Living Space by Timbals

[raw]
made by Timbals for LD 42 (COMPO)

// ludum dare entry description

You run your own planet. Your goal is to make the planet bigger by injecting rocks into it. The people that live on this planet require living space to be happy.

You loose if you run out of space that the people can use. You gain resources by picking up rocks that have been left behind by asteroids and by sending rockets to harvest resources.

You have to purchase a gun and shoot the alien spaceships to prevent them from stealing mass.

Version 1.1: - fixed a crash that prevented playing the game - removed web version for being too unstable

Controls

A - move to left
D - move to right
E - interact/purchase item
C - open shop
SPACE - shoot upwards (after purchasing a gun)

Interesting take on the theme. At first I thought I needed to deposit the rocks in order to purchase things, so I was wondering why I couldn't buy a gun or rocket because I never had enough rocks. Once I realized it was one or the other, the game became much more clear. I enjoyed the game, nice work. The music got a little repetitive after a few minutes though. Congrats on finishing!

This game reminds me a lot of Defender, but with a really interesting twist. Nice execution of the theme!

I really liked the idea. I wish the shooting was more of a feature because im pretty sure it becomes impossible to get enough rocks fast enough at a certain point. However I really liked the music and the feel of the game. Really good job!

nice idea and a good implementation but the shoping UI could have been bigger and also you could have spend some more time on the graphics I think but overall its a nice game.

Idea is nice, but this game needs a little balances in the shop system, because it's really hard to keep planet undamaged and buying stuff in shop. Otherwise, it's very nice entry. Good job!

Really nice game idea. Increasing the size of your planet felt really good.

The idea with growing and shrinking playnat is so cool. I thought the alians stream would kill me.Would be a cool addition! Like it. Also the art!

Cool concept, I like how the game gets harder the more rocks you put into the planet but also necessary to not lose the game

The idea is pretty promising, there is a lot you could add on top of that to polish for the post-jam version I think

Good job! I like the graphics, and the idea is well done! It is really hard to take care of the planet though, especially later in the game. It definitely fits the theme, and it is pretty fun! The audio is simple, but it works fine that way! Overall, great job!

Cheers!
