Nosy God Car Racing by JanGamesDev

[raw]
made by JanGamesDev for LD 41 (COMPO)

Nosy God Car Racing is the odd fusion between a racing game and a god simulator. You are the god so pick a car and do whatever you can to make sure it wins the race, you have 9 different goodly abilities to make the punny humans do what you like, you can make a car change lane by your command or struck someone with a lighting.

How to play

Can be played only with the mouse. And there are shortcuts (1-9) for the abilities. To use the abilities select them using the mouse or the keyboard shortcuts and then click on the car you want to affect. All abilities have a cooldown (when they are greyed out)

great game. i do wish there were hotkeys for the abilities, though.

@epiin There are hotkeys, press (1-9). I forgot to tell that inside the game.

Fun little god racer you've got here. I could barely get to first place on easy. I shudder to think how I'd do on difficult. I am, indeed, a weak god :/ Great work!

I didn't understand how to play, the buttons didn't seem to do anything :(

Nice art and sounds, though. I liked the aesthetic

nice little car game. the controls were difficult, but the action gameplay went forward all the time so you wouldnt get bored even though the controls were those buttons...

Very nice idea. Was fun exploring what each of the cards did.

Really cool and unique idea. Some more information about what all the abilities did would have been nice, as some of their effects weren’t very clear. What did the enlarge and shrink actually do? I hoped the enlarged cars would hit the cars in the neighboring lanes, but they didn’t and there didn’t seem to be much difference in their behavior. Not a big issue of course, and overall, I really enjoyed it. It was nice to have all the different options and modes as well. Good job!

Nice game i like it =) it would be easier to have some shortcuts for each ability.

Nice idea - I'd find it easier to remember the number for each ability if they were presented in a row/column instead of in a grid, and then maybe if each car had a number, so I could press [ability number], [car number] instead of having to make sure I click the car (and don't miss it if it makes a sudden move or something).

But other than that, it was definitely a unique take on the genres, I just wish there was more of it (like I do of most good Ludum Dare games - nobody ever has the time to do all they'd want).

Nice game. The controls were a bit difficult. but after knowing each shortcut it got better. Funny music and good sound. Thanks

Really cool concept! It really gives you a sense of control, albeit indirect, on the win/loss outcome. The abilities were cool, but it seems like I really only needed 2 (boost, lightning).

Personally, even with the hotkeys, I still found it clunky to have to press the car I desired. This made changing lanes kind of pointless because by the time I clicked the right ability, and got my cursor over the intend target, the situation had changed enough to make it moot. A system like @Slashee-the-cow mentioned might solve this.

Still, it was a ton of fun, and a great mashup of genres! Nice job!

Overall quite nice game. Goes well with the theme. The UI and controls could be a bit better though. :)

Ditto on the "I'm too slow and it's too late to have an effect." However, I did manage to win...just use boost a few times and cue up a "move over" and wait for some idiot to be in my way. Wheeee! I only need 2 controls. Oh, wait, that might mean something. Thanks for the game. I played it a couple of times and enjoyed it.

@fussenkuh Thanks for playing.

@tero-pulkkinen Thanks for the feedback and I agree that the controls need more work.

@alferbayter I'm glad you had fun :D

@gurbx Thanks for the feedback, I was going to add descriptions or a help but my brain was to overloaded by the end of the development, enlarge make cars faster (and eventually they would hit neighboring cars but the gameplay too fast paced to get to that point) shrink make cars slower.

@wramp Thanks for playing and they are shortcuts but they are not explained ingame (I added them at the last minute) D:

@slashee-the-cow Thanks for the feedback and the ideas, and as always the initial idea had money, betting and upgrades but didn't make it in time.

@gamedevbynight Thanks for playing fellow Kha developer ;D

@nick-rafalski Thanks for the feedback and yeah I agree most of the abilities are there just to have fun (the command left/right are pretty useful to make civilians crash into enemy cars) and I should have made the input a little easier.

@rewzu Thanks for the feedback, and yes, those areas are not my strongest, I need to work on them.

@jshaffer94247 Thanks for playing, and someone else played only with boost and lighting so they are at least 2 different strategies :P

Very solid game all around. There's nothing really to complain about. Maybe keyboard controls? Perhaps letters are used to select powers and number keys are used to target the cars. I don't know if that would be more convenient or not. Either way, good job. :smiley:

As someone mentioned before me, it's not obvious that you have to click first on the buttons and then on a car. Otherwise, nice game, I won total insanity mode by driving on the grass :grin:

I'd just repeat what everybody else said, so I'll be brief: controls were a bit difficult to master, but other than that it's a fun game and a great concept & theme fit. Good job!

Game is fun but it is hard to use ability just in time. It's cool that you can use abilities on any car, that can produce cool situations. Great job!
