Great Deal by sunnray

made by sunnray for LD 40 (JAM)

Have you ever wanted to play as a miserable clerk in an antiutopian world with no bright future? No? Well, you are here anyway, so why don't you try it now!

Features: - money! - weird boxes that all look the same! - clients that you don't really care about so you don't even look them in the eyes!

Will you get a promotion to the higher worker ranks or will you rot at your place forever? Let's find out!

Actual features: - ingame tutorial - background music - movable objects - express you feelings with your own ingame hand!

Give people the product in exchange for their money. Or don't. Game has 3 endings, that you get after a long hard day of 60 seconds.

Controls:

LMB to click and/or move objects

RMB to change fingers

Esc for the menu

Have fun! cover.png

Other, boring stuff:

The initial story in my head was more straight forwardly connected to the theme: you collect money and become more alienated (well, your skin becomes green), and eventually get your invitation to the higher ranks of other alienated people (maybe they just eat that money? you know, they are greenish and the money is green, so.. hmm yeah I'll stop now). So, the more you have it, the worse you become. Otherwise, if you don't make money like you are supposed to, you can get to know people from the resistance and even join them. The final version of the game doesn't include most of this stuff, but it still has the "invitation" ending.

Now onto the possible issues: - the money ending is probably hard to achieve - you can ignore the customers, but are obligated to dismiss at least one before the ending guy can show up

I love the idea! I love the theme of how money corrupts.

Nice spin on this type of game and cool aesthetics. I feel that it was maybe a little full on intense straight away though.

This instantly reminded me of Papers, Please. I really like the addition of different hand "emotions", though I'm not really sure what they did. I only know I didn't want to raise my middle finger, so switching to a pinky-and-thumb combination wasn't possible for me. The music really reflects the mood as well, and the ending screens are nice to read as well. I only achieved the same ending however, even when I gave everyone products while grabbing the money. Is there some secret underground hand gesture they use over there, which I don't know of? Anyways, there are a couple of slight bugs here and there, like grabbing the money if you move the cursors over it while holding a product, but nothing gamebreaking. If you make these days a bit longer, have more ridiculous stuff clogging up your workspace, I think this could be turned into a pretty funny game!

Instantly reminded me of Papers,Please. Great use of minimal art assets to tell establish the mood and tone. I would like to see the actual evaluation of my work at some point. Cool submission.

I have really no idea what is happening in the game.

Ha, I like the reminders The Worker wrote for himself! Love the simple but detailed visuals, and it's pretty funny reading the emotions of the customers through their hand movement -- when I gave one the finger on accident his hand just backs off slowly. lol. Music is weird but it fits well with the mood. Good work.

As you say in the description, the game feels a bit unfinished, but it's an interesting concept and different from the things that we're used to play. I played it a few times and liked a lot the idea of expressing my feelings with my fingers :D

As someone mentioned this is a papers please little game. But, the gameplay is kind of boring (after having fun with the fingers). I always got stuck on the evaluation (is that an ending, cause I tried working as fast as I could with no further result). The idea is nice but it lacks expression.

A fun and funny game, but a bit short to be satisfying. I'd like to see a full version someday!

The idea seems very cool, I just wished you would've taken it further.

Maybe in a post-LD version

It's a start, but a good one ! The graphics are nice, and the music reflects the ambiance pretty well. I hope you'll take it further.
