Itza Panic by Taffaz

[raw]
made by Taffaz for LD 43 (COMPO)

This game is a tower defense game where you need to sacrifice people and animals to generate power in order to build towers. Leave a comment and I'll make sure to try out your game too. Let me know how long you lasted, my best is 44 years.

Aim of the game: Try and survive for as long as possible against waves of mysterious invaders

How to play: Sacrifice animals and prisoners to generate 'Nature' and 'Revenge' power to build towers to repel the invaders. In desperate times you can also sacrifice your youngsters to gain 'Vitality' and Elders to gain 'Elder'. These two towers are more powerful but more expensive.

Notes: Farms generate 2 animals per year Prisons allow room for 5 additional prisoners Houses allow 8 citizens to live Youngsters and Adults generate children if there is population space. As the years pass these citizens age Elders generate passive power (except 'Revenge') Prisoners have a chance to be captured when a tower hits an enemy Prisoners can be sacrificed for power or ransomed for gold Towers can't be built in the firing range of other towers (The extra range of vitality towers can restrict future tower placement)

Towers: Nature - Average Fire Rate, Average Health, Average Capture Chance Vitality - Average Fire Rate, High Health, Low Capture Chance, High Range Elder - Very Fast Fire Rate, Low Health, High Capture Chance Revenge - Fast Fire Rate, Average Health, Very High Capture Chance

Tips: At the start of the game sacrifice all your animals and build a Nature Tower Either Sacrifice your prisoners to get a Revenge tower as soon as possible or ransom them to build farms for more animals Build a house with your initial money as you start close to the pop cap The spawn rate gets faster over time and starts to really ramp up after 25 years Game.png

After year 40 it gets crazy. I got to 43 with my prisoner sacrificing machine.

It's a bit overwhelming at the start, but you learn as you play.

I think you can build under UI if you click on it with selected building, so that's a minor issue.

Great game, good job!

prisoner sacrificing seems like the fastest way to get towers down. i enjoyed the use of the theme though and had fun playing. good work!

Very deep for an LD game!! Hard to understand but after a while it gets fun. I'm not a big fan of walls of text, telling me what to do and what not to do, so maybe next time try to incorporate the tutorial in the gameplay. But overall very impressive!

I got to a respectable level 41, however i do not feel like much further is possible.
Overall an interesting idea and fairly well executed. the graphics are obviously not the best but this is a game jam so they don't really matter. I personally don't feel like a tutorial was necessary as the game is very self explanatory.
Finally, the game could have done with some music, even if it was a free download from online, to add more atmosphere.

Year 38 then a break in my defenses did me in. It's a strangely compelling game, and I was transfixed on it for the duration. Some sounds would elevate it to yet another level. Nice work.

Neat game. I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/Lq0vHUPYciI

Ahh, I never managed to reach your amazing 44. Got really close though, my record was 43 after a couple tries. I had enough farms to just spam nature towers and keep the invaders occupied long enough. It's very fun trying different approaches to building defenses, there are a lot of ways to try and last when the enemies become overwhelming.
You've really put a lot of thought into balancing the different towers and it shows, I didn't find any strategy that felt overwhelming. Great job on that and great job overall on your game!

Managing your sacrifices can be quite addictive ... missed some more sound effects though and visual feedback perhaps ...

The game is easy until turn 40, so I could only reach turn 44. Also when I restart the level is at the same from before.

It is fun 😁 and it is the kind of games I used to play when I was a child. So it keeps me engaging, but the difficulity ramp is like to total easiness to instant death. 🤔 Maybe there should be some health implementation, or upgrades to be able to survive longe by sacrificing, etc.

To sum up, good work 👍, please, keep trying making some games 💪

Nice game, I found it kinda confusing at first.
