Lost Orbs by Masthiks

[raw]
made by Masthiks for LD 40 (JAM)

Your are an adventurer. Always in quest for some valuable treasures, your heard of this temple holding mystic orbs.

The goal is to collect every orbs in the level and put them in your treasure chest. But things aren't that easy: Collect an orb and water will slowly submerge the temple. Collect two orbs or more and the water will flows more and more quickly.

If you feel like running out of time, you can temporarily disable the deadly traps by putting back orbs on the altairs.

Good luck !!

I couldn't find my way to lvl4… so I gave up… but only because the walking sound is too annoying.
The game is nice though,
Good job.

Nice visual style. The diagonal controls were difficult to get use to and I could not get past level 2. Good concept.

The controls for the game need to be fixed, but i think its just me or my computer.

For some reason I felt like right arrow should be right-and-down etc., presumably from other games I've played? And it took a long time to adjust. Would be nice if that were an option -- if you had time you could even maybe start the player on a one-way platform and set the controls based on what direction they push (Psychonauts does something like this with the up/down camera control).

I couldn't finish level 2 at all! I was trying to grab an orb, quickly take it to the altar on the high ground, then do the same with the other orb, but I can never escape the water with the 2nd orb before it catches me :(

Beautifull game. The transfert from diagonal layout to keyboard keys made it confusing so I had to put my keyboard in diagonal.

Felt awesome that I figured out level 2.
Level three did me in though. Tricky stuff.
Neat idea. :)

Quite tricky! I failed at the 3rd level and gave up, partially because of the walking sound. :D
But I like the concept, the approach to the theme and the graphics. Well done!

I like the idea but i don't feel confortable with the direction of arrows and the perspective, it was really tricky. Nice job!

Thanks for all the feedback! It appears that some of you are in trouble with the controls, sorry for that :(

I think we will look at old games like Solstice to improve that. Karln, this is a good idea too!
The solution given by Shivur works great by the way!

Also, if you are interested I made a video showing the three levels:

We did not think it would be so hard x)

Very interesting take on the theme. Nice graphics and overall visual style. Only thing lacking was audio. And the controls.. oh.. but as others have found out, turning your keyboard helped. Good game.

Great job! I really loved how your game fit the theme. The puzzle elements were interesting, and each level felt well-designed. I loved the art-style, but obviously had the same problems with the walking sound as everyone else. Otherwise, the game's puzzle elements blended well with the art in a way that made a short but fun experience.

A good one. But the controls are not really intuitive and the sound is aweful (our sound is not better tho...) XD

I like the concept and how it fits with the theme. The controls took a bit of getting used to and I think the experience would have been better sans the walk sound. Overall nice work, though.

It took a few tries but I completed the three levels. (For those stuck on earlier levels, putting orbs back on higher laying altars to pause the flood is key) The controls are rather tricky, which means that even when I thought up the solution, it took several tries. Levels 2 and 3 have to be run almost without error to complete once the water starts pouring. Perhaps a top down camera, or at least not a 45 degree isometric view that makes it hard to remember which way is which would help. Also, a restart button might be nice, so after a fuck up you don't have to wait until you've drowned.

Overal a cool concept that fits with the theme, slightly held back by the controls.

Awesome concept. Would like to see full game.

Bad things I noticed: no restart button, last level was a bit unclear.
I recommend adding next level button in LD games for people who get stuck.

Nice concept with some interesting mechanics. Same as many others, I didn't find the keyboard mapping to be natural at all and it was quite frustrating to die because of the controls. Good job overall!
