Welcome Mystic Shepherd.

You must keep the herd alive, but in order to do this sacrifices must be made. The temple on the left make your sheep be more fertile. The temple on the right make grow more food. Your sheep need to eat food to survive. The herd will follow you, bring them to the temple to sacrifice them. (WASD or arrow key to move)

Don't run out of food or sheep.

note: wololo sound is my rendition of the Age of Empires classic The game is complete but possibly unbalanced. I will work on balance in the post jam version.

Thank you for playing!

Ah, a fellow AoE connoisseur, I see.

Overall, walking feels... really slow. I kind of get why, but it's not exactly fun to wait ages for the shepherd to actually get anywhere.

And the fertility rate and food go down really fast. I don't know. I just seem to have fewer sheep after each round trip.

A cool concept.

The walking is really slow, which makes the gameplay a bit frustrating. I did like the wololo sound lol. As the earlier commenter said, there doesn't seem to be a great way to win. No matter what I do, the numbers seem to go down faster than I can possibly fix them.

Clever! Agreed about the walking speed, and one or two other kinds of sacrifice locations might be good to make the balancing act trickier, but I think the concept is solid. Nice work.

I like the idea behind it, and your wololo! I did find the sheep fertility rate was a bit aggressive, since I'd hope that killing 3 sheep would give a boost for more than a few seconds. I'd suggest rebalancing so that the player almost always dies because of eating all the food, but producing more sheep is easier, since having sheep to kill is the main game.

Nice game but you walk very slow and the sheeps stopped to follow me after a while.

Good concept, I agree with others that double-speed would be nice. Sound made me laugh :) My sheep hated me I think, kept running away, lol.

The.... walking... is... so... slow...
Overall an awesome, well-executed concept, next to improving the walk speed, I dislike your audio, although funny, its not so much of a pleasant sound. You could've used an sound of a knife scraping another metal surface with some hefty reverb, creating a kind of mystic sound. I'm not much of a sound engineer but I think that'd work.

Overall good job!

Did anyone say the shepherd was too slow?

Actually, I don't think that's the problem. Maybe moving with the keyboard is not the best mechanics for a balance game like this... ?

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Yes the game need balance.

I don't think that the shepherd is to slow: actually the sheep need to be a little faster than the shepherd because with the herd mechanic that I have implemented a lot more sheep would trail behind.

Said that maybe time could be compressed, or the distance between the temples shortened.

I found out that balance in this sort of game is not a easy task as i through :) and in this system there are only two variables to balance. If I tweak a number up i spiral up to over 1000 sheep, and the game freeze (I have implemented an hard cap on the number of sheep and food, but i need to implement a shortcut in the way that the sheep search for food).

Anyway for reference: above 25 is a good result.

Lovely game, I love the little sheep AI and the nice concept for the game, you need to balance it a bit more but other than that, well done!!!!

What is it with sheep this jam. This is the second game i've encountered that prominently features sheep.
Very interesting mechanic and implementation of the theme. One or two additional variables might have made it easier to balance.
I had fun :)
Good Job

Nice idea and funny graphics! Probably I understand why shepherd goes slowly, but it feels boring after a while. I would suggest to add some mechanics on catching far distant sheep. So even if I go from temple to temple, I would need to pass specific points to make sure my herd is grouped together.

@zetorama thank you: the mechanic is already in place, but probably is not so evident. Sheep have 3 states: following the shepherd, searching for food, or group in the herd. If you pass close (or trough) the herd you catch some of the sheep, and if you lead them trough food they will stay close.

It probably need a lot of balancing on the timing for the sheep to eat and the overall speed of the game

Cool idea with nice ambience.

I'd love to see a third temple coupled with faster movement so the player has to balance more variables. The second half of my top run (31) consisted of just me standing there, waiting for my remaining sheep to die.

Cute herding game. I liked the way the sheep move around. Is there an end state or does the game go on forever as long as you still have sheep?

@strega thank you. No end state: you continue to play until you have sheeps, or until the game crash because there is to much food for the pathfinding to handle :D I really should implement a shortcut in the pathfinding...
