Big Crunch by LensFlare

[raw]
made by LensFlare for LD 42 (COMPO)

ezgif.com-resize.gif The goal of the game is to escape from collapsing universe.

Use wormholes to travel between galaxies. You can travel only to neighbour galaxy. From the galaxy at top right you can jump to big wormhole that can get you out of collapsing universe. Avoid planets and you have only 4 hits. If you cross collapse border ship will explode. ezgif.com-optimize.gif

Galaxies are generating procedually, so sometimes you just can't win =) Galaxies.png Controls: W - Main thruster A/D - Side thrusters Space - Warp jump (perform when you above wormhole)

Left Mouse Click - Select target galaxy

P.S. Because of enormous amount of unoptimized CPU particles WebGL version lags on Galaxy select view. If it is possible try Windows Standalone version.

This is a great game! I dig the movement mechanics and that you have to make a plan of action right away. Solid stuff! Enjoyed it a lot!

Great game! I wanted to make sure to find this one after a beautiful gif you posted on the blog

Lovely postprocessing effects, and piloting such a weighty ship is really fun. The music was also really charming and helped give the experience a more joyful feeling when it could have been too serious otherwise.

Solid concept! I liked the shrinking galaxies, gave the whole thing a race against the clock feeling.

Best title screen, the controls felt a little clumsy but the graphics and audio were really good. They did cause quite a bit of lag on the web version so maybe some optimizations if you were to take the game further.

Cool graphics and good presentation overall, but the gameplay is a little bit confusing

The whole package including the art and audio really works well. It took me a little while to get used to the mouse position = zoom thing but I really enjoyed it and it looks incredible.

It looks really good. Why don't you change the turning speed?

The start of the game is really gorgeous, you really pushed yourself there, and it's kinda disapointing when you start the game to see that the quality isn't the same. The music is great although it gets messy at the beginning.
The control of the ship is cool and limited.
The idea could be awesome in a larger scaled game.
Nice work man !

WOW great visual effect and music! Very enjoyable! It is a little difficult to control but overall, great job!

I was really confused that I kept warping into new systems already out-of-bounds and dying. But the general idea is refreshing and fun. Execution is pretty great (good sense of urgency and jumping between macro & micro goal) and you knocked it out of the park on aesthetics. Great job overall!

Can't believe we used the same big crunch theme:D We even used the same name :D I found this game while I was just thinking why there is a 1 at the end of my game page url :D Your game is much better than mine even though I wasn't able to play that much because of low fps on WebGL. Maybe you could make a version without particles?

This is a beautiful game execution, and I do mean BEAUTIFUL (those graphics doe). The only note I have is the spawn points probably shouldn't be random, or if they are, at least move them inward based on the collapse line, because sometimes I would warp an spawn outside the line and died instantly, other than that this is a stellar entry. (Pun intended)

@wolderado don't worry I found at least 2 more guys with the same game title on LD42 😀
Try windows standalone version, it works much better

@fizzpowmike1 there is thin line between replayable and unplayable when you create procedural levels in ludum dare 🙂 I totally agree that it was not great idea 😉

Haha cool concept! I really enjoyed this game. Not sure if this is intentional to make you plan your path, but I went to a galaxy that I thought had a wormhole in it, but it turns out it was just my ship that I could already see in there and there was no wormhole so I just had to kill myself lol. Great game though, good graphics. Oh and the music was a little loud for me and I didn't see any volume controls in game, but I probably just missed it lol

Wasn't lucky enough with several attempts but I love the vfx and idea in general.

Definitly deserved a few tries. Unfortunately the warp seems a little bit weird and unfair, i spawned way off the middle and hadnt even a chance to avoid the void. Nethertheless the design was quite awesome and the soundtrack as well as the sounds were fitting and atmospheric.

Nice title screen, VFXs and music. The spaceship turning speed may be a little slow. I think the space reducing should stop when the player is in warp. I died a few time while warping.

Awesome visuals, sometime it made me "sea-sick" when I was rotating too fast. Nice music background. Maybe you should add some score or something like that.

@lensflare Tried your game and really liked the graphics and the idea of the game is pretty good but found a bit tough with the controls maybe because the spaceship took time to move.Do try our game too and share your experience in comment box.

Very beautiful game! The title screen was awesome, and I loved the particle effects. It all felt very lively. I think you had a great idea with the gameplay, but the mechanics felt kind of clunky and could have been tested more. A good amount of the time as soon as I warped I would die because I would spawn in the next galaxy already at the edge. I would have liked to have spawned in the middle of each galaxy each time so that wouldn't happen. Overall, nice entry!

cool, I was surprised when I pressed the space to go another galaxy, also the graphics are very cool.

Neat idea, and quite pretty, but seriously hampered by the balance of the procedural generation. I didn't win any of the times I tried, and it was often because the wormholes were obscured by planets, or so close to the edge that by the time I got there, they were already gone. Maybe the WebGL version just has bad luck or something, but...that was my experience. I know the Windows version is recommended, but I'm a Linux user, so WebGL was my only option.

The graphics are quite pretty, though! The ship actually having RCS thrusters for turning, and obeying some semblance of physics was definitely a nice touch. The music's pretty decent too.
