Puny World by Joe Cowman

[raw]
made by Joe Cowman for LD 38 (COMPO)

titleCard.JPG

You are Ludarius, a lesser god.

You are a student at the Heavenly School for Divine Beings and Other Ghosty Things.

For your senior project, you are tasked with ruling a world for one year.

It shouldn't be too hard, right? It's such a small world.

For Ludum Dare 38 (Theme: A Small World), I created a goofy god-simulation game. Gameplay consists of answering the prayers of your followers.

Disappointingly, I ran out of time to create a lot of story content. So this is more of a mechanic demo! If you like it, try the post-jam version! It has more characters and choices, and I plan on updating it more in the future.

I laughed a lot with your game haha.
I'm an horrible god.

Maybe more choices and music would had been a cool addition.

Overall very creative and well executed game!

I love the butterfly effect goin' on here! It felt like I was desperately trying to backpedal as a seemingly innocuous decision quickly spiraled out of control. xD Love the concept! Would love to see some added scenarios in the future.

Reminds me of the game Reign with less banquet choking. Would've been great to have more content but I did chuckle for a couple of minutes :)

I love this, it reminds me very strongly of the game Reigns (which is a good thing, Reigns is absolutely fantastic). I'd love to see a version with more content, particularly in the form of more unrelated prayer-trees (as opposed to making the existing prayer trees longer and more complex). My new passtime is repeatedly destroying and resurrecting the world's birds.

(An _exceedingly_ minor niggle, but there are _way_ more than 300 million birds on Earth. Also, the comma placement is real weird on the score screen).

Sadly, the game is very short. But the concept of a humorous god simulator is good. Yes for bird marriage.

I tried to be a just god, but Huck Wallace is a peacock now.

This feels a little bit empty, but I get the gist from the little content available.

I like the humor, I liked seeing what kinds of things happened by trying the other branches. As I tried getting all the endings I noticed that it become kind of tedious to wait for the prayers to arrive, the little wait inbetween them felt kind of annoying after a while. Some way to skip ahead to soothe the increasing impatience as that little pause arrives again and again would probably be nice.

I like the concept too, I think with more complex branching and maybe even some deeper storylines, it could be a pretty compelling experience. Obviously it needs some sound as well, as audio done well always enhances an experience.

So, good job on your entry!

The compo version is indeed a little short. Just a little. This could be fun with some expansion.

Short but sweet and I got some good chuckles. I think I saw 8 different endings? I love short games that have multiple endings. And you writing is funny :)
