Horny Demons by Team Infernus

Survive the day to day grind while sacrificing your prisoners to the horned ones.

About

Horny Demons is a deck building game in which you must gather resources in order to summon demons and gain their power. Keep up appearances as a normal, productive member of society until you can summon the horniest of the horny. There's also a cameo of the succubus from our main game as one of the greater demons.

How to Play

You start each turn with a new hand of five cards. Click and drag up to three cards each turn to the pentagram to play them. You lose 1 Food plus 1 Food per Prisoner each turn, so make sure to stock up. You lose when you run out of Food. When you gather enough resources, you can summon demons by offering the supple bodies of your prisoners as tribute. Collect powerful cards from the demons as you work your way up the demonic food chain, from lesser to greater to Satan herself.

Content Warning

This is a game about a cult that takes prisoners and sacrifices them to demons. Do not base your real life relationships on a video game sex cult.

Well, feel sorry for your game is so undone. But your post about it definitely catch my eye)

Nice card mechanics, reminds me of Cultist Simulator :)

I like the risque theme and the level of polish in the gameplay!

One small visual tweak would be to add margins around the play areas so that the decks don't touch the edge of the screen (see [beware of tangents](https://schweizercomics.tumblr.com/post/11966164633/the-schweizer-guide-to-spotting-tangents)).

Tag me if you end fixing the event deck (seems allowed as per the rules) and I'll give it another shot!

Great work :)

Nice core base of a game here. Would like to see it developed further.

Played your previous game so I was curious about this one. The mechanics are there, so good work on that! Though as mentioned the lack of ending/reward left me a bit unsatisfied. But good effort anyway :)

I am not sure if this has been noted, but at least with the kidnap and mutate cards, they don't decrement the action counters. Unless that's intended?

Pity you can't progress with the "demon chain" as you pointed, would be cool to see a post-LD version!
And hey... our game isn't winnable either so... we're cool :D

fun game at first, but it got a little repetetive after a while, where no new cards were showing up et cetera.
The art is really nice, too.

Once you understand the flow, it becomes quite satisfactory just to hoard for resources.

Hey there. I've played your games on previous jams, and said "why the heck not?", let's continue with the trend. And I am pleasantly surprised. Despite the progression glitch, this is quite well balanced, satisfying and even addicting. If the progression actually worked, I'd call it your team's best game to date. What can I say? I'm a sucker for card games and resource management. It has a lot of growth potential.

Here's hoping you can sort out the glitches in the system. It's quite disappointing reading that there's a lot, and finding that it's blocked at the very first step. [Our team](discord.whalesandgames.com) is looking forward to seeing the finished product. Do ping us if it gets tweaked. Cheers! :whale:

Shame it can't be won, but I found myself sucked in for quite a while trying to get all my resources as high as possible.
Couldn't quite find a good use for relics, since the exchange to get them tended to be the same as what you'd get back for using them. But I'm assuming there would have been more uses further along the demon progression.
Great entry!

Thank you all for the comments, and for trying out the game! A lot of you were asking about the demon progression, so we wanted to let you know that we just uploaded a version with it and the event deck fixed. You can win the game now!

@itsn8 Thanks for letting us know, it was definitely not intentional. We've now fixed that in this new version.

@primitive-concept You're correct. Relics are primarily used to summon upper tier demons.

I did catch a few bugs (such as the returning wageslave card costing prisoners instead of adding them, and the 'draw 5 cards from your discards and take 3 more actions' demon effect permanently removing my hand), but the game itself fits the theme to a T and does a good job of scratching that 'resource management' itch.

I'd love to see it with some added polish down the line. Overall, good entry!

I stopped getting any cards on day 20 and lost shortly after as a result, but this is quite a fun game! The resources are fun to juggle around without being tedious, and the choices of optional event cards and demon cards feel nicely meaningful. EDIT: it seems to stop giving me cards after i take bank heist.

@heartless @loadsofmana Thanks for letting us know! We're probably going to do a post-LD build later this week, and we'll try to catch some more of these bugs for that.

Amusing game! I stopped receiving cards, but also noticed the "Summon Greater Demon" card just didn't work...

I've never been interested in deck building games but the theme was definitely eye catching so I had to give it a shot! I ended up find it really addictive honestly. The concept and theme is really good and I like the way it plays on the concept of "sacrifice" both in terms of decision making and literal ritual sacrifice. Clever game, very entertaining, definitely interested in checking out some similar games now! The only setback is the greater demon card issue you mentioned, but it's not make or break! Keep it up :smiling_imp:

Reminds me a bit of Cultist Simulator.
While playable (even with the bugs) I think some improvements could be made to the UI for clarity.
Both the event cards an the left and the demon cards on the right are bit unintuitive to interact with. I thought they were just information for quite some time and was confused as to what they do. Only after several turns did I notice that I could click them.
Otherwise, well done.

I like the idea, but it's rough around a couple edges and would benefit from a tutorial and better UI. The goal isn't clear, and I lost a couple times before I realized each prisoner ate food. (Great idea and makes sense, but there's no indication of that). There's also no representation of how many cards are in your deck. And once you have an engine going, it's just a matter of playing until you draw all the cards you need.

Totally need some UI improvement as guys above mentioned, especially when there's card game going on, so there's very little visual clues what does what. I played your last jam game and very much liked the artstyle and overall adult direction you took. This one did not let me down, very nice take on the theme, I didn't even mind that consequences of some plays weren't really clear from the beginning (looking at you, Search Warrant!), that made the exploration part possible and fun. Well, I guess that the Cultist Simulator is fair comparison. Of course the realization of the implicit drawbacks of some cards set the theme nicely. I will remember to keep an eye on you for the next jams, so far you keep me interested and entertained! Very much thank you for that!

Just one balancing feedback - I found myself drawning in food (still up around 50 or so) and barely ever under 15 money, just so you know, if that's desirable by design.

Running out of food (prisoners need food every turn) and having too much overdue rent will cause a game over. Sacrifice prisoners to summon demons and you won't have as many mouths to feed.

@honey Summoning Satan will drain your food quickly (15+ prisoners eat a lot). Stocking up a lot of food is still fairly easy though if you aren't kidnapping people. We figured that it would be ok for there to be an easier way to play the game, since people who want to play more competitively can attempt more risky plays in order to summon Satan in as few turns as possible.

When I saw the theme for the first time, I immediately remembered about "Reigns", but then I thought - "If I won't have anything to add to the game, it would just be a rip-off".
Sadly, I feel the same about this game. It is basically "Underhand" which was great and innovative, but the game adds nothing to it and it feels bad.
Your art is great, theme is at spot, but the game provides nothing new to already existing concept, which I find really sad.

Nice deck game, it seems to be well balanced. Like the sacrifice part and that we have to be careful to not have too many prisoners eating our food.

I found this game quite fun, with the excellent illustrations for actions (especially the mundane ones like working and shopping and, of course, the random demon illustrations) adding a lot! I would enjoy it more if playing cards "felt" better. Like, e.g. having them burn up instead of just disappear.

Really well-done game, it's a bit slow though, we got to round 100 which took over 30 minutes, and then died of starvation before being able to make the final summon. It was a really slow buildup and I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get to see Satan :') But still, great job!
