Spectr-ace by Tednesday

[raw]
made by Tednesday for LD 42 (JAM)

A game written in my own custom C++ engine.

Salaciously shoot the spectrum of primary colours in this sophisticated spectacle of spectral, spacious satisfaction!

Press Q to change shoot colour.

Press R to reload. Time your reload and Press R again to increase your multiplier. Increasing your multiplier increases your lethality.

Don't let the colours get you!

(I'm aware the presentation looks dreadful)

Would have released for the Compo but didn't want to release the source code.

Beyond the very basic graphic of the game, there's something in the concept that is very clever. I am very curious on how you managed to pull that off in a homemade C++ engine, that's a lot of effort man !
Thinking about the upgrades the player could have to destroy gigantic blob of color expand the whole game mechanics to a new level

I could like the game if the sound effects were better. It put me off. I wonder why you didn't use another sound effect.

Kudos for creating your own engine with a game destructible spheres.

I really enjoyed this. Thought it was going to be the standard "oh no the walls are closing in" but the fact that, its what you do that makes the wall close, and you decide where to shoot to give the right amount of "living space" towards the end is great. And the fact it is using a custom built engine is awesome.

Only issue I had is, I didnt seem to have sound, but other people are mentioning sound :/

And the only thing I would suggest to change would be to remove the reload and have basically infinite ammo, quickening the game up. Its a game I could see myself playing over and over again, if each play through was only a minute or so long.

Great idea. Really enjoyed it. Sound effects could have been better, but overall a really good game, considering it was made in your own engine!

I'm impressed that you made your own engine lol that sounds crazy complicated to do

It didn't really capture me, you nailed the theme but the gameplay was not for me.

Great concept, which fits with the theme very well. Its a shame there is no sound as that would have really helped with immersing the player. I'd suggest changing the colour of the bullets to reflect which colour you can shoot. It might just be me, but I got confused a few times, so making this explicitly clear will help the player.
Also, I noticed that the colour changed on a reload. Was this intentional? It appeared a bit random.

Good luck, Don't forget to take a look at ours if you don't mind and see what it's like when we just focused on graphics in this game jam!
