Snake Reduction by ReiMari
It's snake, except the play area keeps getting smaller.
I'd like to have made something more original and better, but I stuck to the theme too hard and couldn't come up with anything feasible so I had to slap this together in around 8 and a half hours. That said, I did set myself the goal of finally submitting something here (no matter how bad) and at least I completed that (I've made attempts previous LD's, but this is my first submission!).
Next LD I probably won't stick to the theme as much if it prevents me from making something nicer!
One thing about the code, I created one of the classes (the input manager) outside of Ludum Dare. The rules say starting with existing base code is ok, but the submission checklist states the code must be written during the compo. I'm going to assume the rules are what counts.

Completely agree with you! Sometimes the theme seems like the biggest constraint. Good thing that it's optional
I hope (or, make sure) I'll have something more interesting next LD :)
The snake graphic was cute and kept my interest in a snake game longer than I would have expected. The controls felt a little slow if not pressed exactly right.
Over all it was a nice little snake clone.
(there is a strategy that consists of walking along the walls to prevent them from advancing, but it's for superplayers...)
I managed 54 food as my best run, not sure how that stacks up.
Snake already fits the theme, more or less. You constantly run into the problem where your body is eating up the space where your head could go. Make the walls close in too, and you have yourself something compelling.
If you're struggling with the theme then check out a streamer they usually come up with ideas together with the viewers when the jam starts and you can take one of those
I do realize what I ended up with probably isn't the most original thing (which is why I wasn't happy with the result). But I did come up with an extra twist on this game a couple of hours ago which I will try to build into a more complete game outside of Ludum Dare!
