Claude Van Clamme Presents: Agent Poing P.N.Guin's Terrible Penguin Panic by The Enigma

[raw]
made by The Enigma for LD 42 (JAM)

WANS submission for Ludumdare-42's 72 hour game jam.

The story so far:

The year is 2052 and Special Agent Poing P.N.Guin has been sent into the Headquarters of Club Penguin in an effort to bring back the platform and get to the bottom of whether it was a front for evil deeds, despite the heavy nostalgia trip of his childhood he was successful infiltrating the Headquarters and was enjoying himself in the Club Penguin coffee shop when a Puffle bit his toe. This startled Agent Poing P.N.Guin and he yelled out a torrent of abuse towards the culprit Puffle.

The resulting profanity sent the "Ultimate Safe Chat" sentinels into meltdown, immediately charging towards Agent Poing P.N.Guin in unprecedented fashion. Due to his years of training in the Penguin Secret Service, Agent Poing P.N.Guin survived the initial onslaught and made his way out onto the Antarctic ice fields, lost and with no sign of his evac helicopter Agent Poing P.N.Guin began his ascent up one of the ice cliffs nearby in hope of getting signal to his satellite phone. Halfway up the mountain, the Moderators of Club Penguin deployed their ultimate weapon, after years of global warming being blamed on cars and factories the real culprit was finally revealed...

Club Penguin had been running its generators on the emotions of its tween players which, when coalesced into physical form, just became a seething mass of angry hatred and burgeoning sexual frustration, in other words... Lava. Agent Poing P N Guin, still tasked with infiltrating this deadly lair, now has to contend with escaping a rush of fiery, burny, gross emotions that threaten to destroy his emotional stability and turn him into... An emo. Your mission is to complete Agent Poing's primary mission - getting him to the top of the ice mountain - whilst ensuring he doesn't succumb to the emotional lava chasing him along the way.

This is a pretty pleasant and fun game! I enjoyed my time with it. I'm not sure how long it goes on for, I think the level needs more distinction in between segments. I didn't realize I had a double jump until I had to leap from the elevator (thank goodness). My longest run ended like this...

This game is so much more fun than it should be, and for that alone I am impressed. I love that you've written a whole extra story behind it. I definitely felt punished whenever I pressed at the wrong time, which is good. I would have loved to see more expressive animations, as I think it would add a lot of charm to the game.

Nice game! Discovering the different ice patterns was pretty fun, although I think most of them are way too hard to climb haha ^^' I often got caught in a loop like this:

If you're in this kind of loop, you have no way to survive, you're forced to jump if you don't want to fall, and you can't go on the platform. But I'm not sure how you could have managed to avoid this problem :o

Cool idea to not have full control, makes it much more challenging!

For as simple as this was I really liked it! Like a cross between getting over it and Super Mario Run. Very challenging but felt doable the whole way. I will second that this game was far more fun than I was expecting.
Tutorial screen text is hard to read if you aren't fullscreen.

This was a really fun game and I really enjoyed playing it! It felt very fair and very challenging at the same time, which is a very hard balance to hit, so very good job on hitting it!

This game is in an other dimension, I love how it criticize the world, the medias and the conspirationists at the same time ! To deep for me, but the really simple gameplay is balancing with this very deep subject, I love this kind of entry. I wish there was a category "Description", I feel bad to dont rate this incredible text.
Love you guys, nice entry

Great backstory! Fun game, as the person above - got stuck a few times. Highscore of 3200 @78m. If that is your custom made splash screen logo, please don't take it away so quick next time, had to reload and capture to be able to check it out. Here it is for those who won't bother to:

It felt kind of slow-paced and I really wish I could control the character's movement more than just when they just.
