Gouf & Goblins by ErikU

Welcome, Your Majesty, to the fine game of Gouf. It's quite the hoard of treasure you've brought along with you - best keep an eye on it... I hear there are goblins around.

Gouf & Goblins is a mashup between golfing games and tower defence. Hit your ball to where you'd like to place your tower, then build up and watch as the goblins below are decimated!

Objective

Survive six minutes. The difficulty will increase every minute. After 3 minutes they will begin spawning additionally on the other side of the field - watch out for this!

Thank you for playing!

Apologies to web players for the bright colour space - the web version can't have the linear colour space that the desktop does, fixing the blowout.

Great use of the theme! I really liked the soundtrack and had fun for the first few minutes, but the web player started bogging down shortly before the second line of gobblers started coming. I tried to download the Windows version, but it looks like your link is down (https://itch.io/ is a good site to upload to).

@drprettypatty Thanks for the heads up. I've re-uploaded. Google had mistakenly identified it as containing a virus and removed it.

Lol great fun! Getting into the hole should be worth more but the mashup was fantastic. Performance issues were pretty bad though.

Wow, detailed tutorial and everything! The complexity and fresh idea is really enjoyable on your game. Only i misplaced towers that goblins run past the towers was my bad haha. Definitely an impressive game for only 48h, good job eriku!

Impressive in only 48h ! Good tutorial and the mashup is fun :D

However, in webgl version the FPS drops really fast even with a good laptop and is almost unplayable ... :-/

I didn't understand how i win, just build some towers and enemies get to treasures but i won ...

Music is really nice as well, great job !

Great music! Survived to the goblins coming from the other side. A little hard to get perspective on the towers and the enemies at the same time but all the core concepts of a golf / tower defense are there.

Nice tutorial mode. I found the game play it a bit hard.

Definitely one of the more unique combinations I've seen so far, fortunately it's also one of the more fun! And an interactive tutorial is also really nice to see (even I only had time for a couple of screenshots with text on them you need to skip past to play :slight_frown:)

Like I do for most games, I'm just going to have a few comments for little bugs/ideas I think would make it better, please don't take this to think I didn't like your game (I did! It was great! I pinky swears!) but I'm just excellent at nitpicking:
- This is the graphic designer in me talking (there's a lot of different things in me, but I don't always let them out), but the font you use for tutorial text is great for titles and such, but for larger amounts of text it's not the most readable
- There were a few times I tried to build a tower but it said I was too close to an enemy pathing node - maybe you could show those visually as sandtraps or something so I know where I can't build just by looking
- The music - maybe you shouldn't listen to me because plenty of people say they like it, but I actually found it so grating I had to turn off my speakers - seems to me like the sort of thing that would work great for an action stage in an 8-bit platformer, but doesn't really sound golf-y or medieval-y to me. (But as I said - other people liked it. So you should probably just ignore me.)
- I was playing extra at the end, and either the gold display was wrong or I was getting a severe discount on my towers, because the number on the gold display only went down by 4 when I built the big ones
- Just a thought, but maybe you could make it so if you hit a goblin with the golf ball, it hurts them? Could come in handy if your towers are getting a bit overwhelmed and you're just waiting for enough gold to build more

But like I said - those are just minor things, and I'm a major nitpicker. Overall, it was great!

A formidable amount of content and game here for only 48 hours -- well done!

Learning the game was a little difficult -- the tutorial text was instructive and funny, but there was a lot of it and I sometimes lost the context for what I was trying to do. For instance, it wasn't clear where to place the towers initially; so I placed them around the green, but it seemed like the goblins would just run around them.

I won, but there were still a lot of goblins, but I won! Even though I placed a bunch of towers around the hole at first and then they avoided all of them.. I think knowing their path would have helped.

This is one of the more unique submissions I've seen so far! I really enjoyed the golf mechanic to move the player around, and I thought the music was great as well. Something that I think the game would benefit from would be better visual cues when you are about to move your player, and maybe something for the enemy destruction as well. I also would like to be able to pan up and down with my camera, the vision felt a bit limited when on top of a constructed tower. This was a very unique and fun submission overall, good work!
