DRAIN by LERPish

[raw]
made by LERPish for LD 39 (JAM)

This is actually our first ludum dare project it has a lot of problems but we made our best. So the game works like this. You and your enemies have 2 bars an health bar (the red one) and the power bar (the yellow one) everything you do takes out power and your enemies also loose power, when you kill an enemy he will give you the same power he had when he died, some enemies drop a health pack, to attack you should mantaign pressed the left mouse button and you can also slow down time by clicking in the right mouse button although that feature is only usefull if you wanna walk faster than the enemies this also takes a lot of energy. Any way we hope you like the game -Rui (LERPish) -Ben (Toast Hatter)

Take up the role of a robot ninja, of course, who keeps himself alive by killing and taking the energy of other robots! Battle it out in two exciting modes! - Survival – How long can you last, battle many different enemies and try to stay alive, watch out for rare and hard to find enemies too. - Story Mode – Collect the right amount of energy to survive, and watch out for tough boss fights!!

The cutscenes were freakin awesome, but I really couldn't get past them. The controls were a little hard to use, but otherwise I liked the graphics! I r8 7/8. :3

Fun game! Really liked the character design, the shader work was really good.

I would have liked to be able to move while attacking though!

Great job on the animation and design! The game feels solid once you understand what the 2 bars of the enemies are for, on a first look I didn't think that they also have a battery level... makes sense.
Must be careful with the pulls I ended up pulling the whole map twice and it didn't end well ._.
Great entry!

Really love the music in this entry, graphics in general are quite nice, Once you get the hang of it it's pretty playable and not really too easy or too hard.

The boss appearing when the meter fills up is a little on the abrupt side, and the boss battle doesn't seem very meaningful as it is, maybe the boss could spawn in while the other robots are still there? Or possibly there should be some other mechanic for battling a boss.

Because of the lack of options the game didn't feel challenging. All I had to do was hold the left mouse button. The slow-down-time mechanic didn't help either. That said, the game looks really solid! Good job on that!

Goob work, I feel like it could be funnier with moving left and right, but nice game overall :D tho this sword effect is really cool

A really nice looking game, really liked the graphics and sound. Controls were fun and fluid, was unable to move left/right though, except by turning with the mouse. Combat was a bit hard to judge what was going on sometimes when fighting. With some tweaking and more depth on the combat this could turn into something really good!

Downloaded on Game Jolt. Your game is a cool way to chill out after work. I love the graphics and the light trail on the hero blade. The time mechanic is a cool feature and really convenient when you are in the back of an enemy to finish him quickly and clean... like a cat ninja. In my opinion the waves are growing to fast.

Awesome graphics and animations ! The cutscene at the beginning make me think about thoses "old but gold" flashgames that are cool but are like "yeah, look how cool I am !! 8] ". It was really nice and fun ! The gameplay itself is a bit strange, I don't know I don't really get it, I don't find the slow time power really useful and it's easier and less power consuming to just stay on left click (but it's faster to kill by clicking a lot, but really too power consuming). Anyway, it's still a pretty solid entry imo, I've loved the atmosphere !

Slow motion effects were really fun to use. But i have one complaint its just the game is a bit to easy you can just hold left click and finish the whole game, plus never felt like i was loosing energy i just regained it too fast. Also the lights when you use slow motion are great.

The slow motion is great but it does need a little bit of balancing. I found it to easy this way. Graphics are great. Love the after effects.

Great job with all that you managed to cram into this in the span of the jam! All of the enemy varieties were really great! Definitely a challenging game, but a lot of fun too.

That slow motion is pretty sick. I love the trail your sword leaves and the wide range of enemies to fight. I would say that if there was more of a story to it, that got me motivated to kill these robot guys, I'd feel it'd be a lot more complete, but that's just me. Other than that, zipping around and cutting enemies feels good!

This has a very good use of lighting effects (swords and pickups) and overall looks really nice. The gameplay is pretty visceral which is a huge point in its favour. I did find the hit detection a little off but still pretty good. The amount of work in this game though is fantastic. Multiple levels and enemy types + bosses. All in all really good game.

Camera could use work, sometimes it got stuck behind a tree, it was hard to good view of the battlefield. I think camera higher up could work better. Maybe experiment with the different fight modes. Now you kind of lock into fighting mode and cant move, perhaps a combination of moving with a single button attack would make the game a bit more dynamic. overall I enjoyed checking it out, nice job

Nice game with a good concept and a cool main character, however some flaws

**Positive stuff :**
- The graphics, i digged the main character's design, and the little cutscenes were a cool touch, i also liked the katana trail effects :)
- The music was nice
- The choice of a story mode and a survival mode with multiple maps
- The main gameplay is fun

**Negative stuff :**
- The controls need a bit more work i.m.o
- A bit heavy on the effects, while the trails looked nice, i personally thought the blur was sometimes a bit much
- Has a few glitches here and there, when dezooming the camera with the mousewheel the camera went insane when i scrolled a bit too far, and when testing survival mode i had an enemy stuck into a wall on the castle map

Honestly though, for a first LD it's a pretty good game with a solid concept, just needs a bit of added polish

Good job guys :)

Oh and i'll give you a silly award : You get the "Can't go wrong with ninja cats" award :p

I liked the feel of this game! Attacking was very satisfying and the audio felt like a good match for this game. The main character and enemies are all super cool looking and I was enjoying demolishing them. Walking around was the trickiest part, but once I got used to that it was fine.

This is one of the more complete games I got to see so far. It feels like a genuine game, not like a thing you made in 72 hours. The graphics are phenomenal, and the game is good fun. Controls are tight, but they can use some work - looking up and down with the mouse can mean the world. There is a decent amount of content here, and the fighting is fun. Overall, I had a great time playing this game :)

The combat could have more thought put into it, i stayed alive just standing and spamming attacks, i really like the graphics, and the hand drawn like cutscene.

Good job! Needs strafing though!!! And the free cam was pretty much useless for me. Also some more variation could help, got pretty repetitive pretty quick...

Nice game, I liked the graphics! I think it would have felt a bit better to play if you could rotate the camera in the other direction, and maybe even added strafing, but otherwise, cool submission.

Liked the art style very much.

The combat felt a bit clumsy. It was missing quite a lot of audio/effect feedback on stuff like player getting hit, missing a swing etc. The combat was pretty much just backpedaling and trying to swing at enemies and hoping that they wouldn't hit you back. At least I couldn't come up with any better strategies. Did not find any use for the slow mechanic really. And I feel like there were quite a lot of invisible walls and/or small bumps on the ground which made me get stuck, and since there is no strafing and the turning is slow, I always ended up dead.

I had few instances where the player character animations glitched out and stopped showing the actual swing animation (only the trail effect).

The control(l)s were straight up lying. A/D and left/right did nothing. You turned with mouse and the keys should have been strafing anyway. Accidentally pressed C at some point which seemed to switch between camera modes but the other option was pretty much unusable. I also think that the camera should be raised a bit to let the player have a better view of whats in front of them.

Good job on your first LD! Hope to see more from you guys next time...

Cool action-wave-based-cyber-cat-ninja-brawler. The only thing that were missing was the ability to strafe and to attack while moving. Otherwise outstanding game.

I think I was cheating. I just got close enough to attract them, bundle them up, and whamo! Slash, hack, cut, and they all when poof. :) Not sure when and how the slowing the time was supposed to come in except when I wanted to make the slashing look sweet. ;)

The startup cutscene looks great, but the battle mechanisms are a little dull. I tried to slowtime with right-click but nothing happened?

I hope the left/right can make the character strafe left/right, if the mouse is used to rotate the cam, then it felt kinda weird that the left/right cannot strafe.

Hey, be sure to link your post-event updated versions separately. You might get disqualified, which would be sad for all the good ratings you already earned. See https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/false-game/compojam-done-play-and-rate-games

Looks like your Linux version (in the 1.1 zip file) is only 32bit. From unity you want to do the Universal export so there is both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions (You could probably get a way with just the 64 bit version, but there might be someone still using a 32 bit os if they were happy with only ~3MB of ram and other limitations that come with it).

Overall cool game ! I love the music and the intro cutscene, but I would love to see all the game with the 2D art style. The game is too easy I think, or it is too buggy with ennemies, I do not manage to understand who is hitting me. Cool game though :)

cute little game! I enjoyed the 3d characters and swinging my sword around! Makes me wish there were some other ways to attack groups of enemies without just feverishly slashing at them.

I couldn't tell what right-click was doing until I checked the controls screen - I wonder if there is some way to highlight the slowing of time.

Great little game, awesome graphics, animations and cutscenes. While this is a type of game I generally like the gameplay was a bit easy and the only really challenge was the final boss, which unfortunately died on the first try. I feel the right-click should've been some other movement-ability; something that would enable you to kill a big group of enemies, perhaps dashing through them or whatnot. That'd be satisfying, since the game is about killing enemies.

We streamed your game with Danae plays on Twitch. :) Here's a link:

[Danae streams Ludum Dare 39: Day 3, part 1: DRAIN](https://youtu.be/LN1svjCl2z0?t=19m55s)

The game looked pretty, and I took the time to beat it. I wish there was more to the gameplay, though – I mostly stood in front of the enemies and held down the mouse button. The movement without strafing was kind of weird, but it wasn't necessarily bad. It could probably be used creatively when adding *something* (parrying? more strategic usage of power?) to the gameplay!

Good job overall!

Thanks for streaming my game also :)

The controls for the movement are difficult to use. Nice graphics and music :) The physics need a little bit more love. But all in all good job!
