I was unable to hit the boss even once :( I'm bad at "hitting on girls"
The artworks are stellar, although the pixel art and fonts look kinda weird.
And the music is great too!
I'm probably gonna spend a lot of time in this game at least until I beat it...
I had a hard time understanding what to do, playing with the arrows and at times pushing space and running out of it. I never got more than her half life and loose. I guess its too difficult for me. Anyway good little game.
It ended up being so frustrating that me and my friend got on the same keyboard to finally the 2nd boss !
But damn was it satisfying when we did so !
Appart from that everything is more or less top notch, from the graphics to the audio, gratz !
Amazing entry, one of the very best I've seen so far! Congrats!
@scott-steffes @corbak yeah we didnt have enough time to implement that instructions part. Everyone is exhausted with drawing and testing and coding stuff. Fixing bug is a real pain in the butt too. We will add the instructions in the description on this page later.
@jsmcag thank you for your compliment. I think it will get easier when you spend a little more time into it.
Getting the same card after each battle was a pain, but whatever. Was still good to play through.
The art and music are superb, plus I had the same idea about "space" meaning the button, so I like the take on theme a lot (didn't take that concept in the end though). :P I like rhythm games overall and enjoyed playing yours as well. Narrative was... intriguing as well.
Really well done!
We check again as your report. Our audio guy learns from the beat of Chronos trigger, that true. But from the start, we thought that not again the rules if we use it with our melody.
After rechecking Ld's rule we realize that acceptable music only used samples and not like this.
So we decide to opt out of audio. Although all others audio are fine. but Rule is ruled so we need to follow.
At least we have learned from this mistake.
Really thanks for your report. Hope that this doesn't make you annoy with our entry.
I think the execution is lacking : the inputs don't match the beat, the reverse arrow keys is a TERRIBLE idea, and the QWER keys is not as bad but it's bad anyway.
You should focus on a solid 4 arrow keys control scheme, with some solid tracks (like @coda-highland, it is NOT okay to rip Chrono Trigger music, especially for a rythm game).
The combo mechanic is fun and it's satisfying to land a devastating blow, but it gives the game a "all or nothing" feel that's not really enjoyable for a music game. Usually music games let you enjoy the track even if you mess up a bit. Here you HAVE to master the combo mechanic to win, there is no learning curve, the difficulty is extremely high as soon as you start (and I know it's a jam game and these things need time to adjust). Maybe add a super meter that charges with the successful inputs and keep the combo meter as a way to multiply damages ? I don't know but going back to 0 potential damage each time you miss ONE note is way too punishing.
Otherwise, the art looks fine (the logo is extremely good, even it it lacks an indication that it is a rythm game, not just a versus game). The charadesigns are generic, I guess it's ok for an ecchi game but I'd love to see some diversity in those games.
I don't think the game fits in the theme very well. I like the idea of "running out of one action done with the space bar" but there are so many mechanics around it that it hardly qualifies as a central theme.
I'd love to see a postjam version of the game if by chance you consider working on one! :)
Really thanks for your feedback. Right to important points.
The idea about the combo meter is huge. Damage output is already multiplied with space combo (great or perfect).
And the problem with going back to 0 potential when you miss 1 note is really over punishing. I think it should be 25% to 50% power points is fine.
And we sill consider about post-jam version
@nam-nguyen
Happy to know you like our entry. The idea about spacebar come first but we made it too complicated. And share with you a fact that most of members can't even finish 2 bosses with final version.
EDIT: Never mind, the combo meter just disappears when you get attacked, but it's still counting. That tripped me up.
Also, woulda been nice if the timing was on-beat. But hey, it was still pretty fun overall! Characters were cute :)
Slap on a story, take the combat mechanic, mix some good songs and your are good to go. Maybe as mobile game? I don't know.
Anyways good job. Overall 4.5/5 The gameplay could take a little more tweaking (way to difficult right now ^^)
The balance was off though, way too hard, as weird as it might seem, playing the same notes on retry could have helped a lot. difficulty 1 is that the note pattern and rhythm don't feel right. sometimes it seems random, other it seems to follow the beat(That could still happen randomly, but I assume it wasnt). difficulty 2 is the space. took me a while to realize I had to time it too.(comic shows it, but it wasnt clear on my first go)
The space requires to unfocus from the main bar, really should have merged them somehow, say a "rythm line/flash" with the space tempo.
>incidentally writing the above made me realize that *you CAN* miss notes (which tends to happen when you want to hit the space),doing it willingly helped me perform better, but its super counter-intuitive. rhythm game & missing notes is :/
Opposite notes are also super mean.
Might have seemed harsh but this really is a great game & idea, full of potential, just unfortunate it is so hard.
Looked great and lets be real, you used The most unique interpretation of the theme (Bit, forced when you spell it out, but I had thought about it myself, just no super cool implementation as you did)
Great job!
