Signal Lost by ShaunJS

[raw]
made by ShaunJS for LD 39 (JAM)

A game about being stranded, wounded, unable to physically move but able to control a handful of remote drones.

You can see through the eyes of your drones via the monitor of a drone control unit, but should you lose signal due to low battery, going out of range or crashing, the drone will be lost forever.

Collect the parts of your ship that have scattered across the desert (not pikmin, not pikmin, not my other LD game with this same theme either, honest.) in order to stand any chance of escaping this world.

You found a single page of instructions with the drone kit, best of luck!

Dev notes: First bizarro adventure into 3d cameras with GameMaker Studio 2. Very exciting stuff. Had no idea what I was doing for the most part and panicked wildly if anything ever went wrong. Shout outs to everyone who followed along on my stream and my patreon supporters.

I like the idea of a drone game in 2D (because I am only programming in 2D). There is one bug: the controls are inverted.

"Inverted" controls are working as intended =)

Game was really fun and very hard. I enjoyed it a lot. Also, I thought the controls were inverted, but realized they were designed with convenience for the screen, which you use 90% of the time. The art and mood were wonderful and this was all around a great game.

Cool idea and well implemented. The game looks and sounds very nice. Only thing is it got a bit boring after the x-th thing you found and brought back.

Great idea with the overall setting of a space crash, the drones mechanism and the camera to view. Only thing I missed was some kind of minimap which would have helped a bit more discovering the parts.
Regarding the audio: background desert wind and sound effects were also spot on.
Amazing what you achieved in so little time Shaun, very well done!
And now I need to have a look at the source code ;-)

Never mind the minimap...I just found the height controls...reading helps...

Amazing game as usual Shawn. The level of polish and amazing mechanics are unreal for the given amount of time. Really well done!

Really innovative idea and great execution, it is satisfying to control drone and see it flying in the horizon. Graphics are atmospheric and are consistent, the 'drone screen' has some cool visual effects (also option to move around your 'main view' with mouse is a nice touch, totally worth the time... really). It is a challenge to complete this game but there is a lot potential for replayability. Oh and cool sound effects (electric toothbrush did the work :D). In overall it is a pretty cool game.

BTW: it was entertaining to watch stream

I really like this game, and I find it cool how it's 2D yet has a few 3D like things. There a lot of details, and the game is pretty well polished. It is a bit difficult though. And the controls listed are a bit confusing(you say shift goes up, even though it goes down, and vice versa for control).

Also, I think you should remove the "humor" and "mood" categories from your game.

Super entertaining, and a very unique game. I found it a bit difficult to find my way back to the ship after going long distances but I guess thats just my terrible surrounding awareness haha :P Excellent job, the audio is super atmospheric too!

Interesting little game. Cool to see some GMS 3D stuff. I forgot it could do any of that. I found the up/down controls got stuck frequently which made me crash or go too high.

I have been doing a let's play series on YouTube featuring my favourite LD #39 games and Signal Lost was in part 9. Check it out here if you'd like!
