####### Microms's World

Microms's World is my entry for the LudumDare38 jam. The theme was "Small World".

This is my first entry in a jam without any team besides me. I firstly intended to enter the compo but I missed the deadline by a few hours... :'( I had a great fun working on all the pixel art animations ;)

In Microms's World, you have to help the Microms prosper and win as much point as possible.

The Microms need food to survive, fortunately, you can get some by targeting the Flying Creatures floating above their village.

The more Microms you have, the more points you'll earn, but the more food you'll need !

Have fun !

---------- Controls -----------

Drag'n'drop Microms on the catapult and target the Flying Creatures

Shoot the seed bearers creatures to get new Microms

I had no time to do a leaderboard, so feel free to post your final score in the comments :)

Your graphics are excellent! I got up to 2325 points, lasted 10 years. Very hard to balance sending them off as weapons, vs needing them around to survive. I could drop multiple into the catapult at once, but only one would launch, the rest dropped back to the ground. The dropping plants collided with each other, where one moved another growing plant out of the way, felt odd to have a plant already in the ground shift position. I got to a point in one game where I didn't have any Microms left on the ground, but my food kept going down. Do the plants eat food too? The aiming of the catapult was very well done, simple and effective. Good game!

Beautiful graphics, music, and overall mood! I felt sorry for the cute white guys having to be sacrificed for food!

I lasted 12 years and got 2273 points.

Sometimes I could take down 2 monsters with 1 guy. It seems like it is a bug, because I couldn't do it again, but it would be a nice feature for the game to have: maybe give me a multiplier in food when I do it, because it's hard to do.

Overall it's a nice game. Good job!

A lovely game, my favorite so far ! It's a cool and fun idea, with nice visuals and music. It might not be really well-balanced, I feel the game a bit too difficult, and the way to gather food is not really explicit (yeah I jumped right into the game without reading the description :p ) . But I love this game, good job !

Thank you all for your feedbacks !

@mgoadric the plant don't eat food, but when you reach a certain year, you lose more food naturally. I added that at the last minute because the balancing was really inexistant and the difficulty was always the same.

@Nimbus It's indeed a bug ;) That could be a feature to explore actually! I also have to add some feedback when you take down a monster to show that you gain food :)

@Toulou Thank you very much! The balancing is not so well indeed, the game is really becoming too difficult around year 10, I didn't take the time to test "long" runs during the jam x)

Nice looking game. It's simple but challenging and has great overall polish.
I think I'll have the music stuck in my head for some hours, though. :joy:

It's fun to just grab one of those beings and shoot it up at some other thing with that powerful shotgun sound.
Only the shooting was a little bit off, always a little too low (maybe that is the wanted behavior, the crosshair may be a little misleading then as it makes it seem like it is going to be a straight shot) and sometimes when shooting to the right, the microm hit the floor on the way up, that may be a bug.

Hitting multiple enemies with one shot would be fun too and why not let the little guys come back down if I shoot straight up? That way I could conserve "ammo" by carefully waiting for the right time to shoot...

Artwork looked pretty good and the music fit the game nicely

This is a really cool game. Very interesting mechanic. It only took one game over to figure it out. One thing to note is that it didn't fit very well in my browser and I couldn't see the whole game at once. Aside from that technical gripe, this was a good entry. The art and music worked well together as well. Very cute. Nice work!

I also really liked the visuals, the microms themselves and the way they spawn from the plants is adorable.
Having the seeds(?) drop from the enemies and sprouting right in that place was really cool too.
That being said some more polish on the gameplay(cant shoot to the far right) and especially the balancing(sometimes no enemies with food would spawn) would have really made it great.
Got 2204 points.

Really charming game. The music helps sell the laid back feel of this. I'd suggest adding some cute noises for the white thingys to give them some character. Also, maybe im just missing something but, it wasnt really clear how or why food was being depleated and it made me feel kind of anxious that i was meant to be doing something to add to it.

Congratulations on finishing the game on your own :) It's a cute little game.

The music is so relaxed and the Microms seem so chill it made me totally oblivious how dire their situation is. Survival is on the line, it's life or death. For Christs sake they are launching THEMSELVES into orbit just to allow there next of kin to survive a little longer.

I had a hard time keeping them alive, there were just to few load bearing sky octopuses around.

Had fun smashing the floating things. Wasn't too sure of what it was I was trying to achieve until after I lost. The game feels like it was missing things to manage other than the catapult. The music and sound effects were cute and added to the world, and the graphics were nice. Solid effort for something made in a weekend.

Very nice mood and wonderful music!

I jumped right into the game without reading game's description, and was puzzled over how to play. It took me quite some time to understand the catapult mechanic.

I was also quite hard to understand how the seeds work too, at first it feel like sometimes a tree grow from the seed, sometimes none does. Now I think I understand that the trees must have proper spacing, but I can't be sure.

Overall, I enjoyed the game and it was fun, but I think the feedback to player must be stronger to signify important game rules.
