Story

Your spaceship has crashed on a small world. Collect resources to rebuild your starship to leave the planet.

Note: The game is incomplete. I wanted to add much more.

Controls

  • Use left mouse button to execute actions
  • Use right mouse button to navigate
  • Use mouse wheel to zoom
  • Left click on a free tile to build a building; bottem right of the tile needs to be a free space or a road; some buildings are only allowed on special terrain
  • Left click on a tile with a road sign to start building a road

Missing features:

  • Story: Game should have started with the spaceship intact, and someone causing a crash. After repairing the spaceship, the same thing happens but they end up on a smaller world. The game would end when the slimes arrive at a really small world, where you can't really build anything.
  • Resource management - buildings cost resource, buildings produce resources and slimes move them from one crossroad to the next
  • Breeding - 3 slimes would breed and produce offspring, color would change depending on parents colors with some mutations
  • Roads should take the color of the slime, if it's used often

Known bugs

  • Slimes can move from one road/building to another road, even if they aren't directly connected
  • 2 crossroads can be connected using multiple roads, slimes will only occupy the shortest road
  • building something next to a road will add a road sign, but the separated roads don't get recognized by the slimes

I like the puzzle/planning element in road building. Cool concept IMO. Will you be adding missing features in future releases?

Maybe sometime later @shodanon, but not in the near future.

I liked the idea of the game very much, did remind me of the old game The Settlers II. Right now, building stuff and the slimes going to the roads are the only things working, right? Or did I oversee something? Anyways until now it looks nice, and I think it could become a fun game.

This could become a really cool casual funny strategy game. All the building blocks are already there. The slimes are cute, well animated and I really like the hexagonal tiling and building roads with it. Keep it up!

It's like Settlers crossed with Pikmin. Interesting. The Navigation and Connection pathfinding seemed solid.

I'm not much of a resource game person, but this seems like a great start! The mechanics are solid. If you decide to continue this game, a little bit of tutorial mode stuff in the beginning would help a lot. PS: I love hexagon tiles and slimes!

Seems like a great game idea with a lot of potential. The game would have benefited greatly from a tutorial as I had no idea what i was doing and what i was supposed to do when I first started playing. Some audio would have been nice as well.

It looks like you're onto something cool here. It was kinda fun building a bunch of houses are watching the slimes hop around, but after a couple minutes of house-building the game froze. The tooltips prevented me from feeling completely lost, but I still felt kinda lost. I'd suggest doing a post-compo version of this so we can see what it looks like with the intended features.

This seems like it would be a really good game if it had some of the bugs fixed, and there was a bit more feed back as to what is happening (UI when clicking on buildings maybe). I also found a bug where all the slimes just stopped moving and just jumped up and down on the spot.

Fun little game :) Reminds me very much of the old Settlers games (and that's far from a bad thing)
I can tell you were going somewhere very cool with this, and I know the pain of running out of time working on a concept you're getting into. I hope at some point you find the time to pick this back up again, as it could be really good!

Very Settlers II! Would be interested to see this develop into something playable.
However I'm not sure if I've been doing something wrong, but none of the buildings do anything, right? Slimes go to the middle of roads and hop around, then.. that is it?

The game also froze after building more than 10 buildings.

A good base to work on though!

Hey KayZ! I see your game could greatly benefit from a better "Onboarding" process, which is quite necessary for strategy games. You see, when you begin games like Civilization and Age of Empires, they go to great lenghts to slowly unfold through play the mechanics, dangers and supports of the game. That's why it's kind of risky to make a strategy game in a game jam.

That's why I became very confused at the beginning, with no real understanding of what I could and why exactly, even reading your description. Still, the whole puzzle-like quality of reaching a balance between road placing and building could lead to very interesting situations. By your description of missing features I believe it would be explored in a really cool way.

As @nomaki said, it is an excellent base to work indeed, but very overscoped for compo. I hope you learned a great deal, and don't give up on this project! Follow through and see where it will lead you!

Nice concept, this could be fun when developed. You already have core gameplay idea and some implementation of the mechanics. I would be interested in playing the post-dare version of this.

It kept bugging on me :(

I found out I can't have unconnected roads, but even then it froze up; even closed the page.

I think this could have been a really cool game. Strategy is a tough way to go for a jam, kudos to you for even attempting it. Are you considering finishing post compo?

Yeah didn't really have much of an idea of what was happening. Maybe a better description just on your game page would help :).

I am really impressed with the road building mechanic it works really well. Each world I make is quite unique. Its fun to watch the slimes do their thing. I built a big network of roads and buildings. Slime's are everywhere. I am going to leave it running for a while.

This was a cool base for a game. I really liked all the mechanics that were involved with building a town. Once you add resource constraints and goals I think you'll have something very interesting to play.

Nice start, would like to see it a little more finished. Graphics had a nice charm to them ^_^. Building roads felt pretty good!
