Burger Boy by Ben Grimm

[raw]
made by Ben Grimm for LD 41 (JAM)

ld_screen.png First time ever LD participation and the first game for our small team. We more or less used this to try and make a game for the very first time and learn something along the way. Really looking forward to any kind of feedback.

Theme We tried to go for Turnbase vs. Racing, but somehow ended up with a turnbased collectable racer (? is that even a genre).

Game The game is 1v1 turn based. Goal is to collect as many fastfood objects as possible. You have 5 Seconds to decide on your moves. After a certain amount of rounds the one with the most points wins.

Controls Just click the onscreen controls to move the current players car around.

Team 3D Models, Texturs & Look: Kiki, Max Coding: Mario, Ben

We opted out of Graphics-Voting, since the cars and some elements of the buildings were taken from the asset store.

I like the art style of the game but it took me a while to understand the controls
Nice work

It's a cute game. I enjoyed the music. It was cool that when I passed buildings they would turn see through. nice touch!

Graphics are great and fun looking!

I really can see this as a fun multiplayer game! Perhaps with some minigame events like mario party, having the option to leave traps around the stage for others to trip in, I don't know.. lots of possibilities!

Great job!

This is a cool concept which you can probably take even further. It was a little tricky trying to tell how many squares away turns/collectables were. I know you can read the minimap for that info, but I would also maybe like to eyeball it. Even though you opted out of the graphics category, I have to say that your game looks really good. Love the aesthetic. Awesome work, keep it up!

Nice graphics! There are some aspects to be improved, but the idea is good and it would be possible to do an awesome game from it.
Will the new Mario Kart Mobile implement a similar way to drive the cars as yours game does? ;D

Thanks a lot for the feedback :)

Since this is our first LD, when is it allowed to improve a game afterwards? Since i dont want to mess with the rating stuff.

You all gave really good ideas for improvement.
Powerups were a thing on the list, but we didnt have time for it. Think that marioparty/kart crossover direction is the way we should take this ^^

Looks and sounds great, and love the idea! It'd be great to see it developed further. As for when you can improve it, you're probably fine to include links to new versions in the description (rather than in the links section) as long as you make it clear people shouldn't rate newer versions.

I played this alone and felt sad :P

It'd be fun to play with a friend!

That said, most people are playing it alone and it's kind of a shame not to have atleast an AI to play against.

Thanks for the feedback @Lyrcaxis !
You are absolutely right - its not much fun when not playing with a friend in front of the same game instance.

Just coudnt get it to work within the Jam hours - we would be better of having targetet a single player mode or integrating an AI.

I think we'll be adding real networking multiplayer along the way when taking this concept further.

Thanks a lot ^^

Congrats on your entry! I'm very much looking forward to evolutions of this. This feels like a really solid game that would be perfect on a mobile platform.

loved the sound track even though it did get a little repetitive - the gameplay itself was "meh" - possibly becuase of the constant swapping - it might have been better with two sets of controls - nice work
