WWTD ( World Worst Tower Defence ) by jackw899

b6JjWnz.png Had a lot of fun making this game even though the getting the theme to work on the game didn't go as well as i'd hoped. I learnt alot making the game especially that balancing games is not easy! May work on it for a few more days to improve the balance! I hope you enjoy playing as much as I enjoyed making it!

Instructions: Each wave the buildable spots is reduced, if you have a turret on one of those spots you will be able to move it to an open spot for free. Choose a turret to place and place it on one of the marked circles. You can upgrade, move and sell individual turrets by pressing on them. Total waves is 20.

Blatant case of false advertising. I came in expecting the world's *worst* tower defence, instead I got an enjoyable experience! It felt a bit scripted however, usually one of the most nail biting parts of a TD is building more towers as the current wave is being killed, by only awarding money at the end of a wave you miss out on some of those nerve racking last ditch effort moments.

Thank you for the comment @sauski ! I did want to have money awarded per kill but I decided against it as it would have been alot harder to balance the game I think! I'm very glad it wasn't the worst tower defence you've played!

I liked it, its a fun little td game. The only problem i had was that i could still select a turret to build even if a had no money.

Cool concept, bit buggy. Not sure if I like the slow ramp of the money, think it would be more fun if you gained low amounts of money and turrets costed more that way it feels like you're "earning" something rather than waiting for a few dollars every round.

this is NOT the worlds worst tower defense game. it's actually fun! the biggest problem is that you get money by clearing waves and not by defeating enemies. but thats really it. everything else is just classic tower defense. besides the insane amount of lifes that the base has, i really like the balancing. overall a pretty solid game!

I thought that it was nice, but I felt as if money wasn't coming in fast enough to advance in the later waves. Also, after I lost and hit play again, I entered a round and encountered a bug. I could select the turret and move it around, but I was not allowed to place it. I did enjoy the game when I was able to play it, though.

This was a pretty neat game! Like @jackw899 said, more money would've been nice, as I couldn't go with a round without taking damage early on. Clicking out of the upgrade menu would be appreciated, instead of using Esc. Cool game!

I enjoyed plaing your td-game. as you said the theme is kinda missed. for the most part it plays like a normal td.
the art is good.

Here are some hints you could improve on:
- your turrets shoot the target closest to them instead of the furtest progressed in the path?
- no sound, add sound early in developement. it makes a huge differnce. There are good and easy to use tools out there (e.g. bfxr)

Nice basic TD.

I would recommend that you gain the gold as you kill monsters, that way you don't sit there just waiting.
Also a way to increase the game speed would be nice.

I'm a fan of tower defense games and I've got to say, the title doesn't do it justice, I've certainly played worse. I actually like this one- the graphics are nice and it's simple but not bad.
Good job on this!

Making a TD game for a game jam is always hard but at least it worked (You'd be surprised the amount of just completely broken TD games I've seen on here).

It's been mentioned before and I saw your comment about it but not having money awarded per kill really ruined it for me, because it made mid round really boring and you're just waiting to see if it's a death sentence.

The turrets not having any effects for feedback made it hard to see how effective they actually were.

Speeding up the game would be nice and hotkeys for tower placement.

Still though, good work!

I agree with the guy right before me. My first game ever made was a TD and it takes sooooo muchhhh effort to balance the game, I eventually ended up dropping it. I really think TD is should only be done in game jam with a lot of restrictions, like no money, very few upgrades, very few types of enemies and turrets. Yet still it is difficult to balance. And when you balance TD, you do that all the way to the end game, but game jam participants are not that patient, they will play just a bit, and if you don't do a good job in the beginning with the balancing, players get a mediocre experience.

Anyway, I really couldnt help writing all these down, sorry. Regarding your game, I think to solve the problem of just sitting there and waiting, put a button to start the wave right away, so you wont be blamed for making player wait for long. Waiting is the worst in game, and if you dont have anything for players to do, don't make them wait. Same for during the game, if I let one pass in the beginning, Ill have to wait for him all the way to the end to have him damage 01 health to start the next wave. I really recommend implementing a timer control that you can speed up and down the time, that would kill a lot of waiting time.

All in all, good job putting it all together!

I appreciate all the feedback! I agree with all the negatives people have pointed out and hopefully I can use that to make a better game next time! Thank you everybody that has played the game so far!

In general is a good game. As others said, it is the typical tower defense. Altought I think it is pretty well balance. I miss some sfx and music. More weapon types. But it is ok. Well done!
