Cell Trapper by tybantarnusa

[raw]
made by tybantarnusa for LD 42 (JAM)

Description

The game is simple, you have to trap purple cells using walls. However, if you build more walls to trap the cells, your movement will also be limited because of the walls. Trap as many cells as possible. Go through as many waves as possible within the shortest time as possible.

The detection for monsters being "trapped" seems to only detect when they are inside a wall. You could rename the "trapped" state to something like "crushed". Overall a great game with a lot of possibility for strategy.

Great game idea, although maybe add a retry button somewhere as a UI element to avoid players from just refreshing the page or something ridiculous. Good job.

The game was pretty fun to play! I do wish that the level would reset every wave and that enemies would not be able to immediately spawn on the player though.

Fun little game ! I loved your mechanic and your take on the theme.

Pros :
- Strong concept, with a deep connection to the theme
- The "R" mechanic is a great risk/reward mechanic
- Well-balanced difficulty curve
- Simple graphics and good audio feddback wake for readable action

Cons :
- Wall control scheme is a little wonky at times (when you are close to the borders of the room for example)
- Some background music would be serviceable

All in all, great job !

Very simple game but pretty clever!! Im impressed
It could have some music to avoid feeling empty in the game, there's to something I couldn't notice at first: the direction the pj was looking, I know the pj have it, but it looks so small that was difficult to me hahaha (I use glasses)
But again: Amazing Game! I'll try Godot because of this :spy:

Thank you everyone for the feedback.

@wiredoverload I keep it there because I want to stick with the theme. Though, I feel it will be difficult to play, so I reset it every five level. And I noticed too, the enemy can spawn right on the player. I wanted to fix it but I had no time to do that :(

@jlv I wanted to add background music but I got sick during the jam, so I cut it :(

@punisherxa Honestly, I was lazy to make different graphics to the character lol. I planned to make it different but I don't like making graphics, so I just do the easy way (changing the position of the eyes).

Once again, thank you for the feedbacks. I will try your games as soon as I can.

Congratulations on a successful game. Simple, but actually fun.

Some improvements like not having enemies spawn at you would be nice.

Anyway, good job

I really like this game concept, but as @erikbot had said, player actually needs to crush enemies instead of trapping them. But at the end Good job!

Great usage of the theme. A bit of music and quality of life improvements ( no instant contact damage or preventing them from spawning near you) would have been nice, but solid jam entry nonetheless.

Wow I really like this game!
The simple idea and execution works perfectly for this game. There are still few things that would have been nice to have like music/changing background and it was little bit "annoying" when I turn the player he moves to that direction and I can mess up my square.

Still, very good job and a fantastic entry.

hi @tybantarnusa

Solid jam entry here ;) maybe preventing the enemy to spawn IN you would be nice :p

Also I don't really understand why but sometimes when I begin a new wave, the walls disappear by themselves and sometimes not. If they are intending to disappear at this moment make sure it does, because if i have to do it myself (press R) it'll make the enemies faster directly at the beginning of the wave.

Really like this game ;)

Such a small cool concept. I really didn't think that it would be this innovative. it just needs more eye-catching visuals. I didn't really understand what to do after I was stuck!

Thank you for the feedback.

@fingamer Background music was planned, but I got sick during the jam so I cut it. I also feel that, I was confused how to make the facing and where you can build the wall better.

@kack3y Preventing spawning on the player was on my mind but I had no time to fix that. The walls disappear automatically every 5 waves just to balance the difficulty curve a bit.

@pnghasemi To be honest I was too lazy doing the graphics :p Therefore, I just do quick pixel art without minding the details. And I can't draw :( Anyway, thank you.

@jyrms Thank you for trying the game :)

Thank you everyone. And as always, in return for commenting, I will play and rate everyone's games.
