The art style is nice and the music works for the game, though it doesn't really feel like a rhythm game, as playing on the beat isn't really a part of it. It's really hard to focus on both the note hitting section and the top RPG section, so it's nice that there are sound effects for things like when your attack is ready.
idk if it's just me, but the controls also feel really unintuitive. having the four directional arrows lined up vertically just doesn't make sense to my brain and I always mess up L/R arrows, but again, maybe that's just me.
I had fun with it! played it for a while before I could even get to wendigo!
The game also feels very complete which is nice (menus, tutorials, different modes).
It is true that the vertical display of the arrows is a bit confusing, but still it's okay. I just feel like the notes should come to you and you should lose health when you get the wrong key instead of the current way things are. I doesn't necessarily needs to be in sync with the music, the flute works by itsel <3, I just would feel more pressure and I'd also be more focused (overall just more fun). The way things are right now is more like "hey you should give some input or you'll die... in like, 5 minutes". Obviously that is only my personal opinion, although I do think the game would be much more intense with automatic scroll. Maybe the game should also pause or at least slowdown for the attacks this way you can both focus on the top and bottom half.
Good job guys ! Could do for a shippable game with a bit of work and maybe a slight redesign of the mechanics.
Why don't you try mine and rate it, too? Thanks! https://luxgile.itch.io/shooting-mama
And I was really temped to try and repeat those long streaks because I wasn't feeling that much pressure...
The music and visuals are all fantastic - they compliment each other well, and I had fun wondering who my next opponent would be. It seemed a bit of a shame that I had to concentrate on the very bottom-left of the screen; I felt like I was missing out on the graphics you put so much work into (not that the icons/bar don't look nice)!
Another issue was that the battles seemed to last a little too long... I ran out of health right at the very end of level 5, and I was frustrated about having to do so much all over again. Perhaps I'm just slow at pushing the right keys!
All in all, however, I had a lot of fun with this game. I found myself strangely invested in the story, and I played for much longer than I thought I would. I think it's largely in part to the wonderful atmosphere.
Great Work! 5/5
