Bubba Illegal Construction INC by dunderroffe

LORE

The world has turned in to a bureaucratic nightmare. It now is impossible to get a building permit in the central cities and the prices of building material is outrageous!

To get around this you have decided to build anyway. As long as you do not get caught by the many inspectors whom patrol the city you will be OK. Furthermore, instead of purchasing building material, lets just steal it from your neighbors.

GOAL

The goal of the game is to gain as many points as possible. This is achieved by stacking as many building parts as possible on the highlighted area. Walk, using WASD or the arrow keys, toward a building floor and press E once it is highlighted to pick it up. To put the floor back on the ground, simply press E again.

About

We chose to make a game on the theme Stealth + Construction SIM. It was made using Gimp, Blender, Audacity and Godot Engine.

Nice idea and congrats on managing to stay away from Unity :P

There were some things that could have gone better like the placement of floors. I felt like when I pressed "E" to drop a floor on the ground I had no idea where the floor was going to land. Movement was OK but could have worked better if the player jumped a bit higher.

Cool idea! I quite liked the stealth aspect, hearing the inspectors and then spinning around like mad trying to see where they are. Agree with @Mordokay that more accurate building placement would've helped. Could definitely use some polish and expanding but that's normal for a jam. Well done!

The game made me laugh a few times with the physics, but I felt like I should have been able to jump on top of the single story buildings. It became very awkward trying to build my own buildings. The audio was nice, but the stealth aspects never seemed to be a concern as no one did anything as I stole/built things. Unfortunately I got pushed under the ground twice while playing which made me give up, see the screenshot below

I really like the sound effects! I thought that it was quite difficult to understand where the building piece will be placed, but once I started to figure that out, it was pretty cool. Also, I'm not sure if this is the case, but it seems that the inspectors are simply proximity based, which meant they are very easy to avoid.

Really good mood for the game (the FX are very fun). The camera didn't work super well for me, maybe it would have worked better if you raised it a bit higher so you could see better your building and the environments. I also skipped a lot of the stealth as I didn't feel much pressure to go and fetch parts from farther buildings, as I just stole the closer ones or the ones far from the enemies to get higher scores.

hah awesome... Between your simple design and brilliant sound effects you've built a very charming little world :] NOT TO MENTION, a totally functional game! Well done :]

Played on Linux.

The movement speed is very fast, too fast in fact. The character sliding around in pseudo T-pose is funny, but a running animation would have been more pleasant. Mashing into buildings is funny as well, yet counter productive.

Avoiding the inspectors isn’t much of a challenge, they rarely stumble upon the illicit operation due to the size of the city. Building a tower is needlessly finicky. Dropping a floor is imprecise because there is no indicator on where the floor is going to appear in. Once down, floors don’ like to stay put. They should be heavier to combat this.

The graphics are simple, as said animations would be a big improvement. Audio is much worse, very annoying sound effects all around.

The idea is solid. Physics based tower building could work, maybe in combination of something else than stealth. Workmanship is not up to par.
