- The idea of the playing field being randomly generated over time is clever and interesting.
- I really liked the visual polish, like the screenshake and the cows spurting blood when they die.
- Refrigerators and cows falling from the sky is super funny.
A few things that could be improved:
- There doesn't seem to be a purpose or goal to the game. I made it to the top of the screen, but nothing happened and the game
kept running, which was disappointing because all I can do now is wait to drown. At the very least, I would have liked a "You won!" popup.
- The houses fall down way too slowly. You could probably speed everything up 5x, and it would be a lot more exciting and more of a challenge.
- I didn't hear any sound effects. Sound effects can make a game feel much more polished because audio feedback is very important, and they're not that hard to make, so for future jams I would definitely suggest adding them in.
I think this could be a really fun and exciting game if you had a greater variety of houses and increased the pace; right now it feels very slow, but I can imagine some hectic platformer where you have to plan ahead based on what's falling from the sky. Overall, nice job! Again, I really liked the visuals.
If you keep on working on this, I think it will be a great game. Good Job
The water level was too slow to rise, the falling blocks took too long to fall, and overall the game felt slow and unsatisfying. Not having any kind of win condition, without any kind of infinite gameplay (for example, the camera kept rising higher as you climbed higher) doesn't help either.
The lack of any kind of sound also makes the game feel very empty - even just adding the sound of strong wind in the background, cows mooing as they fall down and loud thumps as the blocks land would help immensely in this department. Personally, I used Bfxr for my game, it's quick and easy to use.
I also found the collisions to be very buggy, and I would often get stuck on walls and ceilings. Be sure to read up or find tutorials on YouTube about collisions for a platforming game, it would have helped you immensely in this game, and will help immensely in future compos.
On a lighter note, falling cows always makes the game funnier!
Keep up the good work, and you'll see your games improve as well! Good luck!
The concept is neat and could easily be expanded with more block types and some goal or score. It could then be a cool mobile game.
And as others said, the controls and the physic were not so good and it was a bit boring without sounds, but It can easily be fixed with more time.
I got stuck :/ It's very difficult to jump, too fast here on Chromium.
Keep working in the idea. I think it has potential...
Thanks!
Success!
