Throwing Shade by Casey Macneil

[raw]
made by Casey Macneil for LD 43 (JAM)

Hello! Thanks for playing our dinky little game, this was my first time making anything with Monogame, and our first Ludum Dare on top of that! It is very buggy but definitely playable I think, enjoy!

Really tough. Great art and music! I didn't really see where the theme fit in, but overall great game.

Beautiful game, graphics, music, mainly mechanics, although sometimes I could cross the wall hahaha, but very good, congratulations

I really enjoyed playing. It seems that there are some problems with physics and platformer motor. And maybe you can add 1 or 2 more levels. But other than that, the art and music were awesome!

Short, and sweet. Love the graphics and music. They worked real well together!
As you mentioned, a little glitchy here and there, but overall it worked out great. Nicely done!

This was a fun challenge! A bit glitchy as you mentioned, but definitely playable. I love the art and music! The only thing I'd say is it didn't seem to tie into the sacrifice theme too much. But overall, great job and congrats!

Pretty short but it looks like you have most of the core mechanics you were looking for, this could make a really neat puzzle game

I think it's more fun to say that it's Jammy instead of Glitchy. :)

This is a cool concept. Straightforward platforming controls but with hazards that only effect the sheep that you're trying to carry. Initially I thought I had to leave the sheep on the button to open the first door so I could carry the key to the second. There's obvious potential for using the sheep as a tool to open the way to the end and then have another challenge with carrying the sheep after solving those problems.

There's also the potential of the *sheep* being immune to some dangers that your character is not--maybe something that the sheep can be thrown through but you cannot walk through without dying.

I was disappointed that there wasn't more than one level which is a good sign. The bugs were tolerable except for the one in the narrow cave after opening the first door. I managed to jump through that three times and on my third time it took me at least 20 tries because my character kept getting stuck on the floor part.

The art style was great. The sheep was cute. Nice play on the theme of a sacrificial lamb. Maybe some hints from the title that the sheep can become a black sheep through some power up and have a different twist on the rules? I like it.

A little glitchy in places but I thought it was very well put together. I really loved how every animation was playing in sync with the music!

Pretty fun, short, and buggy as all hell. Still a solid entry though

Apparently this didn't happen for everyone, but for me I couldn't progress past the second stage because there was a gap the character wasn't allowed to run through at the bottom. Weirdly, it seemed the character could run through other gaps that same size.

Nice visuals and music, though. Not sure what the story is supposed to be or how the theme fit in. Other than that bug, good job overall!

some collider issues, but didn't prevent from enjoying the game. Great work

Nice graphics! More distance between the tiles would improve the gameplay, because otherwise it feels like they are too close for you to jump properly. The music is really fun, a nice experience overall!

Pretty fun, but yes kinda glitchy, I get it though (LD and all that, you can't expect perfection with such a time limit), but the bugs are for the most part manageable. Good job m8

Fun idea! Good stuff. I think it would have been nice to have explored the mechanics of throwing and managing items a bit more, but this was a good start! Keep it up :)

Nice job! Loved the art, the game is really pretty. The sound contributes with the atmosphere.
The only downside for me was that the objects could often went through the walls.

Could be a great game if the physics were fixed. Having a lot of 'rubber banding' trying to jump into that hole behind the door was painful.
But good sounds, music, graphics, and a neat little twist on the theme. Many out there believe the sheep must be sacrificed, but there was I, actively proving that the sheep did in fact not need to be sacrificed.

I want more!!!

Also very nice graphics and little tune. Apologies to the 5-6 incarnation of sheep that died in my playthrough before I figured out the rules :)

The art and music are very well done. I’m really confused as to what exactly is happening my key kept despawning. Overall good job.

First of all that is a heckin' cute sheep and I love him. Second, the game was really fun! The graphics and sound are really nice and the gameplay was great. I did run into a few issues with movement, like trying to get through the gap to reach the door. For a while I was convinced I couldn't fit, and at one point it actually teleported me up to the middle of the level. Aside from that, though, everything was good! Nice work :)

Really enjoyed the art and sound design. Just a little buggy, but with some more polish this could be great. Make that tunnel gap bigger!

Yeah, collision is pretty buggy but I kept playing till the end because the art and music was charming.

Love the graphics! The buggy platforming was tolerable; actually the jumping and movement felt pretty good if the collision was just buttoned up a bit. Once I realized I could walk past the enemies, it was just the sheep who couldn't, it became way easier. Previously I thought it was waaay to hard for me, but I completed it pretty quickly after that. Anyway nice feel to the game, and lots of good building blocks for next time, this was a great first entry!

Very fun, but a bit shorter than I would have liked! I think the graphics are great, especially the little effect where the grey borders of sprites disappear when overlapping. There were a couple bugs, one where I would glitch back when trying to go through a gap. The other one was a case where I could glitch through an entire floor. Nicely done!

Really loved the art here, really cute, and I have a crush in well defined pixel art games.

Just a constructive tip: From a game design perspective, I think introducing a level with a 'hidden entrance' is not a very good approach (or maybe I got it wrong? haha)
Other than that (and some little tiny collision bugs  ) I loved the throwing mechanic =]
Nice game!
