WearOut by Abhis1Kadian
Yeah! We did it!!!
This was our first ever game jam, so hyped to have completed it on time. It was really an amazing experience. Had some problems at first because of the theme but still managed to think of a good idea. So to sum up, an amazing experience after all.
CONTROLS ->
A/D -> MOVE LEFT/RIGHT
W -> KICK
SPACE-BAR -> PUNCH
ADDITIONAL THINGS ABOUT THE GAME:
1. Pressing SPACE-BAR kills the enemy instantly but takes away a little bit of ur Health.
2. Ur health will regenerate itself after some time.
3. The platform can't carry more than 3 enemies at a time on it, so if the SPACELEFT reaches 0, the player will RUN OUT OF SPACE.

Congrats !
Maybe the character could have a longer attack range? It was hard to see when you would hit someone or if they would hit you.
Would also be nice with a restart button.
And awesome intro, really set the tone :)
Nonetheless congrats on your first jam :D
But otherwise great game!
Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)

I really enjoyed the setup of this game. You obviously tried to go for a more humourous approach, and I thought it was funny the way the story of the game was arranged. It worked well for this sort of concept, too. I like the idea of a survival defense game where you are trying to conserve space because it can only accommodate you.
The graphics, while simplistic, worked well with the sort of dark humour this game has. Nothing was super distracting or hard to tell apart from the others. A decent enough job was done here. Regarding the music, I'm assuming you didn't make it, considering you opted out of audio. Despite this, I still think it's worth thinking about how you could select music tracks that are more coherent with each other and perhaps more fitting to the type of game this is in general. The collection of tracks, even if they are not your own, can have a big impact on your game's mood regardless.
My biggest gripe with the game, unfortunately, is the gameplay itself. The controls for attacking were not desirable and would have been more suited to keys on the keyboard. There's also not really a whole lot of response within the game itself that shows clearly when your attacks affect the opponents and I didn't catch any significant differences between kicking and punching. As a result, I mostly just spam kicked until I died. It felt really inconsistent, since once you are actually within attacking distance (ie. close enough that when your character punches/kicks it could actually touch the opponent), you're more likely to lose health as you defeat them. Overall, I didn't have a great experience, which is a shame because almost everything else surrounding this game - the story, the minimalistic graphics - does have the potential to be a good basis for a fun game.
Congrats on your first game jam, and welcome to Ludum Dare. :) You managed to complete and submit a game for the first time in a game jam, so that's a pretty impressive feat.
And we'd be happy to play your game ASAP
The art style is very neat too.
Only thing that i did not like, as the others mentioned already, the unclear hitboxes.
If you walk it is super small, but if you stand still you can kick the enemy like 5m aways and kill him easily
otherwise great game =)
Needs feedback on player taking damage.
Keep working!

Otherwise the intro and the plot was really good, but the gameplay needs improvements. Great first entry.
A very nice submission, especially for the first time. If I had to offer some advice, it'd be to calibrate the collisions. They seem wonky and unreliable.
Also, sometimes because I kept clicking, my guy would keep fighting even at zero health. Now THAT is willpower!
1. The description is incorrect. You don't use W to kick or Space to punch. It's left and right click, at least for me.
2. I started kicking enemies when it seemed appropriate, say at 0.5 meters distance, but that would get me hurt all the time. Also, some enemies would be impervious to any and all of my attacks.
3. At that point I started simply continuously clicking both the left and right mouse buttons and I started defeating all of the enemies without any trouble. When I got to score 100 I was bored, and I gave up playing, as it didn't look like the game would get any harder.
4. I saw your clouds in game teleport. It seems to me that you are moving their transform. You should have scrolled the x axis on the UV of the texture instead. Something like material.mainTextureOffset = new Vector2(Time.deltaTime, 0f); would probably have worked.
All in all, unfortunately, you have a broken game that is easily exploitable with very little incentive to keep playing it.
I dont understand why i die after 5 punchs and my hearts get black ?
And for the last point really appreciate that we didn't know how to do that, so thanks for helping us out. I do hope that u play our game again and rerate it again and leave ur feedback about ur experience with it.

I really like the programmer art of the game, the music was lovely too. I wish I could have done some simple animation like that in my game LMAO. The introduction was very strong in humor, that I built up my expectation for the game. However, the gameplay was too simply and didnt quite match up with the strong introduction you gave. I was basically standing near the spawning point and spamming W until I get a nice looking score LOL. I think you guys have a very good start. Making a game more challenging is always easier to do than making it less challenging. Great job on putting it all together!
Keep up the good work!
I dug the graphics and the general mood of the intro, good job on that! If you made the music (description doesn't say), then good job on that, too. Heck, even if you didn't, good job on choosing it.
The game, however, is beyond basic, to the point where I wondered if maybe that was part of the joke. You shoe-horned the actual theme of this Ludum Dare onto it by displaying that "ran out of space" message, but that's not really the same as making a game about the theme. To be fair, there are countless entries that consciously decided not to follow the theme, that's perfectly fine. It did feel a bit dishonest in this case though.
This puts people who want to rate the game into a tough spot. On the one hand, you want to welcome and encourage people who clearly put effort and thought into this. On the other hand, in an atmosphere where even Compo games are judged exactly as harshly as Jam games, one has to reflect the reality that this is in fact a Jam game, and a Jam game that has already been silently patched no less (with no comment from the maker about this) post-Jam.
Finally, what brought me here, is you @abhis1kadian - or rather your review style. I know for a fact that you didn't play my game, yet you rated it and commented on it. Looking at your tremendous but ultimately content-less engagement style on other games and blog posts, I suspect this may have happened more than once. I want to remind you that other people invested time and effort into their games as well, so not only is it ethically appropriate to actually look at their work, it will enable you to make better comments (and may even ultimately broaden your own gamedev horizon).
Again, I'm sorry to put it this bluntly, especially since all the comments in this thread are more positive. Please don't take this as a discouragement.
And finally coming to ur criticism about, me fraudulently rating and reviewing games without playing them, I just want to say that if u do read each and every one of the feedback's of mine that I've given on any game, u'll find that i'm 100% forthcoming in my experiences about the games.
Honestly, I do hope that u come forward with ur real handle and reply to me.
I had no idea what I was doing, I spammed buttons and eventually learned the controls, I stood there and spammed W and it seemed to work :joy:
Overall: Strange yet funny game, I recommend giving it a try.
@bigjigglyproductions @daniel-mak We’re currently working on some gameplay mechanic. Thanks again for playing our game.
@shakedimus Thanks for playing, the game is under development there is plenty more to come.
Good job guys, keep it up
The music was great and the graphics were special, good decision on going with black and white.
I also figured out that you can just go to the far right and spam kick and basically get an infinite score, you can probably fix that somehow :)
I really liked the intro!
To be honsest I didn't really understand what the space button did and why it didn't reduce from the SPACE counter.
The introduction was also nicely done. I enjoyed the graphical style throughout the game.
However, the sprite of the enemies seemed kind of odd, like it didn't fit into this world.
And unfortunately, I have to say that the game lacked a lot in terms of gameplay. This aspect of the game really requires some advancements and polishing. I just kept spamming **W key** and got bored after a while :slight_frown:
After all, congratulations on finishing your first Ludum Dare game! No one said it will be easy to create a game in 72 hours, but you managed to do this, so good job!
Because of that I have to criticize your game in terms of mood and graphics but still, the rest and especially the interpretation of the theme was really good!
Can you also check out my game as well?
Thanks
At first, I kept running out of health too fast, but I realized that's cuz I tried moving. If you stand in place and keep kicking, your score just keeps going up, even without hitting a red guy, and it becomes like a clicker game.
I really appreciated that the water and clouds were animated, and the storyline. Good game!
Gameplay wise I was able to just stand in one spot an kick infinitely and succeed, so that needs some tweaking.
Ideas for improvement:
- Add some 'good guys' to the enemies, so you cannot spam kicks
- Add some diversity to the opponents, some that need to be kicked, others punched.
- It was mentioned I was on a small thing, yet my playground is the full screen width? Perhaps do something with that idea
Game as such is very repetitive and kinda boring after 60s of playing, although with few smart design decisions it can change dramaticaly i.e:
- remove punch and add ability to jump - while you not kicking - your health goes up but 'space' goes down
- randomize more enemies occurence
by doing that you give player an interesting choice - lose life or lose space and lose game?
Of course this is small change and change gameplay completely, and there is plenty of such changes that can improve your game here :)
Overall story was pretty nice and i really liked simplicity of your art and black & white color choice :)
Keep it up - next entry will for sure be better!
* My favorite artstyle! Minimalistic + stickman, really enjoy it!
* Why you opt-out music? Its great for first jam game!
* Cool intro. Firstly I think that you will miss Humor, but intro change my opinion.
* Gameplay pretty simple, but cazual players should like it.
* Great font, can you share .ttf file?
The one thing, I wish the intro cinematic has some "skip/speed up" button. The intro is really interesting but only the first time : D
Well done!
You said that the platform can't carry more than3 enemies but sometimes there were 4 or 5 and nothing happened. More, the health should regenerate after a time but never happen too. Did I miss something ? ^^'
I think you improve the difficulty, we can stay in a position and just spam W to win without using space or lose lives.
Concerning lives, I love the concept of losing lives either on enemies and by using space, quite unique use of the theme/life system.
I like your minimalistic art style, Great job overall :)
I had rated rated this game before you rated my game.
but i forget to leave the comment
There's not much of a game here at the moment, to be honest. I can see what you were going for: a beat-em-up game where you're frantically knocking enemies off a platform to keep it from overcrowding and collapsing. But at the moment, it's too basic and a little unintuitive - I believe I saw you mention in a response that you could click the left or right mouse buttons to increase your attack range, which isn't listed in the controls.
From reading the reviews, though, it looks like you're aware of the gameplay issues and you're planning to update it at some point to improve the experience. Don't let the negative feedback get you down: this game has good potential, it just needs more work than you were able to get done in 72 hours. No shame in that! Keep working on it, take people's feedback into consideration, and I hope to see you back next game jam with an even better (and equally-funny) entry!
nice game for a first one :) got comedy, music and everything!
given its a jam I would expect a little bit better graphics. but hey - the beauty is in the eye of the beholder)
have some high points!!
well, my video will be up either today or tomorrow morning : ) should be part 9

Still, neat idea and take on the theme!
most of my thoughts about the game are pretty much what's already been said; since there wasn't really any diversity with how enemies showed up, you can cheese a big high score by sitting in one place and mashing the attack key constantly.
By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!
However, I feel like you could improve the player's attacks. There seems to be no reason to use a punch since all the enemies take two kicks to kill. My strategy was just to spam kick- which gets old quick. You might want to make enemies get stronger over time, or add more ways to play besides just kicking repeatedly.
funny intro and, as other guys said, maybe a problem is that you only need to spam W hehe
nice work for ur first ludum dare!
However do not be discouraged by what I just said ! I don't want people to feel bad, I just try to make comments that suggest some improvements with constructive critisism (I think they are much more interesting than just "this is fun !"). Anyway, keep practicing, keep participating to game jams, you can only get better this way ! Have a happy gamedev carreer !
Very simple one button game, but a GREAT presentation, VERY polished, the intro with the different tableaus, then the fighting stage with animated background and everything, a morbid theme, good music, crude stick figure drawings, very well done!!!
The only thing that you should improve is the actual game mechanics, i could basically survive without end because i could just kick so fast that noone could ever touch me.
So you should send the others in in a kind of waves to make it more difficult and to give a sense of progression, and to have some ppl that need more than two kicks.

Amazing entry, well polished, graphics are great and the gameplay is quite perfect for a LD game! Great job :)
