Battery Run by JustMars

[raw]

Battery Run is a 2.5D side-scrolling game (made with Unity) where your goal is to run and jump till the end, before your battery runs out.

This is my first Ludum Dare game. I had quite a limited time making it, so lots of gameplay ideas had to be cut. At the end, I had only about 10 minutes to implement the audio, so game has only one sound effect :(

But I still had a fun time making it, and I am hopefully able participate in the upcoming Ludum Dares.

List of fixes for Battery Run Version 1.0.1:

-Adjusted some sprite and text box sizes

-Slightly reduced the battery drain speed

-Expanded the area of the finish trigger

Nice game. I feel the energy drop down fast.

While I liked the idea of the phone's battery running out it did not quite make sense that doing more things on the phone itself will add some charge.

Well done on your first entry! I liked the surprising perspective shift in-game, and the concept for the theme was well done. I always struggle with getting sound effects in too - I try to prioritise doing them a little earlier nowadays as a result.

I hope youtake part in LD40!

I loved the phone idea, even though how collecting yellow bubbles recharges my phone is beyond me. I also like the turn at the half point. Something to consider in future games: If your main interaction is keyboard, let the player reset and start the game after failing with only the keyboard, too. If you fail a couple of times, having to reach for your mouse each time can be an unattended punishment.

Graphics didn't impress me much at first. But you had some great effects going with the rotation of the phone and the turning of the camera while on the course. That was really neat!

It's a hard game right now, so I'm not sure where the finish line is. If the game were to expand, definitely consider tweaking the battery rate a bit.

I'll give you this, I restarted and played several times. You've got a good idea going. Have some fun with it post-Ludum-Dare!

I love the simplicity, i'd wish if it was a bit longer. But nonetheless, as a fellow first-time Ludum Dare participant, I like your game! :) The mechanic of switching the 3D perspective is a nice touch to make the game much more interesting.

Audio is very tough, I neglected it as well in my game and only left sound effects for it.

My only tip for you is to try to split more your time in advance. Tell yourself in advance that you want to dedicate X amount of hours for sounds only and make lists of things you need, it helps keeping you on track with what you need to do :)

Great Job!!

Great job on finishing your first LD jam, can't wait to see what you do next time! things I would address: graphics would be the biggest factor for you right now, the sound and physics seem to be there. and probably adding a death/restart trigger below the level so you dont just fall through and have to wait to die if you get hit by a block
