You Wanna Pizza Me? by Elowan

[raw]
made by Elowan for LD 42 (JAM)

In the year 2042, people only eat pizza. Today, everyone orders pizza from a general hotline, and companies compete to deliver first. You are Cheezus, a pizza spy who must stop your opponents, steal their deliveries, and collect their tips! Deliver pizzas to houses to increase your score.

There’s only the little matter of all the bodies piling up… Of course, you would never step on corpses — how rude! — but really, do they have to take up this much space on the street?

Try to deliver as many pizzas as you can without getting caught by your rivals!

You Wanna Pizza Me? is a fast-paced action game made for Ludum Dare 42: "Running out of space." The original soundtrack is located here. https://soundcloud.com/roy-berardo-official/sets/you-want-a-pizza-me-ost

This is punishingly hard: there's nowhere to hide, and you die in one hit! I think the most I got to was 11 pizzas; I probably would have kept playing for longer if the restarts weren't so frequent.

Otherwise, good job! I really liked the music, and the name is fantastic.

Nice work! Enjoyed the music especially - very fitting. Gameplay was solid - I had one hiccup where I ran off the screen and couldn't figure out how to get back on. Art did a nice job in assisting the gameplay.

Really nice! The music especially when you die, oh boy haha. There's a bug when you run out of the screen you can't go back but overall pretty funny game.

I thought the game was pretty fun. I only managed to make it up to 17 pizzas.

Great execution of a simple concept, although a little more polish would significantly better the game. On the other hand though, the controls are rock-solid, the music is top-notch, and the action is readable. Better feedback to help with the collision with the ennemies would help a lot, as death sometimes felt a little random.

You can go back in the screen from the left side, so you have to do a biiiig circle to get here.

23 pizzas here. It is super dynamic so you click the Restart button a lot of time before getting bored. Good job here.

This game is quite interesting! However, there's no scoreboard on the death screen, and sometimes I may wonder how many pizzas I delivered.

Nice execution of a simple game. The music is very good and fit with the mood very well and i like the dialoge that come from the house.

Really cute and I like the fast-paced speed of the game

What a fun and addictive game! I'm not very good at it though.. The music is REALLY good, sets the mood nicely - it reminds me vaguely of music from Ratatouille (especially the Disney ride). Music gets a 5 from me. Graphics are crisp and nice to look at!

The sound could have done with better balancing, some are too loud compared to the bgm but not a huge deal. Fun idea for the theme and love the whole pizza domination thing going on

This is an interesting take on the theme! It's hard (I managed to get 20 pizzas) but fun to play. The music is great, graphics are pleasant, and the game is funny.
Since the point is to attack the enemies without being seen I think they should only be concerned with delivering pizzas rather than coming after the player. I also noticed the enemies seem to die when they hit the fence to the left of the blue house. I had fun playing!

Cool music, unfortunately the only thing I can rate for now (can only play web games).

I probably restarted 15 times... it's addicting. Some of the hitboxes are a bit wonky though, example, trying to come in from an angle and delay enough to get on the side, still seems to register as up - causing death.

It did take me 2 games to realize I was supposed to take the pizzas to the house.

Great game and music though!

The game is fun, loved the soundtrack! The game gets tougher after a short while, having corpses of all the delivery man hanging around. I think it would be a nice touch if enemies had to deal with that too. Some kind of indicator as for how far they see would be helpful as well.

The mood is fun and the gameplay addictive, but in some situations the boxe where ennemies see you is not totally clear. I had a lot of fun anyway good job !

Sooo funny. I loved the atmosphere. Now for the gameplay, I think the game ends too quickly (impossible to move between the sorpses after 2 minutes). And I never understand where the ennemies are facing and from where i'm currently attacking. So the funs runs out pretty quickly.

liked the game, but the gameplay seemed hard without any where to hide from the enemys

Made it to 11000 points! I feel perfectly prepared for the pizzacious future.

The music and design really flowed together well, the gameplay had a sweet arcade feeling to it which made it fun to play just over and over again to get a higher score. The funny customer replies were a nice touch too, felt like a reward for delivering the pizzas, that was a great idea. Only thing I feel uncertain about is that the random amount of pizzas enemies drop made it seem like a lot of my scoring was up to luck. But that's a minor thing, the game is a hilarious take on the theme coupled with a great execution! Good job!

@captaindreamcast how did you get better than me at my own game?!

@merpader my optimal strategy is to stay in the bottom right corner and quickly snipe them as they run up to the houses. It still depends on RNG a lot, for example in case some guy comes to the right horizontally, the whole thing falls apart, but it was a pretty reliable strategy.

Ohhh that's a future I would like to see

Pros:
- Great mood with assets!
- Fun game play

Cons:
- A bit tricky to play

Obs:
Maybe I'm just bad at it, but I couldn't find a good way to lose "Luigi"'s sight from "Mario"

Cheers!

Really liked the game, the name with a pun is great.
The only thing that confused me a little is the UI, the buttons are like a little hidden. I thought the tutorial was a loading page for like 3 minutes and then discovered the start button in the middle.
Great game!

Nice game !

I kept on trying but my failures were legion...

I could swear I lost sometimes even though I'm SURE the pizza guy was sideways !

Anyway, the music fits very well, has a neat italian touch to it.

Overall a nice experience, keep it up guys !

This was a really neat game! The idea that everybody is cut-throat about pizza is pretty hilarious, and the soundtrack in the background really complements it. I didn't realise at times when I'd delivered pizzas because I'd expected a sound effect as there had been at other points in the game, so that would be a nice extra touch to have if possible - but regardless this was a fun game, so good job :)

Nice game! The play space is a little small when compared to the size of characters but it does work well, the game is very punishing! there were multiple times where the enemies that were not on the screen yet detected and killed me before i could see them. I like the music and the menu and UI works perfectly for the game you created! Very well done! Except now i want pizza....

Awesome! Very comical and the music and art style were very fitting :grinning: Not sure if there were further levels as the homing pizza deliveries were a challenge to avoid when the body stacked up :stuck_out_tongue: but a few more levels would've been nice to see as the early enemies got a bit repetitive when I knew where they were coming from.

Either way, great game!

Nice! The only complaint I would make is that it's not always clear if your position is correct to kill the delivery guys. Sometimes I felt like I was at a good spot but the delivery guys see me and kills me. Other thant that, good little game!
