Hoop Tactics by MonstermanMFR
For my first ever Ludum Dare submission, I present to you Hoop Tactics!

Hoop Tactics is a Turn-Based Basketball Game. The first team to score 12 points wins the game. You play as the purple team with your hoop on the left side while the blue team has their hoop on the right side. While playing offense you can Move and Shoot or Pass once per turn. On Defense you can Move and attempt to steal the ball once per turn.
To advance turns you must select each character and do their actions or end their turn. After this the other team will take their turn. This game was heavily inspired by old school tactical RPG's.

I feel like I learned a lot from making this project and I hope you enjoy checking it out. Thanks!
Controls:
W,A,S,D - Move cursors Enter - Select Players, Menu Items E - End all Player Turns
Good Luck!

I won 12-0 because I am a master Basketball player and the AI did not want to shoot much even if I stopped guarding them. I think if you made a full version you would need to add some sort of additional mechanics and stats for blocking, guarding, stealing, and the like. :)
Cool that you have finished and working base product.
If you decide to continue with the game after LD, all you have to do is adding some more options to the ingame menu and some more baseball mechanics, like guarding, intercepting a ball if there is enemy player on the balls pass (raycast) and so on...
Also having individual stats for the players and some training room and/or shop to buy upgrades for the team (say, better chance for stealing the ball, or better chance for shooting, or extra rush movement tile once per game... you name it)... as well as some sort of championship to earn some points/cash to spent in the above shop/training room - would be nice!
Another nice addition, after all we have turn-based tactics game, would bee showing in game chances to the player: say, I have selected my payer with the ball and wanna make a pass, so I'd like to see chances of successful pass above other teammates, so I can have a pseudo-filling of having control over the situation and wise decision-making.
Also enemy AI needs to have some reworking (I have won 12:4) and it was not that challenging.
Anyway it was fun playing your game. It could be made into something big!
Constructive criticism below:
- Music little bit repetitive (not anoying but certainly too short)
- Impossible actions should be grayed out (if you cannot move any more - Move should not be visible or grayed out)
- Should have some kind of "action point" counter - so you know what you can do in your turn
- AI movement should be more 'visual' - now you can barely see what it did
- End Turn button would be nice - should end all other players turns
- Players with move should be shown somehow (outline?) or players without move - grayed out
- Chances for pass or shoot should be shown - it give you more immersive experience and would greatly improve your ability to do "tactics" - now it's kinda pure luck for me :)

Cheers!
It took me quite a while to get how to play, at first I was very slow, but finally I could begin scoring and it was fun.
I agree with @Bartosz on his points of improvement. I was a bit confused about what I could or couldn't do at first. Graphical informations would be great.
Anyway this is a good game and I enjoyed it!

I really liked the mechanics.
I would like it to have a clearer mark (at least for me) of who belongs to my team (maybe I have a hard time separating people visually).
The presence of small marker icons to know who has already done what would be welcome (especially if it was enabled by a button to not be polluting the screen if the person is a bit better memory and such). Example: pressing the "X" button will mark the icons of who can still move etc, for five seconds. Or while holding the "X".
In some games there are tips on how many percent chance to hit certain actions, this can make the person want or not risk doing some actions (this would depend on greater knowledge of the game itself, to know what can be difficult or not; and it would also depend on having different abilities for different characters).
I liked the graphics too. :)
