Garden Solitaire by Paulgami

[raw]
made by Paulgami for LD34 (COMPO)
A puzzle game where you have to grow the best flower garden you can with the cards you are dealt.

Click on a card to select it, then click a square of your garden to play it in. Green flower cards can be placed on an empty square to plant a flower. Blue water cards are played on top of flowers to water them.

When a flower has been watered enough, it will have all its petals and you will earn a few cards back into your hand.

If you can get a flower to fully bloom in every square of your garden, you'll clear the game and get a score bonus.

Nifty! Took a few goes to remember what flower has what petals after I've placed it, but like the idea. Lots of nice touches too

Nice animation and good graphics. Wished for a mute button on the music for a while, the SFX was really good but the tune got a bit on my nerves after a while :D Really good embryo for a puzzler but I think most of the levels are unsolvable unless you are lucky? (Had completed 7 of 9 squares and thought I was on a roll, but had no water left and got dealt 3 new flowers.. :)) I think you have a good idea here but might need to iterate a bit more on the rules/balance so a level can be solved with some more strategy. Felt like the placement of the flowers did not matter? But a good start to add more stuff, perhaps some chaining of flowers/different rains could be a good meta play, or some wind vector or fertilizer to blow into the garden...

I like the idea, but I felt like the randomness of the card had too much of an effect on the game compared to the order in which I choose to play them.

Pro:
+ Great interesting concept
+ Audio and visual are nice
Con:
- Needs more balancing, winning is much a matter of luck, though strategy is important

Great job!

Like the concept, altough I feel that the completability of it is very random.

As a side note, as much as the music is fitting please add volume control for it :p
