THEME: Running Out Of Space

Drive around and pick up kids waiting at their bus stops. Afterwards get them to school before time runs out by ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

CONTROLS:

WASD - Control Bus Movement

Mouse - Camera Look Around

Left Control - Drift

Left Shift - Boost

Space - Hard Brake

ScrollWheel - Zoom Minimap In/Out

The bus you are driving is actually a multilevel bus. You can only fit a certain amount of kids on each level. This means you will have to go to the school and drop some off when the bus gets full. This is indicated in game with the Bus Overlay on the side of the screen. To make it easier look up in the sky or on your mini-map for either the yellow X or the giant exclamation mark.

Connection To Theme: The Bus's Levels EJECT off after each round resulting in your bus having less space and making you take multiple trips to the school.

Haha! Funny game. Love the idea and physics and the fact that you can drive into anything. At first I was just running over the kids then realized that aint right and I had to stop near them to pick them up. Tough game, but really fun! Good work!

Fun game! The controls were a bit too slippery - I think it would have been more fun if stopping and drifting was easier.
Overall though, it was a fun challenge to beat!

I don't want to stop because this game was a blast! sadly I am a horrible bus driver... and i destroyed just about every house... and maybe killed a few kids... Really though this game is amazing. Great concept executed in perfect stupidity. maybe a bit to hard...

I really enjoyed the overall mechanic of the bus losing parts. I wish the school was a different color or more noticeable because the first few times I played it I was looking for a green indicator. I love how the houses fall apart and how the fire hydrants explode. I kinda wish the bus was more responsive but I know that can be hard to mess with with drifting and boosting. It was really fun to play and such a good job for a 72 hour game. I wish I implemented as much detail as you did with the scenery :)

Pretty realistic bus driving simulation, i liked it :)

Funny game, I kept crashing into every house just for fun, haha. The graphics are very funny and goes well with the mood, music and UI of the game. Controls area a little unresponsive at times and I wish the concepts were explained gradually through gameplay instead of through the tutorial screens but otherwise I liked it, nice work!!

haha very cool little game. I like the destructible environment. It took my a bit to figure out that I needed to take them to the school but I prevailed. Good job! Check out mine.

Where's the school? Oh no! I'm not going to make it. I am a terrible driver. The entire neighbourhood was destroyed in searching for that school. Was pretty certain I ran over some kids, until I noticed they entered the bus :P.

Pretty fun game. Polished visuals and the soundtrack works well with the game. The grade/report card UI is a nice touch. Great job.

This game was too funny. I was just destroying the environment.

Great looking game with good music, and the silly physics work nice. I just wish the game wasn't so buggy! Sometimes there were not enough, or just no kids to pick up on the map while the UI clearly said and believed that there were.

The minimap isn't that usefull and would be better if it covered the whole map.

Fun little game, reminds of the older arcade games where you have a time limit to complete an objective (as main mechanic). The bus controls apart from the braking felt pretty good, I liked driving around with the bus and destroying half of the village while i was at it :D

The braking mechanic could use some work, it feels slippery :)
And after the third level? the game sort of bugs. But if you incorperate the planned features, this could be even more of a blast :D

Brilliant. I wasn't expecting to be able to drive through all the buildings and trees, which made for a nice surprise. The minimap was a nice touch, and I really appreciated the balloons marking the bus stops towards the end of each run.

The music is great, but the lack of sound effects makes the bus feel oddly quiet. Some simple crash and screeching sound effects would make a huge difference.

To all those commenting after this A post ludum dare version of the game has recently been uploaded. Its Version 1.0.3! This should make a lot of things in the game easier

NOTE: This review is based on the post ludum dare version 1.0.3

Fun game, I love how the environment is completely destructible and nothing slows you down! Except for the bumpy farmland, I managed to get completely stuck there... All the UI is a nice touch, being able to see how full the bus is and where the kids are really helped. While the minimap was really cool, I will admit I didn't really use it. It might be more useful if it was more zoomed out. I did notice that I kept having a ton of missing kids every mission, even though I went to all the markers on the map and delivered every kid. Is this a bug, or am I missing something? Really good stuff for a ludum dare game (give or take a few days for the updates). My main gripes are the complete lack of sound (other than one song that gets kinda grating) and the floaty bus controls, though I understand that sort of thing is difficult to get just right, especially for a game jam game.

First and foremost, you have made a driving game where you can actually destroy the trees! Bravo! I love how almost everything is destructible in this game, its so cathartic. The audio felt a little repetitive, but that is really my only gripe with the game loved this one!

Original idea and nice execution :D The game is really fun to play. I mean, exploding things is always fun, but the game makes it fluid and even more enjoyable.

Well played!

The graphics are excellent (I like minimalism). Just why does that drift work strange. I just turn better. Great job.

Ah this was really fun. Nice graphics and physics. I wish I could have played with a controller though. I think you could really add to this to make it even crazier, opening it up to a city bus and whatnot. Great job. I really enjoyed it!

Really nice car physics. :D
It was really funny to destroy everything. But the Cows have a really sad ending. Their body parts tear apart ...
But at the end I had one problem. I don't know if you fixed it in later Version, because I've only played the original LD submission. At the end when you have again all you bus houses on you I have not found a single child. D: So I was only in chaos mode and destroyd every house. xD

Very fun game. I love how you can destroy everything in the environment. The brakes on the bus could have been a little more powerful. Sometimes, pressing S or Space bar didn't feel like it was going to stop the bus.

Overall, Great job!

Fun game, I particularly had a lot of fun running through everything in a mad dash to the school. I only with that the bus was a bit more responsive

Fun game. I really liked the idea of that mega-school bus with many floors.
I enjoyed the music and I think it helps building up the fun mood, but I also believe that having more SFX would accentuate the mood a LOT. (I'm an audio person, though, so I might be a bit biased about that, haha)
Nice 3D cows, btw.

Nice game! It would be nice if some things had a sound effect, like the kids going up the bus or dying :stuck_out_tongue: The slippery controls could be like that on purpose and the things getting wrecked were a nice touch.

@jazmin-giolito @irhileth Thank you for playing Our game! Sound Effects are definitely something that we always struggling with. We plotted out plenty of time for adding them in our planning stage. However very few of the sounds we produced sounded right so with got rid of most of them. Next jam we will definitely put a lot more effort into learning how to create them!

The bus reacts quite slow to throttle, anyways the game was fun. Nice graphics (for 72 hours) and I liked that you can destruct basically everything. I guess it was lacking some physics since the ride was kinda slippery and the bus should have flipped about 5000 times but that would not be fun I guess. Nice game

Very slippery, but very fun. I totally ignored the objective of the game and made my own objective: destroy all the houses. I love that you can destroy everything in the game, also giving the camera control to player is such a nice touch; it all made me feel like I have all the power in the game. Very solid entry, and Im very impressed with you guys being in high school and producing a game with this much quality. Great great job! When I was 17, I was studying Pascal T_T. I believe you guys will have bright future in game industry. Keep it up!

The game was super fun despite the okay-ish controls. I enjoyed destroying the buildings more than anything. Controlling the bus felt like controlling a huge monster truck and controls felt a little delayed. The person who made the graphics done an amaxing job!!!

@major-sauce The bus has a built in anti roll mechanism so it basically cant flip. I decided to include it because flipping the bus was incredible easy and it interrupts the game play in a way that's hard to recover from unless I included a "Flip back over" button which I've seen in some games. There's a lot of work to be done on the bus controls in general, I believe the main source of the problem is the adjusting the wheel colliders. If you have ever used Unity's wheels colliders then you know what I'm talking about.

I noticed a bug in my final report where it said "Kids missing: 5" instead of "Kids killed due to your reckless driving: 5" :smirk:

But seriously this game is a lot of fun. I liked the music and the graphics. The bus feels difficult enough to drive without being too floaty. I think it could use some sound effects, like crashes or children laughing to give more feedback to your actions.

I really enjoyed that game ^^

I managed to drive carefully, up until I had one patch of kids left that I couldn't find. Panic mode was then engaged, and it was all about destroying houses to find that giant X X)
I guess not making these locations too visible is part of what makes the game fun.

I don't think the minimap was really useful though, as I couldn't zoom out that much, but it was still a nice touch, seeing buildings getting destroyed from your perspective and from above.

Good job !

Played and rated v1.0.1.

Kind of weird controls that are split across keyboard and mouse, but it was fun driving through all those houses. I actually got stuck after dropping off some kids, I think the bus got wedged into some of the collision for the school building (the one building that I couldn't take down with my bus!). I guess that serves me right for going full speed at the school building...

This was good, I had some issues with controlling the bus, I suspect the controls were difficult for a reason, but there were a few times where the bus spun out for no apparent reason. I also struggled to figure out when I had gotten all the kids, or not. Running over kids didn't seem to update the counter, which meant it was an automatic fail (Total legit if it is)? I'm not sure, I think more information would be helpful.

Pretty decent overall, I am surprised at the amount of models you guys churned out in the length of the jam, great job.

The thing that bothered me with this game were the controls for the bus. The bus when in motion gains so much motion that I have to start slamming on the breaks when I'm halfway away from the bus stop.

But besides that, this game was great. Unlike some of the other games I've played on here I was actually eager to continue onto the next level. The only reason I stopped playing was that the game broke where I had a full-sized bus but there was only a single student on the map that I couldn't find. I ended up with a score of 19700.

I had a lot of fun with this! Great art and fun music! I also approve of the mini map :) Great job!
