BIGHEAD by Paulo Brunassi

[raw]
made by Paulo Brunassi for LD 40 (JAM)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dcDp_RTEZU

Bighead is a small endless runner where you should pick as many coins as you can, and for every 100 coins picked the speed raises.

Keys: Space: Jump

Down Arrow: Slide

I'm glad I was able to finish the game for the Jam, this was my second LD participation, I had more in mind for the game, but due to crunch in another project last week I was too tired. But I had to participate Ludum Dare 40! I hope you enjoy the game. 4.png

crazy main character, "head slide" on floor is hilarious!!! Nice entry, good job!

Even though the idea isn't the most original one, it still was fun to play. What I liked the most was the positive vibe created by nice graphics and cool music :) And as Jungle says, the head slide part is kickass :)

Thank you guys for the kind words. I was very tired on the monday so I couldn't go further on development and the game ended up too simple. But I think I did an "OK" job.

Great job, I liked the music choice and the increasing difficulty while collecting the coins. Put a smile on my face :D

Hehe, simple but kinda fun. I feel like the gameplay could have been tweaked a lot more though, especially since you can't control the height or duration of your jump? That alone would have added a lot more depth to your game. I also felt like there were many groups of coins that were just impossible (or realistically impossible) to collect...

The music and graphics are good and the gameplay works, for the most part. I'd say there are two problems:
- When you hit a platform and are forced through it, you sometimes unavoidably take more damage (i.e. when you go through a platform at the bottom of the screen and then into a gap). This seems a bit unfair.
- I'm pretty sure the game will sometimes generate terrain that unavoidably will take off a heart -- namely, when the section with a wider top platform and thinner low platform is followed by one with a particular slide at the beginning. If you jump, you hit the next platform, and if you don't jump, you also hit the next platform.

A fun little game! The difficulty progression and controls were well balanced. I thought maybe it could be a bit more forgiving when you just clip the top of a platform, but maybe requiring precise jumps it all part of the fun. Good music and sound as well. Nice work!

This was cute! I liked the slide animation and the music in particular. Great submission :)

Good effort and a funny head slide ^^

How about adding an extended jump or double jump to reach the higher platforms?

Cool idea, and nice music, I wish there was some more platforms patterns as the game gets quite hard fast and many parts of the level are unreachable ; about graphics, i would suggest to use the same sprite scale in order to keep each "pixel" the same size. About gameplay, the down-slide could be restricted in time, and a more accurate jump (+doublejump ?) could allow the player to reach more places. Good job anyway :) I've reached almost 500 coins, then ended stuck in the lowest tiles and ragequited :p Cheers !

I think there is something off with the jump: possibly is a little lower then expected to reach the platform? Other then that good entry.

An incredibly frustrating, but fun game. I wish the jumping was a bit more forgiving, I only got to more than 100 coins twice!

Played and rated :) The jumps are really unforgiving man! Also is it me or are some jumps not registered? But thanks for the small file size and the nice tune in the background :)

Got to about 400 coins once I figured out that there was a Slide option... Pretty fun - I think the game could use a bit of work in the procedural generation to prove if something is actually solvable or not. Right now, there are coins that are unreachable, and jumps that are impossible - there's gotta be some way to generate hard jumps that are still doable if timed correctly.

But that said, I had a lot of fun playing it

Hahaha the large heard / running style reminds me of the Giants in Attack on Titan ^^

Nice, with some polishments you could turn it into a fun mobile game! Good job

Fun game, I played it a couple of times. Liked the small details, like the short rotation on the running animation.

Interesting game. But it seems like that I can walk under the ground sometimes.XD

Simple but fun game. I love the animations of the player, very cool.

Suggestion: control the jump height with the duration of the spacebar press (although this will probably decrease the game difficulty, I don't know if you want that)

I found a little bug in where I fell through a hole but didn't touch any platform, so I just kept running below all platforms and I wouldn't lose.

Congratulations on making this game!

We already have the needed votes, but we’d love if you tried our game :)

The character art is cute. Could use some tuning. Above all, felt like the jump was way too floaty and not fast/heavy enough. It makes the game feel less exciting and fun to play.

Some more variation would be good.
