Lost by Endurion

[raw]
made by Endurion for LD 42 (COMPO)

You’re lost in another dimension. They are on to you! But to escape you have to fight back the nothing and collect data crystals while doing so. Oh, and obviously they send in their U.F.O. squad as well. Vanquish them as they will rip new holes in the last remnants of your space.

Seems you’re running out of space pretty fast! Can you retrieve all 10 data crystals before getting sucked into the void?

Fun little game, and I appreciate how small the file size is. Good work!

I think this game lacks an indicator of the HP of the player and enemies. The weapon seems is too powerful. But overall I'm liking what you did a good job!

Simple and sweet. The shooting noise is a little annoying- there's really no reason to not hold Z the whole time so you've just got this high pitched scream constantly.

This was a fun game. I liked the use of the theme and how you can shoot to expand the play area once destroyed.

Nice idea. Maybe a force by the projectiles from Z could prevent Holding Z.

Good work with the theme, i like that.
But the sounds of the spaceship shooting, is just so high and frequent that it becomes irritating. Another, less "i'm an old tv, but ten times faster" sound would have been much better.
Also music very nice, when you can hear it.
Maybe it's just me, but the spaceship doesn't really fit the graphics style here.
But overall, nice game!

The game is very fun to play, but the disturbing fire sound doesn't encourage me to shoot))) So I feel like it would be nice to change it or make a little less loud

The weapon seems a bit odd to me (spraying small + feels a bit weird). I guess it's a design choice, but maybe some kind of blast wave would feel more powerful? Apart from that the game look quite good and makes fun! Maybe add a countdown for the next data crystal and increase friction a tiny bit.

Fun little game, one tip I would have would be to have the bullets inherit their initial velocity from the ship, then add their speed. It's a little odd when you can move at the same rate as your freshly fired rounds in my opinion. Other than that great little game!

A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good.
Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)

The shooting sound got annoying rather fast but otherwise it's a pretty solid game.

Solid use of the theme! I really like how you can shoot back the void with your weapon. The sound effect for the shooting did hurt my ears quite a bit, I'd recommend playing that sound a limited number of times when you have a fire rate that high. Good job!

Worked well, felt pretty balanced... strangely gratifying cleaning up the play space

I liked this a lot! Loved the Newtonian physics movement and the fact that you could shoot back the environment.

Cool little game but the shooting sound should be changed. I like the way the clouds are pregressing towards the center it looks really cool!

It's kinda weird that sphaceship's speed isn't added to bullets'. Gameplay is fun and music is great :)

Bullets felt a bit spammy and didn't realize you could shoot the walls away til partway through. Loved the particle effects and the feel of a shrinking game of Asteroids.

Fun game. The fire sound is a little annoying when you hear it all the time and I wish there where lives, game over is too quick

I like the idea. Gameplay is fun, but it would be better if there was some kind of score. Audio is also good. Also bullets could be a bit faster.
Liked the game overall!

Simple but fun, the theme is well implemented. My only criticism would be that the shooting sound effects are too loud. Overall nice job.

Gameplay is fun. Graphics are simple but functional. Who doesn't love particles! Firing sound really detracted from the game for me, had to mute the sound for that one, but is a simple fix if it is something that needs to be changed so only a minor quibble really. I think if the game was more hectic but the crystals showed up quicker I would have enjoyed it just that wee bit more. Great job though!

Have fun out there!

Not much to really add that hasn't been said, but I do want to call out that the controls actually felt a lot nicer than most games of this style for me - the ship floated (as one would expect) but not so much that it was hard to control. Thanks for a fun game!

Really great game. The controls are nice and the graphics too even if they are simple. The fire sound is just too anoying and loud and I ended up muting my computer, sorry !
I would have found even cooler that the borders that became black stay as indestructible and that after a certain time you can not clean them again.
Great work !

Loved this game! Art style is simplistic but still looks pretty cartoony and great. Game concept is very innovative and well executed, the ship feels good to move. Only three tweaks I would make are to change the shooting sound effect, makes bullets move faster, and make the ship rotate quicker. Other then that, this game is fantastic! Great work, keep it up! :)

Game is a lot of fun, brilliant movement controls, matches the theme perfectly, and has some interesting mechanics going on behind the scenes. Personally, I believe that the game could be made more enjoyable if it gave you a score, or some measure of how well you're doing. Overall though, fantastic and fun!

Really nice balance in the game. The rate of progression of the smoke and the spawn rate of the crystals seems just about right to be challenging and the game **didn't** start off too slow.
Did you use any engines or libraries for the game? It isn't too often that I see a game in c++.
Well done!

@lintfordpickle: No library, plain DirectX (8). Just a very very simple clone of my actual engine.

Pretty good game! I didn't really like the turn controls, I thought they were a little too floaty, but aside from that the gameplay was pretty tight.
