The core of the game felt pretty solid. The combat had a good amount of flavor to it with the various mechanics and moves you can do but it lacked a bit of punch somehow. If your and the enemies attacks had more impact it would have made for a pretty entertaining mini-souls game :smile:. The mood and the grim graphical style were spot on :ok_hand:

Curious game, nice graphics. Not sure if shield was meant to protect from projectiles? Great work though.

The graphics and sound design were very good. Controls worked well and combat was quite nice.

I just didn't understand what I was supposed to do. I mean, I killed all the enemies and reached the white "door", then the level just restarted.

@antti-tiihonen - I had in my mind to add some flavor to the fights but somehow I forgot.
@jannick-larsen - Yep, it is literally my first jam event.
@arkiruthis - Yes, it's intended functionality.
@bradur - Unfortunately I lost a lot of time for experimenting with AI movement and had no time to expand game content, guess I will maybe release some expanded version in a Post Jam version of this game in the future.

This is impressive for a first GameJam experience 😮

During my first try I get killed by a enemy turret and I respawned with bug on controls. My character walked left in continous :/

But I tried it again and finish it couple of times. I like the "dark" ambiant style like DarkSouls for the sacrifice theme ^^
Nice arm fighting system. Great work !

The control of the night are great, But it's to dark, I can correctly see enemies in some place and so I hit the air the most of the time.

I like the aesthetic of this game, I think it's a very solid first entry. My biggest complaint is just how dark things are. I felt like I couldn't see what I was doing most of the time but I assume that was the point.

Nice graphics and a nice general atmosphere has been created in this game. It plays well, and I didnt feel overwhelmed by anything. Well done!

Love the premise of the game, some of the inputs struggled for me at times, but that could be my system. Otherwise a very enjoyable game!

liked the dark aesthetic you were going for. Gameplay is a little clunky. Good, enjoyable, submission overall :smile:

Really enjoyable. The only problem I had while playing is standing to close to enemies and having there projectile hit me while I had my shield up.

Excellent art style, very well fleshed out game. Feedback: I wanted it all to be tighter and move faster. As is, I didn't feel like there was much actual skill involved. Some audio improvements would be nice too :)

Really good game for the first time, graphics are is really good! Gameplay is simple. could be a little more challenging, time sacrifice is not needed yet you get meat a lot :) sound could be improved a little, otherwise cool game!

Nice game, controls were fairly intuitive and the mood was pretty good. Game difficulty seems OK and the encounters were rewarding.Too bad there as no music, but the sound effects were great!

Really nice game for the short amount of time, I liked the feeling and style. Reminded me of Dark Souls somewhat with the offerings and the dark atmosphere. I found a weird bug where sometimes the controls would get inverted but it's not a big deal.

I think you have a very solid core and style, the sound of the shield blocking projectiles was pretty satisfying too. I wish you would have explored the sacrifice mechanic a bit more, but considering the small map and dev time it's still a pretty good one.

This is crazy for your first jam, absolutely beautiful and love the mechanics (if only it lasted for longer). I especially love the top-down but 3d style, reminded me of Exanima. I'm sure you just didn't have time but if there were more levels that make more use of the sacrifice mechanic, that would be really awesome. Great game!

Nice game! It reminds me about Dark Souls and Hollow Knight, quite cool theme integration and good sound design, maybe there could be more levels, but for the compo it's enough:)

I really love the style of the characters and animations which also work great with the sounds. The feeling is just great! The ambient feels great but sometimes it is too dark/unreadable. In any case, I would love to see a game with that style.

Also, is there a reason for me to sacrifice anything at the altar since I can eat food to regain health?

Bottom line - wonderful entry, congratz!!

That was a pretty fun! I didn't find that i never took long enough to sacrifice more than the free (meat chunks?)in the beginning, so the sacrifice didn't real become a major part of the gameplay. However, the visual style, audio, and combat were all very enjoyable. It makes me wonder why there aren't more top-down melee dungeon crawlers that i know about :thinking: good job!
