Bleach Beach by Steffo

Welcome to Bleach Beach!

The sea is draining, and you have been assigned the task of catching the most fish possible before the water is gone. However, BotBoat Corp is competing with you: be careful of them, as they may resort to shady tactics, or surprise them by stealing the fish on their boats.

Move with the A and D keys, use your jetpack with W, aim your cannon with the mouse and shoot your harpoon by holding the left mouse button.

All boats feature a grappling hook, a recharging jetpack and a storage space for the caught fish.

Fish Stack

Fish roam the sea, waiting to be caught by someone...
After getting on a ship, they can be stolen by hitting the fish stack with an harpoon.
Large fish are worth double!

Liked the idea and graphics. Game is pretty fun to play but sometimes you just get stuck in the wall and have to restart. Nonetheless, these graphics are amaizing.

These are some of the best graphics I've seen this jam. Good work.
Somehow I got stuck 3 times in a row and couldn't move very well.
Still very engaging and fun little game. Good job!

At first I was confused as to what to do, got the hang of it, get fish.

I love the art style, the physics are strange but can be twisted to aid you can be quite fun.

Overall: good entry.

Alos, @edgelord I have Mac/Linux builds avalible: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/we-need-space

@edgelord An experimental WebGL build is now available! Please play it in full-screen mode, or the interface and the camera will get messed up, as it wasn't planned during development. :stuck_out_tongue:

I really like the hand-drawn visuals you have here. Everything was coherent and there were a lot of tiny details. The idea of a boat having a grappling hook and jetpack cracks me up. Very inventive and it works well. I wish you had added some sound effects, as I think that could really add to the experience. Overall though, great job!

I liked the artstyle, and the concept was interesting, a harpoon sound woudld've been perfect there ^^
I downloaded the windows version, but it seemed like the WebGL version wasn't integrated in the page
If I didn't make any mistake (and the game wasn't on the page), make sure you choose on your project (in itch.io->dashboard->edit below the project)
Kind of project: HTML
And below the .zip that contains the WebGL build (with index.html and all), mae sure to check "This file will be played in the browser".
Ignore this if it was my mistake though, good luck :)

@inferture I did that when I first added it, but then I saw that itch wouldn't allow the player to go fullscreen, and since without fullscreen the interface is pretty buggy, I decided it would be better to just provide the HTML5 page download. Thanks anyways! ^^

The sketchy art style looks great. There wasn't loads of gameplay, but hitting stuff hard and getting hit hard is always enjoyable.

Attracted by the simple black/white sketch art style! the game play is a little bit strange. The physics is a little bit hard to understand and handle...Maybe considering to reduce some mechanism to focus on just one... But please keep the art style. That is pretty cool for me~

The game, the art, the pysics are fun, here is a tutorial on how to make itchio support webgl (i'm not sure about it but you seems to have issue with it)

@miracl It's intended, I'd like players to prioritize the Windows version if possible because the WebGL version was built after the end of the jam and contains some interface bugs.

Hah, I really liked this game, not only did it fit the theme well in its own way, but it was also simple and the art was very well done.

It remembered me to Echo from Sega. You must watch it. I thougth that I could use the arpoon to attach to places, that would be cool :) . I loved the graphics!! and it was quite funny xD.

I really like the graphics! And how the physics really didn't bother trying to imitate our world. I forgot to bother about the aim of the game, just having fun with it until probably half of the timer, then I started capturing fish. The other boats got stuck upside down to the far right, but I didn't really mind that too much.

The hand drawn art is great, and I loved how you you introduced the moving mechanic; forcing the player to know how to move to move to the start of the game. The shooting/physics/gameplay was a little lacking in my opinion, but it was very nice to look at!

Actually, @sensei 's original idea included the attaching harpoon, but we discarded it when we changed the physics code, since the original one was [a bit bugged](https://gfycat.com/ArcticThriftyCurassow). :P

### What's good
- I really like the **graphic style**.
- I like the **details in the surrounding**.

### What could be better
[*General*]
- Everything could feel more "snappy". Atm the **game feels very floatish**, which suits the fact that the boat swims but doesn't help the gameplay.
- The **physics** were interesting but I think a bit over the top. For example pulling in fish shoots my boat around which is really distracting. Maybe remove that effect - generally I like a bit wonky physics.
- Some catchy **background music** would really help.
- Something to **indicate where I should move** to not get stuck on land would be nice.
- The **enemy boats** were mainly an unwelcome distraction for me. They didn't have a huge impact on what I did other than annoy me and when they touched me I got shot into the air.

[*Bugs / Gameplay breaking*]
- Fish clipped behind the environment.
- Enemy boats got stuck.

I would suggest either removing the enemy boats and going all in on the fishing aspect or really fleshing them out. They need a more major impact on the gameplay. I'd also love to be able to use the harpoon as a grappling hook and maybe allow the player to dive deeper into the water. I think the mechanic of popping in and out of water is interesting and has great potential.

With all that said, I think there is a place for a fast paced hardcore fishing game with exaggerated physics ;) Congratulations on the entry.

Love the art style and the concept is pretty cool! There were some wonky physics that almost helped me get out of my little fishing hole I was trapped in. Nonetheless, I somehow won with 16 fish! LOL

It looks absolutely beautiful, but I didn't really feel like the other boats were actually relevant in the slightest. They'd occasionally bump into me, throwing me into the air and flipping my boat, but never seemed to actually catch a fish. It'd also be quite nice to see a count of the fish caught, maybe in place of the timer which IMO isn't that useful as the water level is a good enough indicator of that.

The graphics are very appealing and I kind of liked the gameplay but it wasn't easy so there would be some way to make it a bit more approachable. A game about fighting boats would also be a lot cooler than just competing for fish. Good job nonetheless!
