Battle of the Occultists by SlizzBen

[raw]
made by SlizzBen for LD 43 (COMPO)

You are occultist in occultist battle, you summon your minion from meat and bones for stats, and random items for effects to win your opponent in card-game duel.

There are little help in left bottom corner

Tip : You must create a minion with at least 1 hp

Gameplay - you must create a minion. To do this you need to put resource-card (like bone, meat or other items) in "sacrifice place". When you ready you press "Do sacrifice" and get you minion, which you can place at table. Now press "Next turn" and look what your opponnent do, and try to defeate him

Update #1 - AP were removed - Removed card "Coin" - Flag now give +1/+1 to nearby allies instead of all - First battle now faster - UI has little changes, now DrawPile and DropPile on the desk, so player can easyly understand what happend. - Fixed bug with parasite on the table at start of fight - After kill last(8th) enemy you will win the game instead of loose :) 3.png

Took me a little while to get that the bone wasn't something I could attack with haha. I found that I rarely started with attacking cards and by the time I got some the AI already had like 4 on the board. Nice graphics and solid idea.

It feels like a good starting point to develop on a biggest game! I really like your style of tutorials.

Woah, this is really cool! Smooth controls and I like the idea of building your own cards with stats. ^^ Great idea and well executed

I really enjoyed the basic mechanic and wanted to see what kind of cards you have created. But I feel like the game takes way too long to progress. Only having the basic cards in the beginning, feels a bit boring and the battles take too long.
Somethings I did not understand: when the enemy loses health and I couldn't buy +2hp and +2attack cards even after the second battle.

But I like the graphic style, it is simple, but coherent. The basic card game mechanics are well done and I enjoyed it. The constructing of cards is a really good idea. Good job!

@meursault better piece allowed after 3rd battle, i forgot change that text :( About slow gameplay you right, I fix it in next updates. Also i want to add "book of cards" where you can see all card.

Wow, the mechanics are awesome! The twist on the usual card game, that you need to craft your minions, is an awesome idea and incredibly fun.
One thing the game needed was a more overall introduction to the game. While you introduced AP and sacrificing minions, I had no clue how the card draw worked in this game. Took me a while to figure it out (I might be dumb...) but after that I had a blast!

Thanks for creating this, it was really fun. You should consider creating a more elaborate version of this. :)

Okay that was cool. The roguelike progression is awesome, had me playing for a while. The tutorial is very well done and the graphics are cool, congratulations for this! I think I found a bug? If you make a monster but click on "next turn" before clicking the "do sacrifice" button, your monster and the resources are gone forever, happened me a few times.
As I said, solid gameplay and concept!

Nice use of the AP for sacrifice card and pulling them to battle field. Second level is a little bit hard for less AP, good item can change the thing into a different way

@apace thanks for feedback. Yeah i make tutorial at the end of day 2, so it's not good, i think. About AP i don't sure that i'll save that mechanic in future. I wanted to delete it in first version, but now i have some idea how to rework it.

@shendev No, it's not bug, it's trouble with tutorial. At the end of your turn your cards in hand move to "Drop pile", so your cards from sacrifice moved to "drop pile", then you draw new card from "Draw pile", when draw pile is empty, all cards from Drop moved to draw. But when you use card for create some minion, he keep their until dying, after minion die the cards return to draw.

Really interresting game, great mechanics and I like the visual ; A little frustrating to start over when you lose, especially when it's because you forgot to use all your AP (I spent a few turns without noticing that it increased). Maybe you should add a "Restart level" button.

@rolly About "restart level" - it's base game mechanic, you collect your deck, fight with enemy, if you loose, you start from start and collect new deck, with new cards (if you "lucky" you can get same cards as in last try). There are ~15 cards with ability and 4 cards with stats.

Lovely game! I liked experimenting with different combinations, too bad that you had to start over from the beginning if you died :frowning2:

@sodaro i'll make game little bit faster at start, so you can build something interesting faster then now

Wow, I'm quite impressed by how good it works for something that looks so simple at a first glance!
It takes a little getting used to and the first mob is a little frustrating, but it gets better once you can buy more cards :)
Great job!

Ok this game is actually really great, I've been playing it for way to long lol. It's super fun, the most fun I had with a game from LD. But the are a lot of issues with balance and bugs: on my 3rd run I god mirror+parasite and holy shit that is an OP combo. I basically could in 2 turns flood the board with minions to the point when they could not fit on screen! It also caused some bugs, spiders remaind visually on screen on the next battle, but didn't seem to fight, just visually were there. And after I got mirror, I didn't had to think, I just always played all my cards on one minion and placed it on board, this way I finished the game. But after last enemy I got "YOU LOSE" screen, lol. I think it will not be easy to fix balance issues and make a gameplay more strategic. But maybe it's ok, I really enjoyed deck building aspect. I mean it was REALLY fun, I even forgot that it was a Ludum Dare game made in 48 hours!

@maksim-chugunov i saw this bug with parasite, i was thinking i have fixed it, but as i see i don't. Later i'll add more items and mirror be more rare. And i want to build balance which can make player happy and he get more "wow" emotions )

There seems to be bugs with parasite? It remains after finishing a fight. Otherwise good, would be better if you started directly with buying for the second fight, skipping the first fight completely

Nice game!
Took me a while to figure out you can sacrifice more than one card at once haha
I also don't understand why my cards disappear at the end of my turn, why wouldn't you just sacrifice every card in your hand every turn then?
I stopped playing when I lost because I didnt want to have to restart from the beginning :3
Pretty mechanically impressive system! And I really like the help menu [which has a typo on "they" by the way]

Really fun, very much like slay the spire (which I love). i think if some of the bugs were ironed out and there was some harder enemies it could be one of the best games here.

Nice game, card sac game was my first idea for this theme.
I love the art, simple but effective!
Some sound and music would have made this game really pop, good job otherwise.

Interesting mechanics! I was disappointed when I lost that I reset all the way to the beginning, didn't want to replay the first levels again :(. The first levels it seems the strategy was just sacrifice whatever you draw, repeat... got more interesting later though!

For some reason there were situations where I could not drag and drop, besides that which seemed like a bug unless it was on purpose to prevent different combinations or minions needed a certain attack or health to use something, the game played really well and I made it through all the enemies. I was expecting it to get super hard but once you knew you needed meat to create minions what to purchase became more obvious and therefore health seemed better than attack. I still had a lot of fun. I wanted a meat dragon or demon or some omnipowerful card the opponent plays and makes me go, well I don't know what to do. Poison seemed really strong.

Got another bug, on a replay everyone became invulnerable and no damage was dealt.
