Stacks O' Cats by Lumous

[raw]
made by Lumous for LD 40 (JAM)

The more you have, the worse it gets. But you can't help yourself. You need as many cats as possible to be happy! When you think you're happy enough, you will get another cat! See how many you can get!

By standing nearby and pressing 'e' you can pick up Laser pointers, Food Bowls, Cats, and of course the Food Bag! Put it back down by pressing 'e' again.

To pour food just hold space while holding the food bag. Fire the laser pointer by holding space whiel pointing at the ground with the mouse.

Gain the most happiness by being around sleeping or playing cats! Stay away from angry cats, they will make you sad. Or feed them I guess...

This game was made over the weekend with about 20 hours of work times 3 people working on it.

This is super silly, but I like it. The art is oddly charming.

Really lovely art and gameplay feeling, its almost therapeutic (:

I would like to see this as some kind of tamagochi-like game in a mobile game :D

Also, thanks for making the cats not pooping, haha would make things really hard!

I think that the UI could have been ever so slightly better, but otherwise a really cute meownagement game :P

Found the game quite entertaining and very cute. I could see this being a time killer on the mobile :)

Intelligent use of the theme, looks good and is fun. A solid submission.

I waited around not doing anything with 5 cats and expected something unnerving to happen.
Something happening then would have been nice.

The amount of my life that I've lost on Neko Atsume :D I enjoyed playing and the cats are very cute, I second the mobile app suggestion :) Good job!

really adorable game, theme fits with it. It pretty much does what it means to do. Only downside is the collision for the wall. They block you at from the top of the wall. Good luck making future games :D

This cats is really nice :) Love the simplisity and depth of interactions:
- You can use laser to herd cats
- Or bring back stray ones
- And also you can move all food bowls in main hall
- Or feed cats directly from the bag.

Cute game. Had some issues with the sound though (something that didn't sound right played in quite loudly in the background sometimes), but otherwise fairly enjoyable.

I love this game :) I got up to about 16 cats before my wrist started aching (I'd have played for longer if there was full controller input!). I also really like that there's a web version. Good job guys :)

Thanks! You can also pick up cats! (e key) if they block your path.
The sound is a bug.. i'll see if i can fix it. Basically when a cat is angry it plays an angry sound... but it plays it every frame, so it sounds like a loud grumble.

Cool game, I really liked the particle effects. They're all small/subtle but are tuned so well they look awesome, especially the laser of course. Great juggling game concepts in here, it would've gotten crazy if you implemented all those other states you had planned. I'd love to see this taken further.

Very cute game! I love their walking animations and the entire concept of the game. My only complaint is that I felt like there was too much time in between cats appearing which made the game really slow.

The laser points is on point. \) The cat animations are very cute too. I liked the "game", despite it never ending. I don't know if it was intended. Nice idea!

It's very funny because at the beginning of LD40 I imagined our game to be like your game -
it turned out a little different ;-)
It's so great to see someone else having a similar idea and get it to work.

Cute! I liked playing with the cats and the laser pointer! I intentionally let the happiness run to 0%, and noticed that nothing seemed to happen (except for the cats getting red). But maybe it would have too sad otherwise.

Gameplay didn't seem too interesting long-term - setting down all the food bowls in a row and filling it with the endless food seemed like a strategy which would work for a really long time. Maybe I would have liked it when new gameplay elements would have been introduced over time.
