Survival Chess by Chuck Zelvis
Title is kind of self explanatory.
Survives waves of evil chess pieces which spawn in numerous numbers.
Warning: The game has absolutely no polish, no music, not even basic sounds, the AI is awful and even the game concept itself is quite boring. Play at your own risk.
Help
- Each color means different player against you. Only one piece of every color moves per turn.
- You can buy kings, which grant you an extra action per your turn and increase your maximum health. Health of all kings is global, so you have to protect all of your kings.
- Pawns can change their moving direction. Double click a pawn and then click to the direction for it to face.
For your own sake, don't look at the code. It's an absolutely indecipherable mess that can give brain tumours.

However, it's pretty playable and despite the many possible improvments, it's still enjoyable to play.
What I think could be improved:
* Seeing the pieces move. It would be so fun to see the pieces move from a tile to another instead of just warping. Especially since it's often hard to understand how you lost a piece and where.
* Feedback as pieces die. Obviously, sound but I'm pretty sure you know. But visual effects would have been cool
* Being able to see enemies' range. We all know how chess pieces work, but it would have been nice to quickly tell which enemy piece was a threat to where.
* Additionally, it would have been nice to have a "danger" notice, if, say, an enemy queen can take our king. (especially in the beggining cause you only have one king at first)
* Exponential difficulty. I see it gets progressively harder, but once you get enough kings, you have so many moves per turn that it's pretty easy to take out every enemy pieces. It would have been nice to have some kind of challenge when you reach that point.
That said, it was pretty fun! I won so hard that I even managed to draw my logo with kings:

That being said, there are some things I would have done differently. I think the map is too big. It becomes too confusing a few rounds into the game. I think the size of a standard chess board would be enough. Secondly, what if you changed it a little bit and spawned with more pieces, and at one side of the board? Kind of like in traditional chess. And the AI continously spawned new units at the other side of the board. That would make it feel a bit like a much more strategic version of Plants vs Zombies, or something along those lines.
I would encourage you to continue development on this, but do some changes to the core gameplay and do the polishing you didn't have time for. I think it could be a really fun and unique game. Good luck! :)
