Basketball-Tactics

Basketball Tactics is a turn-based tactics basketball game created for Ludum Dare 41. The theme of LD41 was "Combine two incompatible genres".

How to play:

  • Click on a player to see their stats and position.
  • Once a player is selected, you can click on an empty tile to move the player. The distance a player can move is based on their speed stat.
  • The player with the ball can pass or shoot (this player is denoted by a slightly darker color). ..* to pass, select the player with the ball, then click on the Pass button. Next, click on the player you would like to pass to. ..* to shoot, select the player with the ball, then click on the hoop.
  • After you shoot, the players will be reset to their original positions. If you scored, you will see your score increase by 2. If you miss, the Away team score is increased by 2.
  • Each player can only perform one action per turn.

Note: There really is no win condition to this game. It is really more of a prototype than a game. Play around with the mechanics and let me know what you think. Thank you.screen00.png

Could work as an idea but sadly there is not much to do in this game. It is also a bit hard to follow who has the ball, who has moved and how much can players actually move.

With some work on visuals and animation (+ AI of course :), this could be a fun game. Somehow reminds me of Blood Bowl.

Hey. This is a cool idea :). I agree with @Nash as there isn't much to do in this game. I do not know why I'm ending the turn either as there is no AI playing against me, but it could definitely be a fun game with some work!

Nice concept. I would love to see this be turned into something bigger.

Interesting idea but hard to tell if there is AI involved or I'm supposed to ask a friend to play. Adding a ball graphic would make it more obvious who has it.

@JezPez - there is no AI, simply because I didn't have enough time to make it. I ended up just making it reset positions and give the other team a point if you miss your shot, but that's as far as I made it with the AI unfortunately. I may flesh this out further in the future, since I do like the concept and I think it could turn into something fun.

Kind of liked the idea, but the game felt unfinished and it was a bit hard to understand what was going on.

The base idea is promising. I understand it's a early work in progress without AI but there is some bugs (multiple balls ...) and it missing strategy.
I'm sure you'll find out a way to improve it ;-)

Fun concept! Turn based sports is certainly an interesting idea, it always reminds me of Blitzball...

I can mostly just say what has been said before. If there was an actual ball you could make a throw miss by x tiles instead of just having a success or failure. The players already have a speed, so that could determine who goes when, once an AI enemy exists. Seems like it could be fun and I hope for the best in its development.

Promising start. Needs more UI love to tell you what's going on (if unfamiliar with tactics it'd be hard to know that you click a piece and then click within the move rate to move the piece).
