Synopsis

You just bought a run down farm on credit from Amazoom® and need to make it profitable so that you can pay off your loan. Unfortunately, you have a TERRIBLE weed problem and if you don't take care of them every day, they will get out of control.

Gameplay

Starting

You start the game with Ƶ100 and a small gift of 5 Lettuce Seeds, 5 Turnip Seeds, and 5 Fertilizer to start your farming adventure. Let's see if you can pay off the full Ƶ50,000 loan!

Planning

  • Each day you wake up at 05:30. You probably want to start your day buy checking your personal Amazoom® Deposit Box™ to receive any items you ordered the previous day. Next day shipping is awesome!

  • You can buy more seeds and fertilizer using the Amazoom® Store™ App on your Amazoom® Pyro™ smartphone. You can also make payments on your loan using the Amazoom® Finance™ App! Isn't technology wonderful?

  • Don't forget to drop off any of your harvested crops in your personal Amazoom® Deposit Box™ so that you can earn more ZoomBux!

  • Finally, you need to remember that a rested farmer is a productive farmer. Try to get to bed before 20:00 to get a full night's sleep and wake up fully refreshed for the next day. If you work yourself too hard, you won't feel too great the following day. :(

Farming

  • Plant seeds in nutrient dirt to ensure your crops grow in a timely manner
  • Speed up a crop's growth period by placing fertilizer on a crop (reduces maturation time by 1 day)
  • Water your crops or they won't grow
  • Harvest mature crops and drop them off in your personal Amazoom® Deposit Box™ to sell them over night
  • Mature weeds spread to all adjacent tiles; they can even kill crops so make sure to keep those under control
  • Fertilize nitrient-deficient dirt to improve the quality so crops can grow again

It seems like a lot of the systems are there to make this a coherent farming game, which I think is impressive given the time constraints. The music and sound effects were good, and I appreciate the relaxing gameplay. I think the biggest thing that needs work is player feedback. I didn't really know how to navigate the harvest menu or the phone menu very well, and the chest in front of the house kind of just sit there and did nothing visually when I was interacting with it.

On my system (Arch Linux, RX480 with open source amd driver) some UI elements flickered regularly.

Overall, great work. I am especially impressed with anything 3D made in Love. I'd like to get dive into Love3d at some point my self.

And so my tradition of playing your 3d games made with Love2d continues. I can honestly say that once again, you have managed to out do yourself. This is your best entry in my humble opinion! I recorded some gameplay, please forgive my nooby-ness in the beginning. I have not played very many similar games so the first day can be summarized with throwing shit on the ground, watering it and calling it a day.

I do get a hang of it after a little while though, unfortunately my recording stopped about half way in, but I figured that you would still be interested in seeing how the first 10 minutes of your game might look when someone is playing it for the first time.

Like I express in the video, the graphics are amazing. I really enjoy how everything feels so polished and coherent that you almost forget that you are playing a jam game. It was also ridiculously cute and relaxing. I wish that I had played this sooner, could have helped me calm down after all the stress from this Ludum Dare.

I also found all of the parody names really funny, it's great that you spend a bit of extra time creating them rather than just calling it a store and naming the currency dollars. It adds a lot more than one might think. Another small detail that I appreciated was that the purchase menu is not just a box that appears, but your mobile phone.

Finally I want to give you credit for inventing a good scenario for **why** we are doing all of this. Many similar simulators lack that and often I just feel like "why are we even..." when trying them. The debt aspect makes for a great reason and it makes sense. It also gives you a clear goal that you have to work towards while balancing your account. If you pay off too much you might struggle to generate more currency since you can buy all of the supplies that you need.

Thank you for this super amazing entry! :medal:

@shinyogre thanks! the UI flicker is a known issue, I couldn't figure out what was causing that at all. I will make sure it is sorted out. I completely agree that player feedback & information is lacking, we just ran out of time! the lettuce model is used for most of the crops because of this too, I was building them right to the last minute!

@simon-rahnasto thanks a lot for all the kind words & thanks for the video of first play, it's very helpful to see the things that are confusing at first. did your pumpkins & blueberries make as much as you had hoped? :)

I saw many places where improvements to instructions, control and feedback would have been helpful, I will work on it.

Wow this was really good! I played this like 2 hours or maybe more, it looks really polished, and the idea is good, I did find the UI flicker and some sound issues, but nothing big...

From here on I leave feedback, this are not things I based my rating on, just things I would have found NICE.

Regarding UI the marker at the bottom was kinda hard to get used to, like I totally didn't know what tool I had selected until I looked down or used it by mistake.

The plants lacked a timer or something cause I totally didn't knew when I was able to collect them, would have been really helpful to know.

You probably ran out of time to make more types of crops assets, totally fine though, not a big deal
Same with sound, it became oddly repetitive after 2 hours haha but again for 72 hours and only 2 people this is incredible, congrats! I hope you continue the streak of cool Jam games

Fantastic solid entry. Had to look back at the instructions to find the amazoon store thingy but other than that it was all pretty self explanatory. It looked and felt solid. Well done! A bit slow for me, as farming games aren't my super fav's but for an ld entry like this this looks so good. :D

Nice farming game, the various farming features (watering, haversting, etc) are kept simple and functional, nice work! I liked the sounds and graphics. Maybe there's a lack of feedback or tutorial on the chest/inventory part for players who have not played Stardew Valley, which seems to be a reference of yours :) I liked that I was able to play with a controller. One last thing: It didn't feel like a 'farmageddon' because it was really slow with a very long term objective (quite a substantial debt) and the weeds were not a problem if I took care of them every day. So yeah I was kind of surprised by the game's pace. Overall, great work!

Okay, I've just played it for a while now. The game is very impressive for 72 hours.

It took a while to understand what's going on, I had to re-read the instructions many times because there were a lot of things to learn.

After some days, all the weeds were pulled and I could start planting, fertilizing and watering.

Then a lot of buying and selling.

After 20 extra days I got bored, because it's more like work than play.

Music is really nice, I didn't even had to complain there wasn't a mute button.

Buying seeds: sometimes I have the feeling i got different seeds than I had bought.

Fertilizer should be at the top of the shopping list, i buy it almost every day,

Buying seeds is a bit strange since you don't know how much they make, so there's no strategy there.

There's a neat game under it, and if you continue work on it, it would become a good harvest moon alternative ^_^

Incredible! Took me a few hours to pay off the debt (day 77! I struggled with the weed control at the start :stuck_out_tongue: ) and I was a little disappointed nothing happened but honestly, the systems you got in place for this are amazing and worked flawlessly.

While the GFX are not 100% complete, what is there is very good and I'd love to see a more polished version with perhaps an upgrade to get rid of weeds a bit faster as that was quite painful. Great audio and intuitive controls also!

Superb job!
