Space(bar)Invaders by Carraka

[raw]
made by Carraka for LD 42 (JAM)

As a child, your dream was to work for a publishing house, lending your critical eye to Nobel-winning authors. Instead, you've ended up at Planetary Press, where you copyedit for the most hackneyed (yet somehow still best-selling) authors on the market.

Worse, you've been seeing these weird glitches on your computer lately. And they're targeting the spaces in your manuscript.

Stop the glitches and delete their errors before you run out of spaces!

Recommended play in fullscreen.

Instructions

EASY: Click on glitches and errors to remove them.

MEDIUM: Click on glitches to destroy them. Click on an error and type the incorrect letter to remove it.

HARD: Murder those glitches with clicks. Eviscerate those errors by typing the incorrect letters. Mistakes lower your score!

A cute and simple yet rather difficult game- I kept trying to read the story about the knight and his love but the darned bugs kept getting in the way!

Great job on making this, I really liked it.

@mikomikisomi Once you've unlocked a level, you should be able to go back and read it in the level selection menu at your leisure. Thanks for the comment!

I really enjoyed this one. It's an unexpected but very clever take on the theme. Taking mundane real life work and turning it into frantic micro-managing situations in games is the type of stress I love. Having to leave the home position with my left hand to fix certain errors definitely made it challenging. As a side note, I'd love to hear the transcript of the story turned into some overly serious radio drama/audio book reading.

Kudos to everyone involved!

Funny game with a good basic mechanic and enough variation to last a while

Nice take on the theme and good build up. I was able to see what I needed to do right away. Very challenging. It would be nice if I could keep my fingers on home row. Not sure what you could then do to bash glitches?? Hmm. Great art! Nicely done!!

Fun game! I think the main problem is that the difficulty is a little too high. I was using a graphics tablet, and even then I was just barely squeaking by on the later levels. The title and ending screen art were very good, as was the menu music.

`what the heck did i just read though ._.`

What a unique take on the theme! It was fun, but for me the difficulty curve was a bit too steep.

Very nice take on the theme. the concept is inherently humorous, I really enjoyed it.
it's fun and the graphics are really cool :)

on the bad side it's either too challenging or it's just because I'm playing using a touchpad but I hardly ever had the time to clear any page. also at some point (always on the same page : "Lancelet looked... " clicking didn't clear the spaces but rather made appear a little black blinking cursor.
there is also some long waiting at the end of each level.

but overall it's a great entry! :)

I really enjoyed your game. Good idea and nice graphics! But it's a bit repetitive. So, maybe you can add some features. The game could become awesome! ^^

The combinaison of eliminating glitches + correcting typos is a great idea ! Graphics and music are nice, I liked your game overall. The game becomes difficult when you play with a pad (the purple glitch is so fast !). Also when i launched the latest version, I couldn't correct the typos, they were just highlighted in black.

I didn't 'get' the connection with the theme until I sat down to score it. Duh. But really the 'space' connection is funny and clever haha.

Nice touch with the kitties at the end of each level, I worked really hard to keep them happy! I like the tutorial mode and the second mode more, because as a non native speaker the third mode has an added difficulty.

Good job!

Very Addictive! This game is so fun, I played it for a long time until I reached a level where I failed to pass :) The gameplay although repetitive is very suitable for semi endless games, it has potential. It will just need some upgrade system to keep things interesting for a long time. Great work :)

@mao @roman-petrov the most common critique we've received is that the game is a bit too hard, so we've gone and updated the difficulty curve a bit. Now there are fewer glitches but higher clear percentages, as well as a few different styles of levels. Also, @gudval @axoona, in addition to the tutorial, the game now has a "post-it" note on the side of the monitor with instructions after the difficulty level change. All updates are in the "Now with more cats edition"

Thank you everyone for your great feedback, and thank you for playing our game.

Really enjoyed this one! The idea is pretty unique, the game itself looks polished. Despite being quite difficult, it was fun!

This is a great take on the theme! Loved the art style. Everything is very clean and stylish. The music is good (title song is amazing although much louder than in game music) and the mechanics are solid. I enjoyed the difficulty ramp up and the QA ratings after the level are funny. Great job on this!
