The Feast by Lossypi
You play as a hellish abomination trying to feast on knights and mages in the name of hell. For every blast you sacrifice bit of health. The catch is, one blast costs more than one dead body can replenish. So try to play strategically!
Tips: - You have to kill multiple enemies with one shot - You can still kill mages through shields, but the blast would be destroyed. Try to kill them from top or bottom - You are invincible during dash. That said, don't try to ram enemies. - Once per game you can make a "Last Stand" shot at 0 health

Gameplay wise, the piercing mechanic took a few shots to figure out, but it ended up being self-explanatory enough that I figured it out on my own.
However, it seems enemies can just spawn anywhere, and multiple times I had one spawn right in front of me, before I could even react to it. Random spawns aren't entirely evil, but giving the player a "safe zone" goes a long way in reducing frustration.
If you find that too easy, add a telegraph to where the enemies will spawn, giving players more time to react before the enemy appears and becomes dangerous.
I'd also consider adding a slow health regen, and simply preventing the player from attacking when it would be fatal. This gives players an "out" to having health lower than the sacrifice level, without just being doomed.
Overall great entry! I'd love to see a post-compo version!
Am I the highscorer now? :P The game is very fun and nice to play, the one thing I think there is lack of is more levels and enemies! Also the random spawn point of the knights/wizards can sometimes be very annoing, but that's jam and that's normal there ;D Good job guys!
It was very satisfying when it clicked that you have to kill multiple with a single shot to sustain yourself
The soundtrack is amazing as well!
Just 2 things: Enemies spawning right in front of you without being able to react is frustrating and personally I think that killing enemies could replenish a bit more.
The gameplay itself is fun and feels like it could be expanded upon very nicely.
For maximum pixelyness remember to put filter mode to point in the import settings of your sprites ;) Unfortunately they got blurred quite a bit but everything still looks super nice
Enemy spawning is the main thing I'm trying to figure out right now. The game has a simple algorithm to protect player from enemies spawning near, but because of the movement speed it doesn't work that well.
Also, idea to block the blast at 0 hp is great, will implement!
@finnhax Thank you, did just that!
action packed, great music and good concept! Thanks for this entry I really enjoyed it.
One small change I would make: You should be unable to fire your suicide bullet.
Because now it's hard to judge if I have enough juice left to shoot or not.
Also people want to see their score and post screenshots of it on twitter so next time think about us competition animals!
Thank you all for this amazing feedback!
I've fixed (almost) all bags you've encountered.
In this version:
1. Collisions work much better
2. Enemy shouldn't spawn right next to you
3. Added somewhat automatically raised difficulty
4. Added "Last Shot" notice when you have health enough for only, well, one shot
5. Added "Last Stand" mechanic. Once per game you can make a shot at 0 health to get you out of the most disastrous situations
6. Changed Game Over scene so you're able to see your score
