made by arron-fowler for LD 41 (JAM)

Not finished by a long way. Unfortunately work got in the way. There is a long list of things to do that did not get done. Some of which pretty important for the theme. The craft is currently assembled at random but it suposed to be done as code breaking. The only incompatibility on display here is the craft moves based on rowing boats. the thrusters at the side make it list, if they are out of balance you will constantly turn. The rudder works like that of a boat, you have to move it back to the centre to go straight.

I will continue to work on it as I think the idea warrants it.

the craft movement is the only thing I am really happy with but my god it took time to work it out. Please do have a good swing about with it and get some satisfying donuts on the go. Everything else sucks

Controls:

Left & Right Arrows to steer (Whilst Rudder is still attached)

1&2 toggles the Thrusters on and off (this can assist with steering a little after Rudder loss)

Weapons fire automatically

Fuel is gathered by destroying towers

Game over comes with a loss of fuel or your central body of the craft being hit

The craft is fragile and all parts are single hits

Enjoy!

Note / The level design did not happen. This is a quick test arena and was not what I had planned at all, I tweaked it to provide a challenge but it is not what was intended.

I can't read text on the first screen
Interesting concept. The game is not easy  ! Music is a little redondant for me and some sound effects are missing. But it's an interesting game !

I do think you've got the basis for a cool game here. Although auto-fire made it easier, I found myself wanting a fire button to time the mortar shots when I had that component. And it seems like 1 & 2 should control the left and right thrusters so I can steer after losing the rudder.

I enjoyed the game and I hope you continue to work on it. :)

@adsilcott Thanks for your comment. I will continue to make it, there is so much on my list still to do. I am intending to make all thrusters switchable and for the weapons to be fired manually - time got the better of me. I am continuing to work on it and will post something closer to my intention when it gets done. Most of the work is done, it's just the correct implementation to do. Should the craft have limited steering when the Rudder is off in addition to the thrusters? I am on the fence as to whether to give some minor control and would value your opinion. Ta

@arron-fowler Yeah I think limited steering is a good idea, that's what I was expecting to happen.

To me it is not clear what to do and how to achieve it. It just says I must not die but then there is no score at the end and what everything is is really unclear to me. It looks like some kind of tower defense with those things shooting at me.

The graphics look cool, as I said I cannot really tell what is what but it looks really cool nonetheless :-)

The music is upbeat and fits the strange setting.

@gonutz All fair points. I ran out of time to do so much of what was intended and just had to put it out as it is. Flawed it is. I am working on finishing what I had intended and will post a post comp version when I can. It will make sense by then.

No worries :-)

I know how it is with LD, you always run out of time. For my game I actually intended to make it a jump n run shooter instead of a static screen shooter (I think it still says 2D-SIDE-SCROLLING game which it is actually not) but I had not time either :-)

If you create an updated version, maybe you could @gonutz me. I would love to play the final result :-)

I think its better if you reduce the sensitivity of the control but for overall the game is cool i love the 3d models that you use its look like Tron legacy. Good job!!

Too bad it's unfinished because there's definitely a lot of potential. Most of the things you managed to do is quite well done and interesting, I like a lot the graphics, it give to the game a cool vibe and feel. The weird control schemes is hard to control but original, and can lead to a very interesting gameplay.
In fact the major flaw is the difficulty, I didn't managed to destroy a single tower. Being able to aim, or better weapon would be better.
Anyway, good job overall, enjoyed a lot your game !

I really liked the simple but kinda unique artstyle. The gameplay is quite good and feels much more finished than other games I've tested :)

Nice concept! Liked how individual parts can get knocked off.

Would be interested to see an updated version if you do one.

Very hard game I only lasted for less than a minute. The ruder kept getting hit. Would have been nice if they AI was worse at aiming at first. Missed sound effects and also the mixing of genres. Good effort!
