is really nice. The movement and shooting are good. I managed to reach the endboss quite easily two times but didn't manage to kill him until I read the tips from @fat-cat. Maybe a small hint on the sacrificing of your beloved ones and the benefits would have been good.

Graphics are nice and sound effects too.

Good job.

Hi, nice game, impressive content for so little time, and the balance was quite good! I feel it's a bit too close to the Binding of Isaac in terms of innovation, but the upgrades between levels were a nice twist.

I liked the style, projectiles, and simple identification of the dangerous enemies. I too ran into some wall issues on several levels, but I was sort of getting stuck on them. It was difficult to leave the wall when I touched them. Nice job overall!

Nice game, it reminds me about The Binding Of Isaac, but, as for me, enemies should be faster)
And I'm not really sure if there is sacrificing somewhere
🎤 Fat cat
04. Dec 2018 · 07:04 UTC
@erendelous The sacrifice is the "Eat" button for each character. Did you miss the button or do you think it was not a good way of applying the theme?

It was fun to play and the graphics are neat. I think a background music could improve the game. You could include your friends music and opt out of Audio avaliation for the compo if you wanted. Anyway, i like the gameplay, simple and smooth, easy to understand. Good job on taking easy on second day, i couldnt!

First of all I like the art, it looks nice and is cohesive!

In terms of enemies some of them move so slowly that they honestly may as well be standing still, and they also generally feel like they have maybe too much health, it's not super satisfying to have to shoot them a dozen times to kill them. Also having them flash white or something when you hit them would make it feel better to shoot them.

It feels like maybe the player was purposely made under-powered to incentivize sacrificing, but it wasn't made clear what sacrificing people actually did for you, so I didn't do it at all on my first playthrough. And even once I did a run where I sacrificed everyone it still kinda felt like the enemies had a lot of health.

The sound was a little lackluster, there wasn't much of it, and the shooting/hit sound fx weren't bad but weren't very satisfying. Also if you can't put music in, even just a little ambient noise can go a long way.

The mechanics worked well though, and I didn't really have any trouble dodging around or shooting enemies, no real complaints there, though maybe aiming with the mouse makes slow/stationary enemies too easy to hit, since you can just keep your mouse on them while dodging around.

Nice Isaac-like, you totally got the graphic style down as well! The controls were also tight and the bullet hell aspect was fun and well done! The UI might need a little work as I didn't realize which was the option to sacrifice your friends was, and the health bars obscured the enemies and action sometimes. Overall great job!

@giovannibarrottu Thank you for the long feedback! I'm actually going to upload a new version of the game in a few minutes which fixes all the complaints people have had about the game (enemies & boss will be easier, the sacrifice mechanic more clear, and will include the soundtrack that was made for it). I'm going to request that people do not update their ratings according to the new version of the game, it'll just be there if people want to try out the new version :D

Good movement and nice simple enemies and bullet patterns!

The Eat button looks almost greyed out, and unless you remember what you had before it's pretty hard to tell what the bonus is for it.

Maybe I've played too many shmups but the low firing rate and lack of impact makes the beginning a bit slow, and it takes a bit too long to build it up. Also the graphics were nice but I didn't get a feel for the characters hitbox, and generally prefer a smaller hitbox for some fun weaving in and out of bullets, but it might just be the shmup fan talking.

Very good (if derivative) graphics and mood, some background music would work wonders!

I am a simple man, I see Goat, I click. (i played the easy version)

Good
- Goat was well implemented

Could be improved
- The movement felt floaty and sometimes the momentum makes it hard to dodge the bullets
- upgrades felt inconsequential
- did not see the need to eat loved ones

neat game, but why do the shopkeepers look like "fursona OCs (#donotsteal)"?
They kinda don't fit the isaac-esque aestetic.

I still beat the game tho (because its fun ^^)
