NO MORE ROOM IN HELL by panurge

[raw]
made by panurge for LD 42 (JAM)

All done by me, was going to be a compo entry but I ran out of time so put it in the jam instead. It's a sort of mini bullet hell, nothing groundbreaking but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

WASD, LMB to shoot, SPACE to jump. Respawn at cursor.

F for Fullscreen.

Amazing! I really liked this game. The universe is scary and weird. The graphical aspect of the game is very successful. We think that with more time the game could be complete. Well done :)

Fun game I enjoyed the humour with the basic premise and dialogue. The music was simple but enjoyable, it's a shame it seems to randomly stop playing for me at times.

Amazing game, loved the most the character arms when running, and I agree with @greencircle about the music.
Also, nice job for doing it alone.

Very nice atmosphere and smooth gameplay. The dialogues provide humor and double neatly as hint system.

Does the music change when one defeats the first big blue guy? Well done.

Love some of the humor in this game, also, the theme was present in the settings (see the title) but also in the gameplay as the more enemies were killed, the less space there was to move ^^
Did you name it after the survival game of the same name or is it a coincidence ?

Really like the meta-humor in this one. It's very clean, well put together. If I had one suggestion, it would be some kind of affordance to let you know how many lives you had. It's pretty easy to figure out after the first time or two. I got as high as 187, just 13 away, but I had already played too long and I really can't take the time to finish, as much as I would have liked to see the end. I'm just not quite good enough to get there.

Really great game, really enjoyed it. Just a little tough for me.

This ended up being one of my favorite entries this jam, plays great! though i didn't end up needing to use the jump, managed to see the bonus picture, very cute!

Nice humor! Was hoping I could play through again and get a new picture.
The only complaint is that maybe screen shake is a bit too much at times and the green projectiles are not that visible when there is lots of green goo.

This is a good little one! As you said, nothing ground breaking but the controls were tight, the mechanics well polished, the enemy behaviour more than just running to you, the graphics good at what they were doing and the humor was very enjoyable. So all in all I really liked playing it!

I don't remember seeing this simple but yet effective mechanic of respawn in other game.

The game feels really satisfying, but could be even more by really simple tweaks like giving a reason to the player to not shoot. In fact you could follow point by point the vlambeer conference "art of screenshake".

Good entry 👍

I really like the respawn system, which seems fair as you can cautiously plan where would be the safest place to go. But at the same time, it feels really energetic, and as soon as you die, you want to get back into the action.

A rather simple game, but marvellously executed.

And hilarious.

Excellent game, I like that it has a lot of juice and that the space is really reduced once the enemies are eliminated, the music is also heard very well, the ghosts give a touch of relaxation by not leaving puddles of acid.
Many times I did not see the projectiles that the demons shot at me, maybe because they were the same color as the acid, I also felt a little unfair that the big ghost did not give me many points (I expected about 5 or something) I like how the game ends, but I feel that the puddles might disappear after some time or have some way of making them disappear in someway to free some space.
The work is excellent, it's amazing that it was just a person, well done!

Very condensed, very funny and most pleasing to play, lots of juicy feedback, great entry! I would just suggest a bit faster spawning, but on the other hand, the bat animation is super sweet! Overall very well done!

Pretty fun game, but restarting and having to go through the intro chats is extremely annoying.

Thanks all for the great feedback so far!

@halfmule Yep, the music kicks in every time you defeat one of the big ghosts. I thought it might get annoying otherwise. The downside is that a lot of people seemed to think it starts and stops randomly. With hindsight I should have made it more obvious.

@geraldfingburke The eyes on your bat show how many lives you have left but I should have made this a lot clearer.

@barrier @aguahervida Yes, I realised too late that the enemy projectiles are the exact same colour as the goo. D'oh!

@nisco Solid advice about giving the player a reason not to shoot. If I worked on this more, my first move would be to either give some kind of 'ammo' counter or have certain enemies that you need to avoid shooting, I think.

@allenial Sorry about that, I never intended for players to have to read that more than once. I'll check but it should be set up so that losing a round takes you to a different, much shorter chat before throwing you back in.

Very solid game, love the graphics and humor. Only problems were no invulnerability when respawning. As well download is not windows but web based. Outside of that very very nice :)

fun little game that reminded me a bit of Smash TV. The respawn mechanic is a great idea; I don't think I've ever seen one like that before. Only criticism is that I found the blue ghosts a bit hard to see; but might be my screen.

Risk and profit are very well;

Character design is good;

Maybe the function of the bullet is better related to the distance.

Really liked the humorous and candid dialog. The good feedback on the shooting made the retries to get to 200 a lot of fun. And oh baby was that reward for 200 burnt souls worth it! Oddly kind of looked like a relative of mine...
