Cactus Madness! by CursedEmbassy
With a restricted time (about 31 hours) we ended up changing the game from what we originally intended and finished up early cause of other IRL plans. We originally planned to make an story based futuristic RPG, with robots and androids (NPC) with each having a side quests, multiple areas (City, Wasteland), lots of trash (each area with it own set of trash, was gonna be very trashy, lol) etc. This will probably be a minigame in the full version with another name, which we will finish up at an later date. More art was made but not added this time around. (Hope to add that in for the full version) but at least we managed to upload something!
For this theme we ended up making it an tilted 2D game. How to play: Simple, you move around with arrow keys:
Up ↑
Down ↓
Right →
Left ←
or W, S, A, D
Objective: You play as the main character, Zero (and only one for now, lol) and have have to go around with his classywalk (lol) and gather as much orbs (points!) as possible, while trying to avoid the cacti. The sign gives no damage, so feel free to pass trough it. It will get harder to to as the space fills up with them (as seen in the pictures below). You can pass trough the cactus, but be aware that you will lose some HP! The bottle restores HP sightly. The Blue Orb give 10 points while the purple on, 100.
Cactus - Damage/Lose HP
Sign - No Damage
Bottle - Restores HP Sightly
Blue Orb - 10 points
Purple Orb - 100 points

Have fun, and would be nice to get some feedback and possibly ideas for both this minigame and the full game, memes references are welcome if you got an idea related to that, as well as items and characters and story related to them that might fit the setting >.O
*We will put your name in the credits if we end up using your idea. >.O
And feel free to share your score in the comment section, would be nice to know how everyone did! ( ᐛ )و
To Do: Complete city + possibly make 2 more city areas, NPCs (4 robots, 2 types from each gen), complete heroine, 3 extra NPCs for side quest ++ maybe more later, feel free to give idea for thing to make to.
NOTE: As good as everything is created from scratch, exluding the music, which is by Miyuu (Royalty Free). We hope you enjoy this minigame! C:
And for those wondering the game is made in gamemaker and art is drawn by hand.

Gotta love the segways.
@justinsix we definitively will, Nurf also said that he really wanted to finish this up :) and understandable, this needs work.
@bovandenberg Thanks dude, warms my heart to know!
@soyertek Thanks for the feedback, I thought the same when trying it out. I will tell Nurf about it he does not come and take a look for himself first.
@chaitae lol, sure is (*´艸`*)
@sixbeeps Appreciate the tought. Will make Nurf look over the comment section to see what we need to improve, hope to fix up the jam entry also, but need to talk it over with him.
@serious07 As the artist what I used most of the time on was the art, including a lot that did not make it into the game. I think Nurf used most of the time on the script and engine. Hope to make it more interesting :)
@rngsilvercraft Had never tough of my drawing style as unique but nice to know that some think so (^-^)
@neuralcoder yeah, the art was drawn by hand then scanned, but we did not have time to fix the art properly before the programmer had to leave. Having a hard time moving over from hand to digital, so for now I'm doing all work by hand and trying to get better in that field before moving on to digital. And thanks happy to know that the art is cute, will make more cutesy characters later, including the heroine, Cynthia :)
And everyone thanks for trying out. Aware that this needs lots of work to turn out as we originally intend to make it, and appreciate the constructive criticism and every one being honest and cool about it ^^
There was lots of art I made that did not make it into the game, and script as well that is not used yet so I decided to share some of it and the overall content and story we originally intended to go for, in a post. Feel free to take a look if you want. I leave a link for those interested :)

My main feedback is that, from the description, I thought I would strolling down a path and as I moved forward the road would become more cluttered rather than randomly things popping in/out. Perhaps that something to explore like I am being taken on a journey collecting these orbs and as I get closer and closer to the destination the road gets more cluttered making it hard for me to progress. A metaphor for how often in life the closer to a goal you are the more pressure one feels as if being squeezed into a tiny space? ;)
Hope you've had a great LD!
I like that Zero was riding a segway xD very smooth.
I would definitely add edges to the map so one can't just walk (or ride) out. also I'd include either an objection in order to end the game or a timer. Else it goes on for ever.
I would say the art but especially the music carries the game.
...man that music caught my heart. Very surprising for royalty free. Endd up playing longer just to listen to it.
