Spatris by thebmxeur

[raw]
made by thebmxeur for LD 42 (COMPO)

Tetris in space.

Pick up a tetromino, place it on the board. Making one (or several) lines horizontally or vertically will clear them from the board. Each time something is cleared from the board, the speed will increase slightly. You better try to clear several lines together because it only counts for one clear, so the speed will only be increased once. Don't forget you can make lines VERTICALLY.

If you don't put the tetromino at an empty spot on the board or don't pick a tetromino you'll lose 1 HP.

Try to stay up as long as you can! Share your time in the comments !

= Controls =

Arrows to move.

A, Q to rotate a tetromino counter clockwise.

D, F, SPACE to rotate a tetromino clockwise.

Alt + F4 to quit.

Very interesting idea (and lovelu music <333) but i think this game would be better for last LD theme (combine 2 incompatible genres)

Good and smooth but a bit too easy, and it lacks a quit button (I had to Alt+F4 to quit)

Awesome! The music is lovely but gets a little same-y and the delay between loops is weird. The rest of the game is really cool though.

Best time: 199 (I'm bad at tetris)

I think it's kind of interesting way to reconstruct tetris!

An interesting take of an old classic. Works surprisingly well!

The ambiance and music left me feeling really uneasy.

Interesting idea! The only complaint I have is that it made me hella dizzy ;)

Nice concept, perhaps a bit too slow. I think you could make it go faster if you allowed press & hold for movement. At first I tried to dodge the pieces, but after nothing happened I had a great "oooh" moment :)

Good job, I liked the simplistic visuals and calm background music.

The game was pretty fun even though I don't really play tetris the graphics were nice and simplistic!

Interesting idea, it really fits the theme well. The music is nice and reminds me of Portal.

very nice music, wish it was a bit longer though! makes the whole thing very therapeutic in a way. the controls/feel of picking up blocks and placing them was nice, the idea is very interesting as well, good work!

Really like the graphics, remind me "starfox" on snes. the concept of tetris like is interessting but i guess a lil speeder with maybe a punchy soundtrack could increase the dynamics (maybe it's not what you're looking for). By the way nice job !

Nice original concept, lacks of an introduction, it immediately gets in the game. Anyway, the gameplay is really calm and let's you just enough time to planify your moves, that's great !

@xcvzxc @icefox @jsmcag @hegemege @shujal @suchista @shp @randdir It was my first time ever recording any music, and I can't really play the guitar (or any instruments). So I'm glad people like it.

@firefly4 @hegemege @randdir The game speeds up each time one (or more) line is completed. It starts slow to let you get a hang of the controls and mechanics. After 10 lines, the speed is 1.5 times the start speed (starts at 100 m/s and increase by 5 for each line cleared) and it gets interesting. I probably should have displayed that information somewhere in the game. Since the goal is to last long, you need to try to complete several lines with one tetromino because it will only increase the speed once. If you give it another go, try to complete several lines and see if it's still too slow :)

An autorepeat feature would be nice for fast moves. The speed curve may be too slow. It starts to be challenging around 300 secs.
But it's an interesting way to visualize a tetromino selection and drop.
I am not fan of the music.

A cool idea, good execution. could maybe use a mid game way to see your points. Might also want to check out SUPERHYPERCUBE by Polytron, its a commercial vr game with a similar idea.

Very interesting idea, and implemented very well! Even without in-game instructions, after a few tries I was able to understand what was going on (a tutorial or a simple instructions menu would be a nice addition, though). Maybe a more "rhythmic" bgm would be more apt to the gameplay and visual style of the game, in my opinion.

I think you got a really cool idea!

I do like the song but it can get a bit repetitive and hearing that it's your first time recording, I think you did a pretty good job! The only thing you need to do is just learn how to mix the sounds well and you got a pretty good track!

I liked how you could get a line cleared both horizontally and vertically, that was a nice touch. Though like @riccardo-sioni said, a tutorial or even an instructions menu would be good. In fact, I think you really need a menu here in general as starting the game and it's like outta the frying pan, into the fire. A Pause button would be good as well. While I do appreciate you putting me right where into the action, some build up would be nice. Like slow down there, buy me dinner first :joy:

Overall, really cool!

loved the concept! it gets stressful much quicker than the normal tetris but that's better.
