- Arc Boss - Sternum vs The DDDmension Faries by ElusiveMilestone
I had an account in the old site, but unfortunately I couldn't use it to access to site. Anyway, I did a game for a MiniLD called "Arcabouço". You played as a Skeleton named Sternum and had to fight some zombies.
I wanted to try make another game with Sternum, so I decided to participate in this edition of Ludum Dare. The theme surprised me and I couldn't think of any incompatible gameplay mechanics that I could make fast. Then I saw someone posting about Babymetal and it gave me an idea: I could make a game where two different art genres, 2D and 3D, clashed.
So here's my game! ArcBoss mix 8-bit 2D artsyle with 3D models. I did the game alone with some help from my friends. I hope you guys like it!

I like the idea of bringing 3d invaders into a highscore arcade game, and the music and feel match up with that idea. However, I think I found a problem with the enemy design. I just parked myself in the bottom right corner and nothing could get past my sword. I played until I got the 5400 points screenshotted above, then suicided because I was bored and the difficulty wasn't going up. Things got a bit strange after a while - fairies would crash into each other on their own and score large domino chains and by the end I had three fairies that were just kind of flapping around in the foreground instead of descending on the stage. Regardless, good work!
Thanks for the feedback! I hope you had fun playing my game :)
Until I ended up in the corner, which ironically felt nothing like being cornered.
piscythe has already mentioned the bugs he encountered when exploiting the game that way, so I won't go into detail. I like that you chose art genres instead of mechanics, though I feel the marriage could have been a little more interesting... Other than that, art's pretty alright, and the music choice is pretty frickin' great. Good job, overall!
Nice entry!
One big complaint I have is that the high score doesn't save 😟! After restarting, it just goes back to zero. Kinda beats the purpose. Also, the fairy sound effect when you hit them gets a little repetitive. Perhaps when a pink fairy spawns from the top, you could reuse the laughing sound from the intro cutscene, just to vary.
Albeit, the game's good features outweigh the bad. Apart from the issues already mentioned in other comments, the game is addictive and fun. Well done
The music and sound effects were nice too. I like the simple controls and they worked well. I would have liked though if the player would do a "slash" attack striking upwards and then in front so that you could attack the invaders above aswell when jumping + slashing instead of dying.
Also having the ability to dropdown to the platforms below would have been nice in this type of game when the enemies come at a more rapid phase.
Overall very well implemented game and a lot of fun!
